If case you haven’t heard, there’s a sea-change a-comin.’ This program is an in-depthdiscussion of the “suitability” versus “fiduciary”standard of care issue as it relates to life insur-ance producers, estate planners, investmentmanagers, and other financial service profes-sionals.
Topics include how the standards differ, what is expected of producers, and the appli-cability of FINRA Rules of Conduct to the sourceof funds used to purchase financial productssuch as life insurance and annuities.
The distinguished panel includes DickWeber, an authority on ethics and suitability;Ben Baldwin, Jr., recipient of the prestigiousLoren Dunton Award, presented by the NationalAssociation of Insurance and Financial Advi-sors (NAIFA), for significant contributions asan agent, author, leader, educator, and finan-cial planner; and John Olsen, expert onannuities and an outspoken advocate for suit-ability.
All three panelists are members of the FSPFiduciary Task Force charged with providingguidance to Society members on standards ofcare, suitability, and compliance with SEC regu-lations. Case studies on suitability and fiduciarystandards are included.
Attendees will get answers to these andsimilar questions:• How will a “unified fiduciary standard” affect
how I give advice?• How might any changes to the standard of
care rule impact my relationship with myBroker-Dealer?
• I’m a Registered Rep but generally don’t sellvariable products. Why should I care?
• Will my existing policies, procedures, anddisclosures protect me under the new rules?

For this current chapter year, our board pri-oritized and published the top two objectives: 1)Membership and 2) Quality Programs. So how didwe do?
Regarding chapter membership, we have ninenew members representing diverse disciplines —insurance, investments, law, and tax. New mem-bers are the lifeblood of this quality organization.Patrice Pirsch, CLU, FLMI, RHU, with the help ofher committee, has provided extraordinary leadership with member-ship. One would believe our Chapter’s value proposition has neverbeen stronger than it is today. We have seen it time and time again. Newmembers benefit from our Chapter and our Chapter benefits from newmembers. Thank you to everyone involved with membership!
Regarding programs, you have voted with your attendance. Ourprograms chair, John Vergamini, CLU, ChFC, in working with boardmember Al Kerkhove, JD, made it a goal to deliver national level pro-grams. Our meeting attendance is at an all-time high. When looking atour schedule of future meetings, this objective of national level meet-ings‚ will continue to be delivered. Congratulations and thank you!
In addition to these two important areas, we have had many othersuccesses and accomplishments by our board and committee mem-bers. Thank you for all of your time, energy, and hard work for thebetterment of our Chapter.
As I reflect on this year, it has been an absolute privilege to workwith so many talented people! It is also a privilege to be included aspast President‚ with the other 74 that have provided leadership beforeme. Moving forward, I look at this next step as more of a beginningthan an ending. My enthusiasm is extremely high for the future of ourGold Medal of Honor Chapter – The Omaha Society of FSP!
