IT’S WHAT WE DO (continued) The commitment that we ask of all Niles Rotarians is immense…actively promoting ticket sales for the event with friends, family, and business associates to reach a sellout…and ease PE Steve Landon’s anxieties…making complex planning committee decisions to make this year’s event bigger and better than last year’s…and calling upon the generosity of our Niles Rotary extended family to make it possible for Niles Rotarians to do what we do best…give back to our community. Take a look at the WHY that drives our energy…the ultimate ticket sales talking point…our 2013 grant recipients…we made big differences and changed lives in our community:

• Abode Services - $2,400 for 3 computers. • American Legion Auxiliary Unit 837 - $750 for Girl and Boy State scholarships. • Amp’d Kids - $1,000 for school supplies and sports equipment for an after-school enrichment program at

go without these items. • San Francisco Bay Area Council, BSA - $2,500 to support “Camperships” for Boy Scouts summer camp. • Stage 1 Theatre - $1,500 for a summer theatre workshop for children to learn and perform Beauty and the Beast. • StarStruck Theatre - $2,250 for actor scholarships to young people to participate in their 2013 summer

MARCH 27 MEETING Rotary International President Ron Burton was the guest of honor and program for Niles Rotary. Again, it was a very festive occasion – beautiful flowers everywhere, and the red and white University of Oklahoma colors quite visible. Guests attended from throughout the District, including many past District Governors, past Rotary International Presidents Cliff Dochterman and Rick King, and RI Director-elect Brad Howard. Many gifts were presented, and Mayor Bill Harrison presented the key to the City of RI President Burton (as he had to RI President-elect Gary Huang). Hundreds of photos of both the March 10 and March 27 meetings can be viewed on the Niles Rotary Facebook page.

DISTRICT 5170 CONFERENCE April 11 – 13, 2014

HAYES MANSION, San Jose

Get ready for the District Conference in April! Although the Saturday night banquet does conflict with our Reverse Raffle, we can enjoy the rest of the conference. Registration and the programs/forums are free for the conference; we just pay for our meal costs and overnight stay at the Hayes Mansion, if we stay there. Prior to April 11 are golf and tennis tournaments, and a bicycle ride along the Guadalupe Parkway on Friday morning. We should have a good showing for lunch on Friday, since President Chuck is presiding! In addition, the Richard D. King Speech Contest finals on Sunday morning are always excellent. To view the conference program and to register, go to the District 5170 website and click on the District Conference. (rotarydistrict5170.org) Niles Rotarians should make a special point of coming to the District Conference for Friday lunch, as President Chuck presides!

NILES ROTARY REVERSE RAFFLE & AUCTION

Our annual fundraiser, the legendary Niles Rotary Reverse Raffle & Auction, is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at the Sunol Golf & Country Club. Ticket sales are in progress. Solicitation has begin for auction and raffle items. This event raises funds for the Niles Rotary Foundation that are then distributed to non-profit organizations in our community for worthy projects and equipment. Ticket order forms are available at club meetings or online on our website: nilesrotary.org. The first thing each Niles Rotarian needs to do is buy our own ticket. And we go from there, selling to family & friends, colleagues, etc. The event itself is lots of fun, with dinner, auctions, raffle prizes, and the reverse raffle drawing.

last year’s happy winners!
