Excellence in LearningWeek 11 Term 1 11 April The newsletter for Wallabadah Public School & its community Welcome to the final week of term 1! Wow, how the term has flown. The final week has been super busy with children involved in a number of educational, fun and entertaining activities. We started the week with the wonderful World of Maths. We welcomed 130 students from the surrounding Liverpool Plains Small Schools Group to Wallabadah for an engaging skill building day of Mathematics. The students rotated during three sessions and were involved in hands on, creative activities. The World of Maths activities were challenging and thought provoking and required the use of a variety of problem solving strategies. The students were involved in measuring and making Wallabadah Soup, shopping and building skyscrapers. They hit targets, threw straw javelins and explored the tessellating shapes throughout the school. One comment was Is this really maths?’ ‘This is so much fun! The children all interacted in the playground and their behaviour was exemplary. The P & C cooked a magnificent morning tea and lunch for the students and staff, which certainly added to the fun day. Thank you to all students, staff and the P &C for a magnificent day of Mathematics. Thursday saw our Easter Celebrations. We certainly celebrated in style with children proudly marching in our Easter Hat Parade. There were chickens and eggs, bunny ears and cotton tails. The students and of course parents imaginations ran wild and the creativity was fabulous. Our year six students looked a little sombre in the knowledge that this potentially may be their last Easter Hat Parade. Our Easter celebrations con- cluded with a very yummy Easter Egg Hunt through the school grounds. The smiles were plenty and the chocolate covered faces were a strong indicator that the students enjoyed this special annual Wallabadah event. Wallabadah students and pre-schoolers lining up ready for the…. BIG EASTER HUNTANZAC Day will fall during the school holiday break this year. On the 25th April we would love to see as many Wallabadah students as possible representing our school at the Quirindi ANZAC Parade. I am unable to make the March this year, however Mrs Saunders will be there to March alongside our students. Our school leaders will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph and pay their respects. At school, the students have been busy learning to sew and with the kind assistance of Mrs Jeannie Webb and Mrs Tina Pursehouse, the children have made red poppies. The poppies they will wear at the ANZAC Ceremony and it will be a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many. I hope you are able to make this important community event. I wish everyone a Happy Easter and a safe holiday break. Johanna Teague

Welcome to the final week of term 1!

Wow, how the term has flown. The final week has

been super busy with children involved in a

number of educational, fun and entertaining

activities.

We started the week with the wonderful World of

Maths. We welcomed 130 students from the

surrounding Liverpool Plains Small Schools Group

to Wallabadah for an engaging skill building day of

Mathematics. The students rotated during three

sessions and were involved in hands on, creative

activities. The World of Maths activities were

challenging and thought provoking and required

the use of a variety of problem solving strategies.

The students were involved in measuring and

making Wallabadah Soup, shopping and building

skyscrapers. They hit targets, threw straw javelins

and explored the tessellating shapes throughout

the school. One comment was ‘Is this really

maths?’ ‘This is so much fun!

The children all interacted in the playground and

their behaviour was exemplary. The P & C cooked

a magnificent morning tea and lunch for the

students and staff, which certainly added to the

fun day.

Thank you to all students, staff and the P &C for a

magnificent day of Mathematics.

Thursday saw our Easter Celebrations. We

certainly celebrated in style with children proudly

marching in our Easter Hat Parade. There were

chickens and eggs, bunny ears and cotton tails.

The students and of course parents imaginations

ran wild and the creativity was fabulous. Our year

six students looked a little sombre in the

knowledge that this potentially may be their last

ANZAC Day will fall during the school holiday

break this year. On the 25th April we would love to

representing our school at the Quirindi ANZAC

Parade. I am unable to make the March this year,

however Mrs Saunders will be there to March

At school, the students have been busy learning to

sew and with the kind assistance of Mrs Jeannie

Webb and Mrs Tina Pursehouse, the children have

you are able to make this important community

World of

Maths Day

On Monday the 8th of April 2019 students from

Spring Ridge, Willow Tree, Blackville, Walhallow, all

came to Wallabadah to celebrate World of Maths

Day.

We were split into groups, Stage 1, stage 2 and Stage

3. Kindergarten, year 1 and Year 2 were in stage 1.

Years 3 and 4 were stage 2 and I was in stage 3

because it was years 5 and 6. We were the split into

even smaller groups. We were put in groups with

shapes. I was in the blue squares.

A lady named Lillian was the World of Maths

convenor. She bought all the cool activities and the

Stage 3 group got to use her activities first. Lillian’s

activities were all hands on. We also had outside and

inside activities. Some were a bean bag at the target

and you add your points up. We made skyscrapers

and loads more. My favourite was throwing the bean

bags at the target, because I kept getting bullseye

and hitting the red.

All the activities were awesome. We had so many

activities I couldn't keep up with the time because

we were having too much fun.

The day was actioned packed and very inclusive. It

was a great day and I wish every day was like it. –

Ashton Sweeney.

What a wonderful time

had by everyone at our

Easter Celebrations.

The hats were colourful

and creative and the

smiles and laughter

were everywhere. Well

done boys and girls and Happy Easter!

Next term student are to wear their full winter

uniforms, Grey shirts and pants for boys with

grey socks and tie. Girls are to wear white shirts,

green checked tunic, green stockings and tie.
