On The Cover: Longtime PPCC member, and Corvair Guru, Steve Goodman celebrat-ed 49 years in business this month as the proprietor of Rear Engine Specialists in Golden, Colorado, your local, end-to-end Corvair repair shop. Always willing to share his mechanical expertise with Club mem-bers, Steve is a dynamic personality within the Corvair hobby, and a big part of why you still see so many Corvairs on the road here in Colorado. That’s why the statement “Steve Goodman knows this car” carries so much clout in a Corvair sales ad

CONGRATULATIONS on 49 years of business Steve!!

PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Greetings, We're only 8 weeks away from the Tri-State in Montrose! Hotel Infor-mation and registration forms are available online at our PPCC web page. Be sure to reserve your room before they fill up! As always this year will be lots of fun. In preparation for the Tri-State, Eric and Linae Schakel will once again host the Tri-State Tune-Up on Sunday, May 1st. Even if you are una-ble to make it out to Montrose, you're still wel-come to come out to Sedalia and enjoy the day. Last Saturday, the School of Mines E-Days Car Show was in Golden. As I was heading out I had my first trouble of the year. Just as I was pulling in to the Lowe's parking lot to meet the Feasel's, the ‘68 started to run rough and died. After a few thoughtful moments (disguised panic) I discovered the #6 plug wire was not snapping onto the plug. A quick readjustment and it was running fine with no problem and I was on my way to Golden.

Once again, Corvairs were the largest gather-ing. In attendance from PPCC were Jim and Kathy Green, Chris Kimberly, Mary-Ellen & Dave Feasel, and myself. As usual there were quite a few spectators admiring the cars and striking up conversations with the club mem-bers. Paul Seyforth won the unofficial Hard Luck award for fan belt that was near failure. But no worries, Paul, with the help of many observers, quickly had the new belt installed. Save that belt for the Fan Belt Toss! Things start to get busy as we move through April and into May. Be sure to check out the Activities Calendar in the Drip Line and the Event Calendar online so you don't miss any-thing. Finally, let me welcome our newest members, Chris and Kathy Green. I had the pleasure of getting better acquainted with them, and their 1968 Monza, while we were in Golden. I hope to see all of you on the road this sum-mer. Drive Safe. Randy

Our very own Ed Halpin is a candidate for the Western Division Board of Directors. He has been serving as interim director but is now on the official ballot. Check out his nomination statement in the latest issue of the Communique and be sure to vote. Ed will make a fine director and repre-sent the Western Division well. This year you can vote online at corvair.org or mail in your ballot. See the Communique cover for details. Thanks, Randy

Bits of News

As we wrap-up our 2016 Membership Drive, I wanted to Welcome Back all of our current members who renewed their affiliation with the PPCC for another year. Several of those folks have been in this Club for almost 40 years, including John Glusick, Dee Glusick, John Koll, Steve Goodman, Bob Gilbert, and Terry McKenna [I apologize if I missed nam-ing any one with 30+ years in the Club]. While we may not get a chance to see our “charter” members at every meeting, we do appreciate their continued support as we keep the Corvair story alive! Thank You! I also wanted to Welcome all of our new, and returning, members, both in and out of state! We’re looking forward to getting to know you, and your car(s) over the next year, and encour-age you to be active and involved in the hobby. We like to have fun with the cars, and want to see you out enjoying yours as well. Hope to see you all at the next meeting on April 17th! Ed Halpin Membership Chair

No Room in the Garage For A Greenbrier?

Wayne Russert found a way for you to get your van on, and still keep a parking space in the garage. A neat Corvair diecast model, brought to us by www.diecastdirect.com Let’s hope they spelt “Greenbrier” correctly on the model itself

Hello Everyone, The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Express and rooms are going fast, so make those reservations before may 2nd to get the Tri-State discount rate of $99 per room (+ tax). The hotel is pet friendly and the rate includes free breakfast. The hotel will be blocking off part of their parking lot just for the Corvairs so we do need an approximate count of those coming in. Since there are a lot of other things happening in Montrose, and the nearby area that weekend, folks need to get their reservations in early. We will be having our cookout/banquet at the hotel as well, so we are asking participants to pre-register, for food ordering purposes. We’ll still be collecting the money when folks arrive, but we do need a close headcount of those attending the banquet. On the following pages of this newsletter, you’ll see a copy of the 2016 Tri-State flyer with hotel info, a copy of our on-line Pre-Registration Form, and a form for folks to pre-order a high quality commemorative T-Shirt, should they so desire. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 775-830-4739. Thanks, Chris Kimberly Tri-State Chairman

2016 Tri-State Planning Update

In anticipation of a great day of racing at the 2016 Tri-State in Montrose, CO, PPCC member, and all around Good Guy, Wayne Russert has volunteered to host a members-only “Valve Cov-er Racer Workshop” at his awesome workshop in Castle Rock at 10am on April 23rd (back-up date will be April 30th). Valve cover racing is simply the adult version of the old “Pinewood Derby” racing we all grew up with, where the use of gravity powered racers compete in head-to-head eliminations on a two-lane track. The kicker here; the cars have to be constructed using an actual Corvair valve cover. All racers competing in Montrose will adhere to the established CORSA “Guidelines for Corvair Valve Cover Racing”, which can be found on the PPCC website at: http://www.corvair.org/chapters/chapter809/tristate2016/valvecover.htm This is an opportunity for PPCC members and their families/guests to get together and have some fun, build a competition racer, and see whose design evolves from vision to victory! For folks who want to test their racing skills ahead of Tri-State, the Florence Car Show, being held on May 22nd, will have a track set up. More information will be sent out to the Club via the email distribution list as we get closer to the event, but if you have any questions, please feel free to call Ed Halpin at 303-619-0080.
