• He wants to get home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus.

• It takes him 10 years to get there. He has many encounters with monsters and goddesses that hold him up.

• In the meantime, Penelope is fending off suitors who want to marry her, thereby gaining Odysseus’s power and wealth.
