of the ESE students who joined in the day.
COLLEGE BOUND MALES CBM (College Bound Males) hosted their last
luncheon for the year in April. Guest speakers
were Mr. Erdley Bent, President and CEO of Infini-
ty Technology (APHS Alumni 81), and his brother
Mr. Michael Bent, Executive of Enterprise IT
Solution Architect General Dynamics Information
Technology (APHS Alumni 82), along with Andrae
Williams of the Avon Park Corrections
Department. Each guest speaker encouraged the
young men of CBM to stay focused, challenge
themselves, meet high expectations both
academically and socially, and to complete college,
the military, or some other type of post graduate
training. The CBM members were a captive and
very attentive audience. Thanks to all who
participated in this program and all the others
throughout the school year.
STUDENTS MEET AUTHOR
APHS students who were attending the FBLA State
Convention in Orlando had the opportunity to listen
to guest speaker Dr. Sampson Davis. Dr. Davis is an
author who wrote the
book “We Beat The
Streets,” a book that CBM
members have been
reading and discussing as a
group. Student Joshua
Donald (center) and
Cedric Bullard (left) had
the chance to have their picture taken with Dr. Davis
(right) after the event.

‘YOU MATTER!’ The members of the APHS National
Honor Society chose to do a ‘You
Matter!’ campaign this year as the club’s
yearly service project. The goal was to
put a handwritten card in each student’s
hand with a positive message. The
project took hundreds of hours for them
to complete, and the cards were
delivered to the individual students
during their Advisement classes.

SENIORS SIGN FOR COLLEGE APHS soccer player Miranda Bustos signed a scholar-
ship to play for Webber International University in
Babson Park. After
college she plans to
commission into the
military as an officer
and wants to join the
Marines. Pictured
(from left to right): Grandmother Faye Hobbs; Mother
Ashley Rodriguez; Brother Adam Bustos; Miranda;
Father Adan Bustos; and Step-Mother Ashley Bustos.
Two of AP’s best runners signed scholarships to run
cross country and track for Montreat College in
Montreat , North
Carolina. Congratula-
tions to Dylan Branch
and Amy Schlosser.
Dylan Branch finished
fourth at the Class 2A
State Finals in cross country this year, and has been
selected as the Highlands News-Sun All-Highlands Boys
Cross Country Runner of the Year the past four years.
Pictured (from left to right): Brother Tristan; Coach
Chet Brojek; Mother Erin Sapp; Dylan; and Coach Lee
Pearson.
Amy Schlosser was
faced with a huge
decision of going to
the University of
Florida and not being
able to run, or Montreat where she will be a part of the
cross country and track teams. She had eight colleges
looking at her, but only two for running, the others
were academic. She will graduate from high school with
her AA, is Miss Highlands County, won the state FBLA
contest for interviews, and is active in FFA. Pictured
(from left to right): Pastor Jon Beck; Coach Chet
Brojek; Father Kim Schlosser; Amy; Mother Nicole
Schlosser; and Coach Lee Pearson.
Branch and Schlosser will go to Montreat in July to be
assistants at the summer camp for a week, and then
start school in August.
APHS senior Jeston Mason signed to play volley-
ball at Milligan College in Tennessee. Mason
chose to attend
Milligan College
in the fall to
pursue a degree
in Min i s try
L e a d e r s h i p .
Since there isn’t a men’s volleyball offered in
Highlands County at the high school level, he got
his experience by playing beach volleyball
tournaments every summer. Mason also played
soccer all of his life, playing with APHS the past
four years. He plans to try-out for soccer at
Milligan as well. He will graduate from high
school with his AA from SFSC. Pictured above
