My Brother Knights and their families: The Council will have a booth at this year’s Johnny’s Run Pro-Life event to be held at Cardinal O’Hara High School on Sunday, October 8. We will be looking for volunteers to staff the booth. I encourage all who are able, to attend the event. The COAL Program is underway, and books of chances have been mailed. Please let us know if you can use additional books. COAL is an important source of revenue for our Council in fulfilling its vari-ous service and charitable activities. Let’s try to sell as many tickets as possible. We will again be participating in the Keep Christ in Christmas card program. We are currently scheduled to sell cards at St. Pius following the Masses on December 2 and 3. We are also looking into obtaining a date to sell the cards at St. Anastasia. The Mater Dei Christmas Party will be held at the Council Hall on Saturday, December 2. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. Thank you for your prayers and support. Fraternally, Charlie Waldecker PS: Refer to the calendars and announcements for all our Council activities in future versions of The Observer. Also, please check your e-mails often for any last minute announcements and reminders.

The COAL returns are coming in slowly, so if you have not sent them in, PLEASE do so as soon as possible. Remember — the COAL Program helps our Council, and the State COAL Chairman, Joe Caromano, is a member of Mater Dei. Let’s make sure our Council shines in sales! John Gallagher, COAL Chairman

Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

That's FAITH.

When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.

That's TRUST.

Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set the alarms to wake up.

That's HOPE.

We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

That's CONFIDENCE.

We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.

That's LOVE.

On an old man's shirt was written a sentence “I am not 80 years old; I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.”

That's ATTITUDE.

WIDOWS OF THE LADIES’ AUXILIARY OF MATER DEI COUNCIL

On behalf of our Grand Knight Charles Waldecker, it is my pleasure to invite you to Mater Dei Council’s Annual Memorial Mass, to be held at the Council Home on Sunday, November 5, at 9 AM. This will be followed by a buffet breakfast. We will remember your deceased husbands at that time; but it is also a time to let you know that we will not forget you. Ask Eligible Men to Join

Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members — and more members equal more charity. We know that the Membership Blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder’s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community, and the Order. During the rest of the year, we often “forget” to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn’t joined is because no one has asked him yet? When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a “selling point” to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members. As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can. Vivat Jesus, Tom Firchow, FA (484) 427-4191
