Whoooaaa And just where did the late, great month of May go? At least it was a good flying month with quite few nice days and a lot of activity at Duster field. I got my time in and then some. Club Field Marshall Bill Bale

claims it even cuts a half hour off of the field mow time

They say that if it can be done with a Cub, that Don Schulz can do it. Don shown here with his latest, a clipped wing, gas powered and LARGE version of said product of Piper. No, he is not standing way behind it, it’s that large. Beautiful plane with plenty of realistic detail and al-ways beautifully flown by Don.

Meeting Notes

The delayed April meeting of the Dusters RC Club was held Monday, May 3, in the fine offices of nelson Financial Center in Woodburn. There were no new members or guests pre-sent, however a Duster’s welcome to new mem-bers Patrick Roy and Nathan Chrisman. This brings our paid membership to 108 for the 2010 season. It was noted that all 108 made it in under the wire and were no one was charged a $20 late dues payment surcharge….yet. Minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report reveals that we are sub-stantially in the black and the only outstanding bill is a payment to our landlord for grass seed. Safety officer Lurvey was not present. A re-view of the fence strike by a large plane was un-dertaken, and it was decided that maybe, in re-pairing the fence, this is a good time to move the fence out a few feet to make the pits area a bit larger. Field Marshall Bale reported the tractor was down again, but lime was down, the grass seed applied and that some of the overseed was com-ing up. The Fly-A-Ways new field off Hwy 26 was an-nounced…Congratulations to those guys. The condition of the road onto our field was discussed Dale has agreed to turn and float it now, while the conditions are good. He will de-termine, at that point, whether more gravel might indeed, be needed.

Old Business The overall condition of our field tractor was reviewed. After a short discussion, motion was made and passed to purchase a new tractor from Fisher Implement Discussion centered on disposal of the old, and various proposals were considered before the issue was tabled until the May meeting. We were reminded that we need to replace one of the rotted tables in the pits with the good one still residing in the Quonset.

New Business: The club was offered to good sized pieces of dryer felt from another club, free for the hauling, and it was decided to accept the generous offer. Terry was going to find a trailer and there were several volunteers lining up to assist him. The pit protection fence was again brought up for discussion. Repair or replace was the question of the hour, and in the end, a motion was made and passed to replace the exiting fence with a new placed 4 feet further out towards the runway. The club was asked to consider a sponsorship at the Woodburn Firehouse Cook Off event. Spon-sorships begin at $250 and sponsors receive a few complimentary tickets to the even, which involves tasting Barbecued Pork, Beef and Chicken, a sand-wich meal and samples of beers and wines. This event is held August 7th and the profits are donated to Marion County Search and rescue. Several members volunteered that they have at-tended this event and that it is a worthwhile ven-ture. A decision on this was tabled until the May meeting The meeting was adjourned at &:50 PM Prize winners were Red Ticket: Bob Hoover Blue Ticket: Bill Bale A reminder to all that the May meeting of the Dusters RC club will be held at the field. Bring a plane to fly early and an appetite for dinner prior to the meeting 7 pm, Monday, May 24th

Speaking of Sergei, this is one of the few known pictures of his masterfully built, Top Flite, Gold

Edition. P51 in 1/7 scale at 65 inches. With retracts and an OS 1.08 up front, it flew like

most of these kits, poorly at low speed. That said, at full power it stripped the aileron, flaps and rudder servo gear trains, all in one

flight. This was perhaps the fastest warbird I have ever seen. May she R.I.P.

Back to pattern plane history class. Sergei Dennenbaum shown here with a South-ern RC Sweet Tater pattern plane from, I

believe, the last 60’s. Though he tried to disguise it as a Kougar, the low profile fuselage and wide wings-

pan give it away. .61 powered and a pussycat in the air

Steve Stricker poses with his snub nosed T- 38. Steve had this obscure kit laying around for 20 years before he found the motivation to get started on it. Powered by a .52 and weigh-ing 11 pounds, the wing loading numbers were

against him.

Though the plane flew well enough , it was ex-tremely pitch sensitive due to its all flying stabi-

lizer, short coupling and high weight. Shown here after its first touchdown, one can not help but notice the loose fit of many of its major

components.

like Pat would do.”
