The Bond of Brothers is not just a phrase, it is a lifetime commitment. The Founders of Kappa Psi Kappa wanted more than just a fraternity, they wanted a True Brotherhood. A Brotherhood that would unite many men from all walks of life that would come together for what Kappa Psi Kappa believes in. By joining Kappa Psi Kappa you are agreeing to accept the high ideals of Brotherhood, Service, Leadership, and Scholarship. You are also accepting yourself for who you are, and committing to strive for the best despite what obstacles should occur. This concept which has roots from the very beginning of the organization. Yes, there were a number of fraternities that were already founded but the founders of Kappa Psi Kappa wanted something that other organizations didn't have. The founders, lead by strength, founded the concepts of Kappa Psi Kappa.

Welcoming the Newest Lamb

Bro. DaJavon Davis

DaJavon Davis entered this organization in Spring of 2011. DaJavon brings a very new prospective to the Lambda Chapter. We sat down with

Brother Davis to speak with him, and to learn more about our newest Lamb.

Brother Davis, what do you hope to bring to the North Atlantic Region?

As its newest member I hope to bring in a breath of fresh air. I have a lot of new

and fresh ideas. One of my top concerns is branding ourselves. Kappa Psi Kappa is very well known on a business level in

Boston. However, I would like to bring Kpsi down to the people. I would like to see us more physically active through chants, and

strolls. We need to really wear our colors and letters loud and proudly. We need certain poses in pictures that is strictly reflect a

man of KPsi. We need people to see our letters know who we are and what we stand for.

What does the word brotherhood mean to you?

Brotherhood has evolved over time to me. However one thing that always comes to mind is the word “everlasting.” No matter what

issues may arise between us, or what may come in our way we are always there for each other. It's bigger than just me, it’s about

us.

How is who you are now different than who you were before membership?

Before crossing into this organization I thought I knew who I was. I thought I had found the real me and I was okay with that

person. Crossing into this organization has brought out a side of me that I never knew existed. I have a sense of pride in myself. I

aspire to do more (if that's possible). The biggest thing that has changed about me is my opinions about commitment. Becoming a

member of Kpsi is a lifetime commitment and at first I was afraid, but now I embrace it.

Building Community Partnerships The GBBC, the 4

th largest LGBT Chamber of Commerce in the United States is proud to recognize its ongoing relationship with

Lambda Chapter of Kappa Psi Kappa, Fraternity Inc. In the past year, this wonderful group of young men has volunteered for

our organization on two separate occasions. The first for our Annual Awards Dinner and the second, at our annual boat cruise

fundraiser for Aids Action and Community Servings; where we were able to raise over $7,000 to benefit these two

organizations. This fraternity’s help and active participation has greatly benefited our community as a whole and

demonstrates their firm commitment to building a strong and vital framework for not only socially responsible LGBT programs

but also recognizing that LGBT businesses have a tremendous role to play in the success and positive development of these

programs. On a personal note, I wish to thank all of these fine young gentlemen for their hard work. It goes without saying too

often we are all over extended and underappreciated. Truly, you all make a difference, and it has not gone unnoticed by the

Greater Boston Business Council Board of Directors. We thank you for your service and look forward to our next adventure

together.

The 2nd Annual

Lambda Chapter Extravaganza

The gentlemen of the North Atlantic Region participated in their 2nd Annual Lambda Chapter Extravaganza. We asked the

gentlemen to share a little bit about their experience with this day of brotherhood.

What did the 2nd Annual Lambda Chapter Extravaganza mean to you?

Brother Davis: It was the first time I was really able to see how Lambda interacted with each other. I learned so much about each individual. I was finally able to understand what it was that held this group together. Brother Lewis: The second Lambda Chapter Extravaganza showed me just how much my brother’s mean to me in life. I thank god for them every day. Brother Edwards: At our Second Lambda Chapter Extravaganza, it gave more insight to the newest member of who we are as a chapter. Also it opened up all of our eyes to important information that we never would sit down and express to each other which in turn, further cemented a bond of trust within each of us.

Which activity of the Extravaganza was your favorite and why?

Brother Fleury: When we were sharing candidly. Some of us were genuinely vulnerable for the first time. Brother Dear: Although this moment was not a scheduled part of the day, we collectively shared a very emotional and in depth moment, where much was poured out into the room and much was absorbed. The members of this chapter take this brotherhood very seriously, and this moment drove that point home. Brother Kenney: Diversity walk was my favorite activity because it allowed me to learn more about myself and to reflect upon myself and my own identity. The game also allowed each brother to appreciate their own diverse attributes and to respect the differences amongst each other.

What did you learn about yourself on this day of brotherhood?

Bro. Leotti: That I look up to my brothers more than I think or know. That each one of my brothers has something I’m working on obtaining.

Brother Lewis:

I learned that I have a lot more emotions inside of me than I thought I did.

Brother Dear: This day confirmed for me that we need to spend more time collectively away from business matters. We have such an amazing group of established and young professionals; however along with that we are an outstanding group of men. This weekend was evidence that when the odds are against us, that we come together as one cohesive ship. Lambda Chapter has and will continue

to be the leaders and the trend setters.

Lambda Chapter Goes All Out!

Brother’s of the Lambda Chapter share their experience of this day of brotherhood!

Brother Davis: It was one of the best times I ever had in my life. I learned that my brothers are just as crazy, and open minded as I am. OOO and Brother Dear has a serious heavy foot. Brother Edwards: It was a nice time. I enjoyed the short lines. My favorite moment definitely has to be the time my brothers sat down for almost 30 minutes to have a drawing of a group caricatures for me since the park was almost closing and knowing they wanted to get on certain rides before the park closed. I guess I learned a lot about certain people’s fear and what turns certain brother’s stomachs. Brother Lewis: My experience at Six Flags was one filled with nothing but joy and love. One of my favorite moments of the day was riding roller coasters with all the brothers. My Regional Director is petrified of a particular rollercoaster in the park, which I found to be quite hilarious. Brother Dear: Honestly, I think it was just very refreshing to get away from the city for a day. One moment I recall from this particular day that I chuckled over was a group of kids observing us as we walked through the park, making references to the movie Stomp The Yard. It also was nice to see a brother of ours who we all haven’t seen in quite some time. Good to know he is doing well. Brother Leotti: Six Flags for me was one of the best things I have done with my brothers. For me it was special because it was the first event outside of Boston that I did will all my brothers. I was overly excited and I was so happy. The thing I enjoyed the most was just being with my brothers screaming, and laughing. My brothers got to see another side of me. My Favorite moment was when Sigmond, Elijah, Shakir, and DaJavon and Dishon were riding in the little Wiggles cars. It was so cute. I learned more about myself, and that I really do get excited more than my brothers. This day meant so much to me, I had a wonderful time.

Bro. Leotti and Bro. Dear at Six Flags New England

Share a moment that has helped shape you into the man you

are today?

I think there are two very significant events of my past that have definitely played a role in the strengths as well as the barriers I carry with me today. I believe that the distance

between my father and I, as well as being a victim of bullying through grade school put me in positions where I needed to

learn to advocate and stand up for myself. From these experiences, I was able to escape the emotional cages I was in,

and use both as platforms for self development.

Where would you like to see the North Atlantic Region in the next 5 Years?

I would love to see the North Atlantic Region of Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity, Inc., as the most diverse region of the

organization. Given our location, the New England area is home to a wide variety of people with different ethnic, racial,

sexual, and religious backgrounds, Taking this into consideration, while identifying individuals who will further the

stance of our unique organization is my hope for the next 5 Years.

What words would you share with an aspiring member?

If I may be so candid with my response; This brotherhood is

something that I, and everyone last one of its members takes very seriously. Although we have just celebrated a milestone

of 10 years, we are still young and there is still work to be done, to reach and obtain our national and local goals. Any aspiring member interested in this particular brotherhood

must carry this knowledge with them upon pursuit of membership.

North Atlantic Region Unites for a Day of Service

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Dozens of volunteers descended on Public School (P.S.) 92 in The Bronx, New York Saturday, Oct. 15 sporting comfy attire and rolled-up sleeves for a spring cleaning-style event sponsored by the volunteer coordinating group New York Cares. Members of Kappa Psi Kappa (KYK) Fraternity, Inc. from Boston and the New York area were on hand to lend support to the effort by organizing, sorting and cleaning cluttered areas of the more than 100-year-old school building. The event was the first joint service project for the Boston and New York men of KYK. Bros. Yovannys Kenny, Elijah Dear, Sigmund Lewis and Steven Fleury from the Boston-based Lambda Chapter joined forces with Bros. Unique Wilson, Jamel Smith, Mason Harrison and KYK interest Joseph Smith of New York’s Nu Colony to “bring smiles” to the faces of the 500-plus pupils served by P.S. 92 in what is the poorest school district in the nation, said school principal Manuel Estrella. “Thank you for coming out and helping us do valuable work for this community,” added Estrella. Nu Colony President Bro. Wilson described the day – spent organizing classrooms, painting signs and discarding unwanted materials – as an “enriching, gratifying experience that brought both the Noble Nu Colony and Lambda Chapter together to service beautify and give to the students of P.S. 92 – staying true to our beloved fraternity’s mission and our colony’s Project P.U.R.I.F.Y. initiative,” adding, “We were truly the angels of the day. Not only did we help to restore the school, we helped P.S. 92 to continue to be a great and successful learning environment.” The men of KYK were joined by dozens of other New York Cares volunteers from the surrounding area, including P.S. 92 students and parents, members of other Greek-letter organizations and a number of P.S. 92 teachers and staffers. New York Cares began in the late 1980s in response to the growing need for coordinated volunteer efforts to help boost a troubled city. Today the organization, which supplies over 53,000 unpaid workers annually, is the largest coordinated volunteer apparatus in the Five Boroughs and runs volunteer programs for more than 1,200 area nonprofits, city agencies and public schools. “Very often, I find myself in conversations that go in depth about the universal issues that affect the lives of inner-city youth,” said North Atlantic Regional Director Bro. Dear. “Through this service project, I was able to step beyond the conversation and expose myself to the challenges of New York public schools. The opportunity to work alongside the Nu Colony through the New York Cares service project was such a rewarding experience. I appreciate their drive and commitment to their respective community, and for allowing the men of Lambda an opportunity to collaborate with them on such an amazing project.”

Interview with

Bruh Angela ‘EnKore’ Haynes & Nicole ‘Carpe Diem’ Spencer

What is your proudest moment as a member of your respective

organization?

Bruh Haynes: The proudest moment was crossing into this organization. It was

extremely overwhelming and I had two of my brothers from the Lambda Chapter

there to share it with.

Bruh Spencer: My proudest moment with Alpha Psi Kappa Fraternity, Inc. was when

ExKalibur and KavAlier crossed the Burning Baby Blue Sandz knowing the hardship

they faced. I was proud of them both. I was proud of ExKalibur for having the

courage and determination for pushing through and I was proud of KavAlier for

dedication to her LB and not letting her fall by the waist side during the time her LB

had to take a pause in the process to take care of her mother. That is the example of

being a "True Kane"!

What is your favorite memory with the gentlemen of the Lambda Chapter?

Bruh Haynes: My favorite memory was coming home from crossing and being

embraced my all by brothers of Lambda. I also love when we do community service

together.

Bruh Spencer: My favorite memory to date with the Lambda Chapter was the Stand

Up for Kids community service event we did at the Boston Library where we hit the

streets of Boston to spread the word about the Homeless Situation of Boston Youth.

Everyone was there and it was great. There was Purple and Baby Blue everywhere!

It was really a time to remember and we even had time to fellowship during that time and after. Even though this is my favorite memory so

far, I am hoping to add many more by the time I leave.

What strengths do you see in Lambda? What growth areas?

Bruh Haynes: I love the bonds in Lambda and that they always extend that bond with me and our soror. I also like the business aspects of the

chapter. In mentioning the bond, I would like to see them do more activities on a consistent basis to perhaps help to continue the strength I

see in Lambda.

If you could work on any project with the gentlemen of Lambda, what would it be?

Bruh Haynes: I would love to have a dinner fundraiser event for The Lupus Foundation. My mom passed away years ago because of it and I

would like to raise money to help find a cure. I would love to come together with Lambda and work on it as a project.

Bruh Spencer: Due to my job, I will be leaving the area in September of 2011 and I would love to work with the Brothers of the Lambda

Chapter to increase the membership of Tau Kappa Phi as a whole. Since I have been in the New England area, I have definitely seen the need

and the potential for expansion of membership into our Elite Organization. The project would have to have two focuses. The first one would

have to be: getting the word out about our organization as a whole to the community. We cannot focus on any one specific entity of Tau

Kappa Phi. The next focus would then be to recruit the individuals we know would have a positive impact on TKPhi.

Did you know?

In Fall of 2009, The Lambda Chapter was afforded the opportunity to be the first chapter nationally to conduct a 72 Hour Intake Process.

In the three years of our existence, the Lambda Chapter currently has a membership of nine members.

The Lambda Chapter volunteers each year in the Toys For Joy Charity event.

The Lambda Chapter was awarded chapter of the year in 2010 by our national office.

The Lambda Chapter was awarded the Community Service award for their outstanding service commitments.

The Lambda Chapter has had the opportunity to work and build relationships with some amazing community members and stakeholders since our founding day in 2008. As we reflect on our 3 years of service, we asked for our community partners to join us in celebrating our collective success. “The members of the Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity embody the meaning of public service. Throughout my time knowing and working with the men of this fraternity they have made themselves available for every community service activity for which I have invited them. In the past year we worked together to support the Doyle’s Road Race which raises money for local charities. They have also donated their time and energy to support community building summer cookouts in the South Street Boston Housing Development. And when asked to join me in a Pride march they marched in the pouring rain for equality. I thank the Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity for their service and look forward to many more years working together.”

Liz Malia State Representative, 11th Suffolk District “The Lambda Chapter of Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity, Inc., while relatively new to Boston, and new to Fenway Health, have quickly established themselves as an important part of Fenway Health’s volunteer community. As the manager of two large, black tie gala dinners for the GLBT community I am constantly, and consistently

impressed with the enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to which the gentlemen of the chapter perform their volunteer roles. Did I mention energy? The gentlemen have boundless energy and are always willing to take on more work! I am honored that the Lambda Chapter have chosen to volunteer with Fenway Health on the Men’s Event and the Women’s Dinner Party. I hope this relationship continues to grow for many years to come. Many congratulations to The Lambda Chapter of Kappa Psi Kappa Fraternity, Inc. on three great years of volunteer work in Boston!”
