Dear Texas Hereford Staff and Members,
It is late, but none the less I want-ed to thank you for the beautiful vase and arrangement of flowers that was presented to me at the 2016 Annual Meeting as m y husband Gary, retired from serving as THA president.
The flowers were a huge surprise and greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your thought-fulness very much.
Sincerely,Kathy Buchholz

and Cowtown Invitational Sale. Al-though entries are not due until fall, bred heifers need to be put with bulls at this time. Invitational sale consign-ments should be identified and nomi-nated early, as only a limited number of cattle will be accepted. Note that the sale dates are Sunday, January 29, 2017. ★
Louise Klein. He grew up in Henrietta and graduated from Henrietta High School in 1968. He married Cheryl Beth Gray on June 18, 1971 in Bellev-ue, TX, and they were married for 41 years before Cheryl’s passing in 2013.
Mr. Klein worked as a welder, oil field pumper, farmer, and rancher. He was a member of the Texas Hereford Association. He served on the Henri-etta School Board from 1990 to 2004 and supported the Henrietta FFA and 4-H.
He loved Clay County and espe-cially the Clay County Pioneer Re-union. He served on the Nine Man Board from 1976 to 1978 and 1983 to 1985. He and his wife co-chaired the Clay County Pioneer Reunion Wel-come Committee and hosted the Pio-neer Luncheon for almost thirty years.
He also loved cars and spent his free time tinkering with antique cars and visiting swap meets. His grand-son, Jackson Wynn Johnson, was the light of his world.
Survivors include three daughters, Jana Beth Johnson and husband Josh-ua of Henrietta, TX, Jennifer Klein and husband George Burrows of Austin, TX, and Mary Sue Klein of Abilene, TX; one grandson, Jackson Wynn Johnson of Henrietta, TX; and one sis-ter, Gwen Fields of Costa Rica. ★
This issue covers our annual TJHA-TJPHA State Show and field day. It
was another huge success and each year just seems to just get bigger and better. This year we had nearly 200 exhibitors enter over 400 entries. Many thanks are due to all the juniors and adults who contributed to the event. For those in-terested, we have a photo album on our home page where you can click and view many shots taken at the show. If you want to print one of the photos, just double click and it should give you
a high resolution photo to print. We are proud of the June/July issue
we were able to assemble. Thanks to all advertisers. A big thank you to Jimmy Dyer for allowing us to use his painting on our cover. Hereford demand seems to keep growing. By the number of calls and private sale results, we should have a fantastic fall sale season.
Our web site continues to be very active in getting sale results. It has been eleven years since our website first ap-peared. We have recorded over 163,000
viewers in this time. I am most pleased to hear from those of you who call to tell me the cattle are sold. I encour-age more members to avail themselves of this service. More cattle listings will only draw more parties looking to buy. Success breeds success. We do ask that you keep the listings current and espe-cially let us know when the cattle are sold. But for now, keep the information coming. We have had a huge number of requests for heifers and cows. Any-one with female Hereford cattle for sale needs to let us know. I am also pleased to report that our Facebook presence has been a great success and that we now have 3400 followers. Even our Texas Junior Hereford Association Face-book page is popular.
The THA is involved in a lot of activities and the next few weeks are when a number of these events will take place. We co-sponsor a booth at the annual Beef Cattle Short Course in College Station with TPHA. I am excited to hear from a number of members who have never attended the BCSC that plan to attend the 2016 event. I look forward to this event every year because of all the interesting new people I have the opportunity to meet and learn from. The program is also very timely and beneficial to anyone involved with cat-tle. We have plans to attend a number of cattle clinics the next few months. I encourage our members to attend one in their area. It is a great opportunity to meet fellow cattlemen and possible new customers.
I remind members that bull and fe-male entries are due now for our Fall Classic sale in Buffalo as well as the Cowtown Invitational Sale and the 48th Annual Whiteface Replacement female sale. Remember the Whiteface Replace-ment sale can accept black baldie heif-ers and we really need to increase our numbers in this division in order to continue to offer this class. Please help us gather a quality offering. If you do not have heifers, encourage a customer or neighbor to consign a pen or two. A successful sale is a good reflection for everyone involved in the Hereford industry.
There are many shows, sales and other promotional events coming in the next few months. I encourage THA members to attend all that you can and promote your Hereford breed every chance you get. Remember THA is here to help Sellers sell and Buyers buy. Un-til next month, stay cool. ★
