Hello my fellow HOG Members! I just can’t believe its October already! There’s a definite change in the weather out there, and I hope everyone is getting out and riding as much as you can!

I would like to extend a very special “Thank you” to Logan Roberts in particular, but also everyone else that partici-pated in the Ride for Ray on Sunday, September 25th. If you haven’t seen the video of Ray’s reactions on Facebook yet, I’d really encourage you to go view it! The man was genuinely overwhelmed with gratitude for making his wish come true. Logan was approached about doing this ride, and with the help of several other HOG members, was able to pull off a ride that far exceeded all expectations, and quite simply, brought Ray to tears. While I was unable to be there myself, I honestly believe this kind of community service is one of the greatest things that our HOG chapter can do! Very well done guys! Makes me incredibly proud to be a part of this chapter!

Don’t forget….the Arizona State HOG Rally is only a couple of weeks off. I’m really looking forward to riding with you guys and spending a few days of fun and relaxation! Hope to see a HUGE crowd on Wednesday for the ride to Sierra Vista!

Thanks again for all you do! We still have a full calendar of fun for everyone between now and year end, so let’s all get out there and RIDE!

Wreaths Across America is approaching and for those of you that are unaware, our HOG

Chapter is a sponsor for this. We are on the “3 for 2” program which means for every 2

wreaths that are purchased/donated the Prescott National Cemetery (AZPNCP) gets 3

wreaths. This year when you donate, you order the number of wreaths instead of a dollar

amount like in the past. Each wreath is $15.00 so be careful when you donate.

In order to donate, please go to: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org

Click on “Donate”

Click on “Sponsor with local group”

Go to “search by” and type in “AZ0068” or “Yavapai AZ HOG Chapter 1271”

Click on “Donate” then click on the number of wreaths you wish to donate. Remember you will be charged $15.00 for every wreath you donate. Then provide your credit card infor-mation to complete your donation.

Placement of wreaths and ceremony will probably be Dec. 10th and as more info. is available I will pass it on. If you have any questions please contact me.

Thank you

Hello fellow HOG Members!

As you know we are still looking for someone to take on the responsibility of being the Head Road Captain (if you are interested please let any of the officers know). Last month I sent out checklist for the road captains and during our general meeting discussed the importance of passing back the hand signals. Here is a copy of the hand signals we all should know and be using during our rides.

Get out and ride!

Ride safe!

Assistant Director’s Notes

Hello Fellow Chapter Members,

Well the Fall season is upon us. Hopefully you have had a chance to get out and enjoy the

changing of the colors. From Oak Creek to parts eastward, there are several places to ride to enjoy

the scenery. Just remember to dress for the cooler temps.

The AZ State H.O.G. rally is only two weeks away. This is the 25th anniversary for the AZ ral-

ly. It is also the last state rally. Harley and H.O.G. National will be switching to a regional rally

format starting in 2017. So if you haven’t signed up or are still considering on maybe going, you

might want to give it serious consideration. Our Chapter Director, Mike McKibben, has an AWE-

SOME ride route planned for those who wish to go as a group. We will be taking the back roads

avoiding PHX and enjoying the scenery.

This month’s meeting we will be taking nominations for chapter officers for the coming year.

Here is a chance for you to get a little more involved and possibly make a change. Even if you

don’t want to become a chapter officer we still need your inputs and insights to help the chapter to

continue to grow.

So lets get out there and RIDE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!

Sam Clark’s Great Dawg Enjoyment

One of the greatest enjoyments I get when I return to the US from the Philippines is my membership in the Yavapai Chapter of H.O.G. Attending and participating in our chapter's meetings and various events gives me much pleasure and I really miss being able to do so when I'm abroad. We are fortunate to have a chapter that consists of very welcoming, caring, and friendly members. Over the years I've been a member of this chapter, I've met and associated with some of the finest people I have ever known. This means a lot when you consider that over the last 40 years I've lived in 7 different countries and have associated with quite a large number of people with various cultures. One such chapter event took place on September 25th. This event was our monthly "Dawg Ride". Seven of us members, (Wayne, David, Steve Beck, Al, Morgan, Steve Osborn, and me) took off at 11:00 a.m. from H-D Mayer to an undisclosed "Dawg" location. Wayne, our leader, would not disclose the final destination or the route to get there. The entire ride was to be a surprise as we progressed on the ride. Needless to say sticking together was paramount. We started out on Hwy 69 headed toward Dewey-Humbolt. We turned right at the new stop light on 69 and cruised through Dewey and rode through some the neatest rolling hills around. There was a strong urge to break ranks and haul ass and fly over the tops of the hills and "bottom out" on the valleys. We ended this particular road at Hwy 169. We took a right on Hwy 169 and headed for Fwy 17. We took Fwy 17 and headed north to Red Rock Ranger Station. We took a break at Red Rock Ranger Sta-tion and took some group pictures. The view of the Sedona hills was awesome. While stopped, we all asked Wayne what was the final destination. He continued to refuse to say. He would only say "it wasn't far and he hoped we will like the "Dawgs."

Page 10: The Official publication of the - Yavapai HOG | Grand …yavapaihog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/October_2016...2016/10/09  · HOGwash The Official publication of the Yavapai AZ

10

He was absolutely correct on both accounts! We headed out of Red Rock Ranger Station into Oak Creek Village. The lights went on. This is where Wayne lives!! Our "Dawg" final location was Wayne's home. Wayne and Jeanie put on a perfect "Dawg Spread" from hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, cookies, drinks, etc. We all had our fill and while no formal ratings were done, it was a perfect "5" all around. After a couple of hours we all, except Wayne of course, headed for home. Both Steve’s took Fwy. 17, while Morgan, David and I took the Mingus/Jerome route. Al just slipped over to Cottonwood. An event like this is a prime example of the personal commitment, active membership, and camaraderie that this Chapter has and will hopefully have going forward. All of this is centered on shared common things like, owning and riding a Harley, belonging to a great Chapter, supported by a dedicated H-D dealer-Grand Canyon H-D. LIVE TO RIDE and RIDE TO LIVE, YEAH!!!!! Personal Regards, Sam Clark
