ABOUT THE COMPANY

CAROL DUNNE (Producing Artistic Director) has served as Producing Artistic Director of Northern Stage since 2013. She and her team launched a powerful renewal of the company with the $9.2 million Campaign for Northern Stage, which resulted in the opening of the theater’s new home, the Barrette Center for the Arts in 2015. Since that time Northern Stage has seen its audiences double and its budget grow by 110%. Dunne has introduced the development of new plays to the Northern Stage repertoire with New Works Now, which has launched seven world premieres and three Off-Broadway transfers including the New York Times Critic’s pick Only Yesterday. In 2017, Dunne received a Genius Grant from the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation, and with the Foundation she created and now directs the BOLD Theater Women’s Leadership Circle (www.boldtheater.org), a $1.25 million annual grant in its fourth year which supports visionary and emerging theater leaders. At Northern Stage, Carol has directed over 16 productions including Trick or Treat by Jack Neary, starring Gordon Clapp, as well as Once, Disgraced, Dear Elizabeth, The Mountaintop, Songs for a New World, Into the Woods, Our Town, Good People, and The Importance of Being Earnest. Dunne was named a finalist for the 2020 Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes directors who have demonstrated great accomplishment to-date with creativity and deep investment in a particular community. Dunne is also an award winning Senior Lecturer in Theater at Dartmouth College, and launched the Experiential Term for Dartmouth students which has resulted in student work receiving professional productions, professional roles in subsequent seasons, and full and part time jobs for seven “graduates” of the program. Prior to coming to Northern Stage, Dunne was Producing Artistic Director of the New London Barn Playhouse from 2008 until 2015. IRENE GREEN (Managing Director) joined Northern Stage in August of 2013 as the Director of Sales & Marketing, became the Associate Managing Director in January of 2018, and the Managing Director November 2018. During her tenure audience attendance has more than doubled and a membership model has been introduced to engage and sustain both patrons and the company. Irene was an instrumental part of the $9.2 million Campaign for Northern Stage, which culminated in the opening of the theater’s new home, the Barrette Center for the Arts, in 2015. Her work through the COVID-19 pandemic made it possible for Northern Stage to be the first LORT theater in the United States to be approved by union partners for indoor performance in October 2020. Irene is a graduate of the Leadership Upper Valley Program hosted by Vital Communities (Class of 2016) and completed the Leadership and Strategic Impact Course hosted by the Tuck School of Business in 2019. She served as a Board Member for the Hartford, VT Area Chamber of Commerce from September 2016-January 2019, and was named a Rising Star: Top 40 under 40 in the State of Vermont in 2020 by Vermont Business Magazine.
