Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the first issue of NAC College Close-up. I will be sending you several issues throughout the school year and keeping you updat-ed on events taking place at the Registrar and College Advisor’s office. I will also be highlighting some uni-versities in each issue as well as providing useful information regarding col-lege application.

The school year will go by quickly. You need to focus on your school work in or-der to maintain a good Grade Point Average (GPA). Don’t wait until the last minute and expect to catch up. With semester exams starting December 15th, you need to study hard especially if you’re not satisfied with your Quarter 1 grades. Your SAT exam grade is also important. An SAT exam is coming up on De-cember 6. Try to do your best and don’t get stressed. Check the back page of this issue for advice on how to prepare. On Sunday, November 23, we had the pleasure to invite representatives from Education USA at AM-IDEAST, who presented the Tomorrow’s Lead-ers Scholarship Program, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). This Scholarship Program is a MEPI initiative for capable and highly motivated high school seniors in the Middle East and North Africa. The program will provide four-year university scholarships and internship oppor-tunities at the American University in Cairo, American University of Beirut, and the Lebanese American University to students who have the potential to become leaders.
Participation in the program includes: travel, academic fees for four years of university at AUC, AUB, or LAU, a study abroad experience in the U.S., accident and sickness insurance, housing, and a monthly allowance during the school year.
Eligibility:
score of 490 (or equivalent on a similar test such as IELTS) that is less than two years old;
Deadline for submitting the application is December 1, 2014.

In addition to the previously mentioned scholarship, AM-IDEAST also presented the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Pro-gram, which provides full tuition scholarships for Egyp-tian students who wish to pursue an undergraduate de-gree at Stanford University or the University of Chicago, in the fields that will promote the economic prosperity of Egypt. The Scholarship will be awarded based on charac-ter and merit as demonstrated through academic excellence,
extracurricular activities and entrepreneurial initiative. It will include full tuition, living allowance, travel and health insurance.

SAT EXAM PREPARATION
NAC Model United Nations (MUN) is recruiting high school students who are in-terested in participating in o r g a n i z i n g th e f i r s t NACMUN conference which will be taking place in late March 2015.
