Sam Adams and the
Sons of Liberty had a plan…On December 16th, they sent a letter to the governor of
Mass. demanding the ships leave the harbor
The governor denied the request, prompting Sam
Adams to say…
“This meeting can do nothing further to save the country”
The disguised colonists left the meetinghouse and boarded the
ships
They split open the chests and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor
Adams words were a signal, prompting a group of men (disguised as Indians) to burst into the
meetinghouse
“Boston harbor a teapot tonight!
The Mohawks are come”!
Effect of the Boston Tea PartyIn response to the Boston Tea Party, British Parliament passed
