Dear Friends,

The following was in a recent publication from The United States

Conference of Bishops newsletter announcing October as Pro-Life Month.

When battered by life’s storms, or immersed in a dense fog of suffering and uncertainty, we may feel alone and unequipped to handle the circumstances. Yet with words that echo through thousands of years into the corners of our hearts, the Lord says to us, “Do not fear: I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).

He speaks these words not as one who merely observes our pain, but as one who experienced immense suffering. And the very wounds that bear witness to His suffering indicate the essence of our identity and worth; we are loved by God.

Reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we see that even our most difficult trials can be the place where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new.

He is always with us. Jesus promised this when he gave the disciples the same mission He gives to each of us: Go.

Go be my hands and feet to a world enslaved by fear. Go to the woman who is unexpectedly pregnant and fears the future. Go to your friend who fears reprisal at work because he takes a stand for the protection of human life. Go to your aging parent in failing health who fears being a burden. And go to others, too, for their support.

We don’t need to have everything figured out. We can simply follow the guidance of Our Blessed Mother, the first disciple: “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5).

Walk with each other. Do not be afraid to embrace God’s gift of life. Whatever the storms or trials we face, we are not alone. He is with us.

“Behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

As we enter into this Pro-Life Month, there are so many ways for you and me to stand up for LIFE. I am proud

of the many ways our parish family supports and protects the dignity of life from conception to natural death.

May the Lord of Life protect us and give us the grace and power to do what is right, just and holy.

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

Thank You from Father Chylinski

Dear Friends in Christ,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the people of St. Joseph Parish for the privilege of serving you on the weekends. I am most grateful to Msgr. McLoone, Fr. Rossi, and all of the priests of the parish for welcoming me to such a faith-filled and warm community. It has been a joy to celebrate Mass here with all of you for these last three years. As I recently announced, my weekend ministry assignment has been changed (although my primary work at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary continues). One of the greatest challenges as a priest is to have to say “goodbye” to the people that he loves and serves in parish ministry. But what gives us consolation is that no matter where God calls us to next, those people remain in our hearts and prayers. The people of St. Joseph will very much remain in mine. Please keep me in yours!

May God bless you,

Fr. Keith ChylinskiFr. Keith ChylinskiFr. Keith ChylinskiFr. Keith Chylinski

C.Y.O. Mass The Fall C.Y.O. Mass will take place

Saturday, October 7 at the 5 p.m. Mass.

Downingtown Life Chain This Sunday, October 1, National Life Chain Sunday 2017 will conduct our 30th annual prayer witness on "village" sidewalks throughout America and Canada. Our witness, Lord willing, will again change hearts, save lives, and further unveil the grievous scourge of legal child killing in our two nations. The duty of ending the killing rests foremost with the church Christ founded and that is now entrusted to us. If our resolve and courage is anchored, God would redeem our limitations and grant victory for His glory.

Make a commitment to join fellow parishioners for the

annual LIFE CHAIN this Sunday, October 1 from 2:30

- 3:30 p.m. in Downingtown. Br ing the whole family for an hour of prayer & silent witness to God's gift of life! Those who attend will line the South side of Route 30 in Downingtown from Brandywine Avenue West towards the train station. Please pick up your signs at the Donohue Funeral Home parking lot or just go to a position along the street & wait for a Marshall to bring you a sign. Each person should be spaced 10 ft. apart from each other. This is an hour of prayerful witness so no talking or responding to the public. For info, call Rich Junod at 610-405-0498.

Be part of our Banner of Life! Come celebrate the choice of life after all Masses on Sept. 30/Oct. 1 by helping the Legacy of Life Foundation create a banner of life.

The Legacy of Life Foundation supports two crisis women’s centers in Bucks County and Philadelphia, by fundraising to support the financial needs of women struggling with unplanned pregnancies. The unique mission of the centers is the counseling approach used to empower women to free themselves from fear and isolation so that they can freely choose life.

Founded in 2008, the foundation works with every woman who comes through their doors. More than 1,400 women who have sought their help have chosen life. The foundation offers pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, a 24/7 crisis hotline, and advocacy and counseling for at least three years after the baby is born (through ongoing counseling and assistance with housing, clothing, food, child care, and baby supplies).

As we begin Respect Life Month, the foundation will be in

the St. John Neumann Room creating a banner of life that

will stand in our narthex all month long. You can sign your

name across the photo of a baby whose mother chose life

(the photos will make up the banner). You can make a

donation to the foundation, pick up information about their

work, and learn more about how this organization saves

and celebrates life every day.

Journey to Joy: Exploring our Images of God

Who is God? What is God like? How do you image God as you pray? What is your lived experience of God? How has your image of God changed as you have matured? How does your adult image of God shape your relationships and your actions? St. Ignatius of Loyola recognized that his adult understanding of human love, relationships and life were a portal into a deeper friendship with God. We invite you to explore your image of God with us on Saturday, October 14 at St. Joseph’s in the school cafeter ia from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The day will be guided by Pam Seymour and Carol Jensen who are trained Ignatian spiritual directors. Registration is required ($40). Lunch, refreshments and printed materials will be provided. Contact Pam at [email protected] or Carol at [email protected] before October 7 to register.

Stewardship Corner St. Paul offers a formula for living the way we are supposed to live as Christians in the Second Reading. Paul writes, “Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves.” Doing this is a challenge for most of us, yet it is one of the secrets to being a good steward and living as Christ wants us to live. To truly live that way requires a dramatic conversion. All of us know people who are so self-centered that they often are not even aware that they are totally unwilling to compromise or to even recognize the value of those around them. Achieving this kind of self awareness, of what kind of a person we are, is a significant step on our faith and life journeys. Screenwriter and playwright William Nicholson once wrote, “God does not necessarily want us to be happy. He wants us to be lovable, worthy of love, able to be loved by Him. What makes people hard to love? It is called selfishness. Selfish people are hard to love, because so little love comes out of them.” That is our challenge, to love others in such a way that we become lovable as well. Christ told us over and over that the secret to being His disciple and the secret to being a good steward is to “Love your neighbor.” That is how to be the kind of person Paul calls us to be as well.
