Stiner’s 15th Annual Picnic - August 5th
New Member: Bobby Mukkamala
Arrive at 1:00PM – Meal at 2:00PM
Jaguar Club Members, you are cordially invited to the Stiner’s home, back yard & garden in old historic Howell for an afternoon social picnic.
Please drive your cats for all to enjoy—especially our neighbors and friends. Last year we had 25 attendees and 13 Jaguars, all seemed to have a good time and we think no one went away hungry or lacking the experience of great conversation under the old shade tree.
Roast Turkey and Pulled Pork will be the Stiner’s treat to the club members, as will soda and water.
Please bring a pot luck dish to pass.
RSVP: Please respond by WednesdayAugust 1st.
It would be helpful if you could indicate what you are bringing. Jackie may assist you with suggestions.

IT’S TIME!
DON’T WAIT ANY LONGER!
GET YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE 45th ANNUAL JAGM CONCOURS d’ ELEGANCE IN NOW!!!!!
2011 was the first year for our new show location and it proved to be a hit with everyone who attended. Yes, it’s the same day as the Woodward Cruise, but not to worry, our location puts the show on the northern fringe and access is never a problem. For years, we had members asking for a venue where the public has a better opportunity to participate and see the cars.
Well, this is it!
We hope to attract even more spectators this year. Our local Jaguar Dealers will also be displaying the newest offerings so there will be plenty to see. We even get some of the Cruisers to stop by!
For those who don’t get into the judging aspects of the Concours, please sign up for a display spot. All Jaguar cars are important and all of them are welcome in the
show. We never have too many!
So don’t put it off any longer. Get that application filled out, and come join the Party!
August 5th is the Annual Stiner’s Picnic at their lovely home in Howell. This will be the 15th year and every year it just gets better. RSVP by August 1st.
It has been great to have a number of members participating in some of the drive events. The Caravan to Hickory Corners had seventeen cars and the Ice Cream Social and Tee Shirt Night had about nineteen vehicles. Not all Jags, but most were British. This brings something to mind; while we definitely like to see a contingent of Jaguars at all our events, there is no reason not to attend if for some reason your Jag is not available or there is a reason to drive something else. We have people coming from work or other activities where they are unable to drive their favorite Cat and just bring their civilian vehicle. This is never an issue. We want to see you, most of all!
No Membership meeting until September.
Hope to see you all at the Concours! (now get that application filled out and sent in TODAY!)

2012 Concours d’Elegance - Saturday August 18th
The 2012 Concours is REALLY CLOSE! – as a reminder, the cut-off date for entry in the Judged Classes is August 8th. Any entries received after this date will be entered in Display Class, which may be entered up to and including the day of the Concours.
If you haven’t participated in a Concours for awhile or you are not interested in having your car judged, I have a challenge for you: enter your car in Display Class & if you don’t enjoy yourself I’ll personally see that your $10 entry fee is refunded! All you’ll have to endure is the admiring comments of the spectators & fellow participants. How can you lose?
There will be plenty of good food, but if you would like to bring a snack, a munchie, or a dessert for the Hospitality Room I’m sure it would be enjoyed and appreciated. And, Genie is always looking for helping hands.
After the judging is concluded, our casual meal (byob) will
be served outdoors, under a covered area. You may attend the meal without showing a car if you wish to. Cost is $12.50 per person (kids under 10 eat free). Just indicate on the Concours registration form Meals Only. We’ll be eating about 5:00 PM.
Well, that’s it, it is TIME to register, do it NOW.
Regards,Chuck Diamond, 2012 Concours Chair

If this information looks familiar, it’s because this year’s Concours is again being held in conjunction with the famous “Woodward Dream Cruise”. Our Concours site allows us to enjoy the spectacle while being north of the main activity and congestion, while still being part of the country’s largest automotive event. If you were not able to attend last year, you missed a great time - ask anyone who was there! We hope this year you will consider showing your car in support of the Marque and our club.
Rather not have your car judged? No problem – again this year we will have a display class with a nominal entry fee; cars of any marque are welcome. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for this class will be determined by a “people’s choice” ballot.
Room Reservation Info: the Marriot Residence Inn, 3333 Centerpoint Parkway Pontiac, MI 48341 Phone # is 248-858-8664
Join us Friday evening in the Marriot Gatehouse Hospitality Suite to greet old friends and meet new ones.
Saturday, hospitality will be provided at the office complex. Soon after the judging and score tabulations are complete, a casual buffet, in lieu of a formal banquet, will be held on site. Award presentations will immediately follow the meal.
Trailer parking is available both at the Marriot and the Concours site. Security will be provided at the hotel.

We Felt Like a Pack of “Mad Dogs”…This year’s Caravan to Hickory Corners turned out to be a test for both man/woman and machine. Seventeen cars and thirty two individuals braved the searing 100F heat of July across the heartland of lower Michigan to reach their evening entertainment and overnight retreat.
Although it took almost five hours, the test was
met and all arrived safe and unbroken (but maybe a little wilted). So hardy was the bunch that a five O’clock show time was kept and a live Barn Theatre performance of Legally Blond was thoroughly enjoyed by the adventurers.
Not to be overcome by the heat, a greater number of the entourage kept Yarrow’s Pub alive to the wee hours replenishing much needed lost fluids.

Mad Dogs continued
Sunday at the Mad Dogs and Englishmen’s car show proved to be the real reward where the group was blessed with cooler air and a fine breeze. A
primo spot under a giant shade tree, complete with a picnic table, topped off the JAGM camp site. Having missed the last
two years at MD&E, there was a lot to take in with the new display buildings and additional vehicles. As always, the outside British array of fine automobiles was most interesting.
It was nice to see some unfamiliar Jaguars from the MI west coast and a couple
new JAGM members may have been recruited!
The tempered weather made the drive back towards Motown much more enjoyable. The half hour stop in Olivet for ice cream gave quick relief to any driver fatigue.
To those who worry about our older (or newer) Jaguars having cooling problems, not
one car boiled over even though the temperature on the Saturday drive reached 100F. Also, it does help to keep moving!
What we did learn was that the modern pump gas is not up to the task and care has to be taken to avoid fuel vaporizing in carbureted engines when stopped. This was remedied by lifting the bonnets when parked to allow
the trapped heat to escape. Re-starting was found not to be a problem when this was done. Modern fuel injected cars do not experience this due to the fuel being kept under high pressure under the bonnet.

This was one of the largest turnouts for the Ice Cream Social in several years. Almost thirty people gathered at Archie’s for the JAGM Annual drive to Plymouth. The new meeting location meant we were a little closer to the Hines Parkway, but a little further from Plymouth, so the drive was much more relaxed and interesting.
In all, about nineteen cars, and Rod and Becky Lindoo on their motor scooter, made up the caravan. Even though Mike Bailey has sold his building, we were still able to use the parking lot which was a good thing as the Dairy King could not have accommodated the procession.
So it was a short walk for ice cream and then some relaxing time at the Veteran’s Park before heading off for the evening. Nice and warm to appreciate the ice cream and nice and relaxing to enjoy each other!

Those of you who receive the Jaguar Journal, may have seen this, but if you haven’t, you missed a great article about our very own Bob Matejek.
The May-June 2012 issue of the national magazine included a two page write up on Bob, in their “Spotlighting Your Leaders” section.
One of the best parts of the article, (from this
Editor’s point of view,) was Bob’s “quote” at the end. “I mostly enjoy the friendships, camaraderie and the car talk from being a Jaguar club member.” Honestly, what more could a person ask for?
Great article Bob, and thanks for all your time and service.
JAGM Celebrity Batt le of the Brits-CANCELWe have just been informed that the annual Battle of the Brits car show has been cancelled for this year.
Many of you know this is the largest all British show on this side of the State and one many of us have attended for years.
Apparently there were issues that could not be worked out with St. Mary’s of Orchard Lake. The BOTB organization is trying to plan a more casual “gathering of the faithful” for the September 9th Sunday so keep this date open and we will get back with everyone once we know what the plans include.
They are looking for a new venue for 2013 if anyone has an idea.
