Graduates

FDM’s dedicated Recruitment and Events Team visits over 170 universities throughout Europe and North America every year.

We host presentations, CV workshops and technical and soft-skill seminars throughout the academic year in order to identify the best talent prior to graduation.

Ex-Forces

Ex-Forces individuals provide a different set of skills, gravitas and experience to enable us to enhance our offering beyond graduate-level. Across our UK centres we host workshops and presentations for ex-Forces personnel to inform them of opportunities with FDM.

Our recruitment process is focused on key attributes of ex-Forces personnel such as communication, flexibility and an intuitive understanding of team dynamics. We then work to translate these skills for a commercial environment. FDM works closely with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), an organisation that provides resettlement services to assist Service leavers with the transition to civilian life.

Bridging the gap between university or Armed Forces and commercial employment

The two-year Graduate and Ex-Forces Programmes are designed to equip individuals with technical expertise and commercial experience enabling fast-track career progression into the IT industry. The roadmap below is an illustration of the journey that our Consultants undertake. Once they complete the programme, the sky is the limit.

FDM’s business model explained

FDM’s award-winning training is free of charge to graduates and ex-Forces personnel. In lieu of this, they agree to commit to work for FDM for a period of two years. This commitment not only allows FDM to provide guaranteed continuity of service to clients, but also the ability to scale at speed. Once the twenty-four month employment bond is complete, FDM Consultants can transition permanently onto client sites or can stay with FDM as Senior Consultants. FDM’s commercial arrangements are based on year one and year two billing charges and vary depending on client volume commitment and contract duration.

CHAMPIONING WOMEN IN IT

In the three months since Ciara has joined SG, she has become an invaluable resource and a contact point in supporting three major applications.

Head of Technical Service Management Asia, Societe Generale Group

Leanne happily goes the extra mile on any task and takes great pride in her work. She has had to present to senior management on a number of occasions and all have been very impressed with her. Leanne is the epitome of professionalism; she is always punctual, immaculately presented, very easy to work with and a great addition to the team. I don’t really know how I would cope without her.

The FDM Ex-Forces Programme focuses on transforming ex-Servicemen and women into professional IT and business Consultants. FDM is able to provide those with the aptitude and desire to work in IT with the essential skills needed to transition into successful careers in the industry.

We have partnered with British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS), a non-profit organisation working to support the ex-Forces community during their career transition. • By acknowledging the value that the ex-Forces community brings to FDM’s workforce, we pledge to promote that we are an Armed Forces friendly organisation, we seek to support the employment of ex-Forces personnel and aim to actively participate in Armed Forces Day

I am delighted with the relationship Virgin Money has developed with FDM. Not only have we connected from a cultural perspective and shared ideas, thoughts and initiatives that align to our EBO values, we’ve secured brilliant talent and attracted people to the North which is something I’m proud of.

Chief Operating Officer,Virgin Money

FDM has enabled us to connect with a new generation of talent, both graduates and ex-military. We look forward to evolving this relationship.

Head of IS, UK Global IS,National Grid

The calibre of people I have in my team from FDM is of a very high standard.

We have extremely high standards and not many meet them, but FDM has.

FDM Consultants are deployed across a vast range of roles, bridging skill gaps within existing teams, assisting new enterprises in getting off the ground, supporting growth areas and helping to deliver new services

A track record of success

The Challenge The Solution The Outcome

Bet365

bet365 is one of the world’s largest online gambling companies. It is therefore crucial for them to future proof their talent pipeline in order to stay ahead of the competition. bet365 face the ongoing challenge of recruiting graduates who are both technically strong and also keen to work with the company for the long-term in their location.

bet365 chose to work with FDM because of our experience in recruiting and training high-calibre graduates. They value the benefits of on-boarding FDM Consultants who are technically fit for purpose and who could potentially transition to permanent employees after the two-year bond with FDM is completed.

By working closely with bet365 hiring managers to understand their exact requirements, FDM has been able to source and select suitable candidates for interviews early in their training to ensure a good team fit. bet365 and FDM are now working in partnership across .NET Development and Testing. The feedback received has been excellent.

The Challenge The Solution The Outcome

FT.com

Having previously worked with the FT.com in providing Java, .NET and Testing services, the Financial Times approached FDM to provide Developers to support their internal Salesforce project team and fill the skills gap. They chose to work with FDM due to its track record of success with the FT.com.

FDM selected a team of Consultants who had successfully completed their Java Development training and, in conjunction with SalesForce.com, constructed an additional three-week tailored training programme to cover Salesforce, Apex, force.com and Visualforce.

Due to FDM’s experience and ability to work with a variety of clients to find a cost-effective and immediate solution, a team of highly competent and dedicated IT Consultants was assembled within a matter of weeks and deployed on-site with the skills needed to add value to the project team.

RESULTS THAT MATTER

15

Virgin Money

Virgin Money experienced a period of growth following the acquisition of Northern Rock, and as a result of developing a strategy that aligned to their quest to build a better bank that makes Everyone Better Off (EBO). Whilst an established model for IT and Change was in place, using a blend of permanent, contractor and partnership resource, they were faced with challenges when attracting, building and developing capability at the pace required. FDM provided a unique option that provided dynamic and enthusiastic IT and Management graduate talent alongside traditional methods of recruitment and temporary resource. Equally, the values of FDM very much align to Virgin Money’s EBO philosophy.

The Challenge The Solution The Outcome

FDM worked with Virgin Money to initially identify 15 Consultants for a requirement in the CIO and Change Delivery – both of which form part of the Chief Operating Office (COO) function within Virgin Money. These were found successfully in a relatively short period of time and started on-site in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. FDM’s recruitment and training expertise enabled Virgin Money to save valuable time and resource. This also meant contract resource was realigned and internal recruitment more flexible.

The initial 15 placements were a success and feedback has been nothing short of excellent. The FDM Consultants impressed Virgin Money management so much that interest within Virgin Money grew and another 12 FDM Consultants were placed shortly after, including two ex-Forces personnel. The FDM and Virgin Money partnership continues to grow with new and exciting initiatives, which further cement the relationship.

The Challenge The Solution The Outcome

Citigroup

Citigroup needed to re-engineer its Global Prime Finance technology platform. Part of the strategic review involved replacing the existing International Stock Record System and migrating all the data into a new/improved system. FDM Group was chosen for this project, tasked with delivering successful results within strict timescales. In order to meet the deadline, selecting the right team of Consultants was crucial.

Three experienced FDM Technical Team Leaders were assigned to the project, as well as a number of Java and .NET Developers. In order to retire the existing system, these teams worked on developing a new platform and several interfaces, as well as the enquiry and reporting functionality. The requirements were split into multiple projects, running concurrently, to make the best use of time.

FDM managed three teams that were integrated with Citigroup’s technical and business employees, as one seamless overall project solution. The blended mix of skills brought in by FDM Consultants led to a skills-transfer from the more senior Consultants to all project team members, delivering long-term benefits as well as keeping costs down.
