    CONVENTION, VARANASI

    31st December 2019 to 5th January 2020

Brethren of Blavatsky Lodge & Bombay Theosophical Federation

gathered in Green Room of Blavatsky Lodge in the evening of Friday

  • 6 ________________________________________________________

10th January 2020 to receive the Bountiful Grace of the Divine force

gathered at the 144th TS Convention held at the campus of Indian

Section TS, Varanasi. After 30 years the Convention was again

    held at Varanasi.

BTF President Bro. Vinayak Pandya with PP presentation made

Brethren feel they were part of the Convention. East & Central

Africa General Secretary Shri Narendra Shah and his wife graced

the meeting. BTF Delegates Sis. Malti Pandya, Sis. Thrity Dalal, Sis.

Meenaben Chawda and Bro. Bhavesh Pandya (who had gone a week

ahead to serve as volunteer) also shared what they experienced and

what touched their hearts in the midst of freezing cold of Varanasi.

Bro. Vinayak Pandya and Shri Narendra Shah sharing their

impressions said: The preparations Indian Section had to make to

host the Convention within a year and organizing the Convention

details and comfort of Delegates was amazing. This was thanks to

meticulous planning and execution of details by Indian Section

President Shri Pradeep Gohil, Treasurer Shri V. Narayanan,

Convention Officer Shri Shikhar Agnihotri and their Team. The

campus was beautiful with green lawns, ponds with blooming Lotus

and greenery surrounding the IS Headquarters Building.

At the Convention people inquired about Mr. & Mrs. Navin Kumar,

Bro. Rustom Dalal and Bro. Ram Kalra.

The Opening of Convention and of Radha Burnier Amphitheater

with ‘Jyot se Jyot Jalao’ ceremony was inspiring. With the Song

‘Jyot se Jyot Jalao’ from the Inaugural Lamp students lighting the

candles of all Delegates enveloped all in Brotherhood of Light, Love

& Oneness. It was heartening to see students volunteering their

    services at the Convention.

International President Tim Boyd opened the Convention with

Invocation and his pictorial presentation of TS activities around the

world. The photos of original paintings of Thought Forms were

    displayed at the Convention.

Besant Lecture by Rtn Kalyan Banerji, Rotary International

President on ‘Service above Self’ guided by ‘Four Way Test of

Rotary’ conveyed how Rotary through service without expectations

    works for Universal Brotherhood.

Devotional Meeting was at Shiva Temple, the place about which

Shri Narendra Shah said that has the maximum magnetism in the

Campus. Bro. Vinayak told the story about Shiva Temple. On

Indian Section Campus there was an old temple, where Master Morya

& Master KH had stayed. They found a Shivling from a pond next to

the temple and enshrined it in the Temple. The spot where the

Shivling is today has very strong divine magnetism. Today the new

temple has Siva Temple on one side and Bharat Samaj Pooja Temple

on the other side with a common entrance.

High Lights of Convention Sessions, Public Lectures, Indian Section

Convention, TOS Session, Symposiums, Cultural programmes

including Choir of Adyar School Children and other activities like

Exhibition of Original Paintings of Thought Forms were shared.

About Shri P. Krishna, Shri Narendra Shah said that when he came &

spoke, we felt that he is another J. Krishnamurti.

Sis. Deepa Kapur with mother Sis. Manjula Kanabar is a family

of Daressalam in Mumbai. They welcomed East & Central Africa

General Secretary Shri Narendra Shah and his wife with

presentation of His Holiness Dalai Lama‟s book „Ancient Wisdom,

    Modern World‟.

Honouring the request of members Shri Narendra Shah shared

salient points of his Convention speech ‘Living Intelligently’: Man

has a Divine Spark. From Third Root Race man has evolved to what

he is today. For him life is a rat race from Breakfast to Dinner going

through daily chores and attending to challenges at work and home.

Now life is devoid of Real Peace. One needs to go within to

contemplate to find answers to “Who am I? What have I done whole

day? Have I achieved anything”. One should take control of one‟s life

and with meaningful journey within strive to live life with wisdom.

Like „Vision 20:20‟ of medical science our pursuits should be to have

    spiritual „Vision 20:20‟ in the year 2020.

Bro. Vinayak Pandya’s talk on ‘Realizing the Divine Within’ was

complimented by Shri Narendra Shah with words, „He made life

easier for listeners with stories, which they can understand and

correlate with their life‟. Bro. Vinayak said that he had followed the

advice of Dr. Ajay Hora to explain points with stories, as Late

Stalwart Harjivandas Mehta used to do.

Bro. Bhavesh Pandya, as a Volunter shared his observations,

experiences and challenges to attend to comforts of Delegates in the

freezing cold. His spiritual experience was that vibrations in Varanasi

were even better & more powerful than in Adyar.

Shri Narendra Shah added that as Theosophists we did not look for

comfort & luxury. Bonds of love & friendship of International

    Delegates was a unique experience.

Sis. Thrity Dalal spoke about Varanasi Sightseeing including Ganga

Cruise and Aarti at Ganga. At Rajghat to walk where Krishnaji used

to walk was a spiritual experience. In Sarnath they saw the Boddhi

Tree, a sapling of which was brought to Adyar by Shri Jinarajadasa

and planted opposite the Buddhist Shrine.

Bro. Vinayak Pandya ended the presentation singing Bhajan ‘Eak

    Pavitra Zaranu’ (a pious spring).

Sis. Mahazaver Dalal thanked all for bringing the spiritual force of

benedictions received by them at Varanasi for Brethren of Mumbai.

    COMMEMORATION MEETING FOR STALWART

    LATE BRO. KHURSHED P. SANJANA

At Blavatsky Lodge on 24th January 2020

The meeting was opened with the Universal Prayer and lighting of

lamp near photo of Late Bro. Khurshed Sanjana, who passed away to

light eternal on 11th January 2020 at the age of 98 years. Dr. Ajay

Hora (with 60 years experience of TS in Mumbai) in his message

said Bro. Khurshed Sanjana was one of the Architects of Bombay

Theosophical Federation and one of the most senior members, who

was responsible for many unforgettable memories in past decades.

Sis. Meherangiz Baria, who as a President of Blavatsky Lodge

had the privilege to present a Scroll of Honour for over 62 years’

service to Theosophy to Bro. Khurshed Sanjana in 2012 said: He

  • 12 ________________________________________________________

influenced the next generation with Theosophy. He had invited me

and my mother to join TS.

Sis. Meherangiz reading from the Scroll related his Theosophical

Journey: With introduction to Theosophy by elder brother Jalbhai

Sanjana, guidance by uncle Bro. Minoo Mullan and motherly occultist

Lady Hiramama Bunsha he had started his journey in study of

Theosophy. He joined Unity Youth Lodge on Wesak Purnima of

    1948.

His study of „Life after Death‟ helped him in crisis when his dear wife

and ardent Theosophist passed way at a young age. As an adult he

joined „Shanti Lodge‟, which was his Mother Lodge and he joined

Blavatsky Lodge as an Associate Member. He responded to the call of

Bombay Theosophical Federation as a Council Member. He served

both Lodges and BTF in varied capacities like Council / Managing

Committee Member, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, President,

    Honorary Auditor.

As a Federation Lecturer he conducted study of Theosophical Books

and addressed Red Letter Days and Wesak Purnima Meetings. He

also organized three One Day Study Camps on deeper aspects of

    Theosophy.

He used to conduct Zoroastrian Ritual and was senior participant of

Allied Activities like, Round Table, Mystic Star Ritual and Co-

Freemasonry. In the Centenary Year of Theosophical Society 1975 he

had arranged a whole Railway Bogie for 75 Brethren of Bombay to

attend the Centenary TS Convention at Adyar and to return to

Mumbai with a TS banner displayed on the Bogie. He had even taken

Brethren to Bhowali to attend a Study Camp.

He deeply cared for members. He had even taken a lady member at

his own cost to Dalai Lama Medical Centre at Dharamshalla for

treatment for which Bombay Doctors had given no hope. The Lady

    had survived for three years.

  • 13 ________________________________________________________

Tributes of Sis. Deepa Kapoor and her Mother Manjulaben

Kanabar were read out by Sis. Aban Patel:” This is a Tribute to my

Teacher, my Guide and my Spiritual mentor ‘Sanjana Uncle’. I was

introduced to the essence of Theosophy, to the whole new world of

ageless wisdom through my highly knowledgeable, most

compassionate and deeply spiritual teacher Sanjana Uncle.” Deepa

had added that to accommodate her timings during her school and

college days he used to come every Tuesday to Blavatsky Lodge

specially to teach her. The foundation laid by him had come in good

stead for her. His faith in her had created positivity to create her own

miracles and success in life. When she had medical emergency and

was in bed, at the age of 80 years he came to see me and gave me

lovely books to read including „At the Feet of the Master‟.

For Sis. Manjulaban he was a „Soul Brother‟. He used to take her to

many Theosophical trips and ensured that she never felt her physical

challenge. He would talk about the depth of Theosophical Teachings

and would read out books to her. When she was in East Africa he

used to write to her and never missed to wish her on Birthdays.

Sis. Kashmira Khambatta, President of Blavatsky Lodge said that

Khurshedbhai encouraged her to speak at a Red Letter Day Meeting.

Often he used to take class only for her in Blavatsky Lodge Office

Room. He had told her that a portrait of Zarathushtra in Green Room

was painted by Mr. Pithawalla under the guidance of Dr. Annie

    Besant.

Sis. Mahazaver Dalal paid tributes on behalf of Shanti Lodge

(Khurshedbhai‟s Mother Lodge) and Bro. Rustom Dalal & Sis.

Freny Paghdiwala. She said that after 40 years Shanti Lodge had

shifted to their premises in 1986 and Fourth Thursdays used to be

    Khurshedbhai‟s lectures.

He taught Theosophy with deeper insight and groomed members for

TS Administration responsibilities. He encouraged conveying

Theosophy through Charts, Slides, Leaflets, Flower Arrangements

  • 14 ________________________________________________________

and Indian / Western Music. He was a silent sponsor for quite a few

such activities. e.g. he had sponsored printing of Booklet on Wesak &

Asala Purnima compiled by Late Sis. Khorshed Avari. He insisted

and trained Brethren to perform Rituals with proficiency and

understanding of the teachings of the Rituals.

In those days there were no Computer, no Internet, not even Xerox so

they had to work manually by coming straight from their work to

Blavatsky Lodge. He had started a tradition of inviting Sis. Freny

Paghdiwala‟s Junior Choir to the very first meeting of New Year of

    Shanti Lodge.

Few days before he passed away, when Bro. Rustom & Sis.

Mahazaver had gone to meet him, he was quite active, peaceful and

enjoyed watching from his flat trains coming and going from Central

Station. The first thing he had done was to give money to Sis.

Mahazver to pay all his outstanding Masonic and Lodge fees. He

had even come to see them off at the Lift.

Bro. Navin Kumar, Past President of Blavatsky Lodge, fondly

remembered greatness of Bro. Khurshed Sanjana. It was

Khurshedbhai, who had introduced his Father, when Father had come

to Bombay as a National Lecturer. For the study of „Mahtama Letters‟

even though Navin used to be an only one present, Khurshedbhai

used to come to teach him..

Bro. Vinayak Pandya, President of Bombay Theosophical

Federation fondly remembered seeing him in Adyar with Brethren

from Bombay at the TS Centenary Convention. At the Conventions in

Adyar, people do remember him. It is his greatness that he used to

devote time even for a single member. He was a Living Theosophist.

Bro. Ram Kalra, Ex-Secretary of BTF said, „One thing I learnt

from him was say what needs to be said, but say it lovingly,

peacefully so that the other person does not feel hurt.‟

Brethren fondly sent out thoughts of peace and strength for Late Bro.

Khurshed Sanjana‟s son Dr. Minoo, daughter Sis. Freny Jabulee and

    niece Sis. Thrity Dalal.

  • 15 ________________________________________________________

Brethren also observed silence sending out thoughts of love, peace

and gratitude for Dear Khurshedbhai and praying that may he

continue his noble work on Higher Planes and inspire Brethren to

    live Theosophy.
