IIM Alumni Associaon to help GTU in
improving MBA program: 7 groups gives
recommendaons
Ahmedabad: Dr. Charles M. Savage,
President, Knowledge Era Enterprising
Internaonal from Germany advised Gujarat
Technological University (GTU) to bring
lessons of Nachiketa and Mundaka
Upnishada in MBA program. He said that
students should be made free from greed
and self-interest. Although corrupon is a
huge challenge world over, but we are
facing urgency (30 year window) on the
front of Low Carbon Global Economy. Focus
on this topic is need of the hour.
He was speaking at Internaonal seminar on
Designing a New MBA Program for GTU at
Chandkheda campus of GTU on 14th
March,
2016. He said that Automaon Technology i
4.0 is changing scenario of industries.
Internet of Things can change business
dynamics. We must think over how we can
reconstruct our life. Bring Digizaon,
Sustainability and Wisdom into acve
dialogue. Turn MBA educaon into an Eco-
preneurial Business. Learning community
must be acvely engaged in co-creang Low
Carbon economy. Instead of Make in India
implement WISDOM in India. He advised
to make MBA program SMARTWIZATION i.e.
SMART, WISE and DIGITIZATION. The world
is moving in the direcon of STEM i.e.
Science, Technology, Engineering &
Management.

Earlier GTU has 130 MBA instutes, but
within last 5 years the numbers has been
decreased to 81 because of non-availability
of students. The Seminar was organised by
GTU for discussing how to create balance
between demand and supply of MBA
students in industry, said Dr. Rajesh
Khajuria, Director, SMJVs CKSV Instute of
Management & Chairman, Global MBA
Program, GTU. He recommended that
nishing School must trains students on: 1.
Business Equees, 2. Spreadsheets (MS
Excel), 3. Foreign Languages, 4. English
Communicaon, 5. Quantave Techniques.
Dr. S.O.Junare, Director, Shri Jairambhai
Patel Instute of Business Management and
Computer Applicaons, Gandhinagar And
Jagdish Joshipura Director of Somlalit
Instute of Management also give
recommendaon AND Dean, Faculty of
Management, GTU recommended to add
new topics like retailing, online markeng
and e-commerce in MBA curriculum.
Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of GTU
said that we are trying to teach too much
than require. There must be linkage in the
small businesses and small industries with
academia. We have to make eorts in that
direcon. There should be an acve and
connuous engagement on the way of
industry linkage. A learning management
system must be generated in every college.
We have to develop syllabus which takescare of all the issues concerning industries.
We must ask to students to write small
reports and sit with them to correct their
errors. An MBA is supposed to be a change
Agent.
Dr. Arvind Khode from IIMA Alumni
Associaon said that MBA is an applied
educaon. So strong social skills atude are
required besides sound academic
background. Simply knowledge-based MBA
person is not acceptable in industries.
Knowledge must shi from theorecal to
experienal. There should be update in
knowledge of recent developments in him.
MBA person must be modern, research
based and technically sound. He must be
job-ready with so skills in business, verbal
and wrien communicaons. He must be a
team builder, movator, inspiring having
skills of leadership and interpersonal
relaonship. He must have persuasive
presentaon skills, professionally acve on
Social sites. MBAs are looked upon as Extra
ordinary, Proacve, Out of box thinker, Idea
generator, Strategist, Analycal, Problem
solver, Decision maker, Innovave & Leader.
Prashant DuaGupta, and Doctor Jyot from
the same associaon also expressed their
opinions. Now MBA is not like in Gujara
sentence Mane Badhu Avde chhe [I know
everything]. Industry also expects skills of
modern tools in him.
Kamal Tavri of Addional Acon & Peoples
planning, Policies Commission also
presented his recommendaons to improve
MBA Program. Dr. Mitesh Dadania, Deputy
Director GTU presented Vote of Thanks. He
said that in the year 200809 AICTE
sanconed intake of all technical courses
was 17 lakh, while registered industry intake
was 261 lakh. In the year 2012-13 the
sanconed intake reached 34.5 lakh, while
registered intake was 483 lakh. So there isno issue of placement. We have to change
mindset of our students and make them
industry-ready.

parcipatory approach towards the creaon
of community based assets of the village
stakeholders with the involvement of the
students of the designated colleges, thereby
promong and providing environmental
sustainability in coherence with the
Millennium Development Goals. Keeping in
mind the above factors the present study
tries to draw the aenon towards
sustainable soluons for village
development.
Vishwakarma Yojana would provide Design
to Delivery soluon for development of
villages in Rurban areas. Thedevelopmental work in villages that could
under taken as per the need of the village in
parcular includes Physical infrastructure
facilies (Water, Drainage, Road, Electricity,
Solid waste Management, Storm Water
Network, Telecommunicaon & Other),
Social infrastructure facilies (Educaon,
Health, Community Hall, Library, Recreaon
Facilies & other) and renewable energy
(Rain water harvesng, Biogas plant, Solar
Street lights & Other) for Sustainable
development. It is proposed to frame
Vishwakarma Yojana to provide the
benet of real world experience to
engineering students and simultaneously
apply their technical knowledge in the
development of infrastructure in Villages.
The Project successfully completed Phase-I
with 68 villages and Phase II with 187
villages during 2012-13 & 2013
-14
respecvely Success of phase I& II has led
GTU to include 232 Villages in Phase III
during 2015-16. Vishwakarma Yojana is
planning for future of Gujarat and
simultaneously the young engineers are
geng chance to take real world experience
and nding soluon for Rural development
which can reduce the migraon rate &
Urban pressure.
The main focus was the quality
improvement with village development
which is major problem facing because of
unskilled labor and providing alternave
design soluon by using advance technology
and to solve the sanitaon problems by
enhancing the waste management
techniques for 242 villages Gujarat State.
(2) 500 Colleges, 500 Villages:
Under central governments Sansad Adarsh
Gram Yojana (Parliamentarians Model

village by 2016. The proposed Sansad
Adarsh Gram Yojana of the Central
Government aims to involve MPs more
directly in the development of model
villages. In the same line, Gujarat
Technological University has also iniated a
pilot study of model villages located in
Gujarat. The main aim of this study is to nd
out the parameters of a model village; to
develop a case study on model villages of
Gujarat showcasing their achievements and
to set examples for the other developingvillages which are sll developing to become
a model village.
(3) NSS: Naonal Service Scheme is
popularly known as NSS. NSS Moo of NSS
is Not Me but you. The moo conveys self
-less service & gives message that an
individual must be society centered. NSS
aims at Student Community linkage to
enhance the standard of living via socialservice NSS Program started in year 2012-13
in GTU with only 2000 volunteers and in
year 2014-15 Government of Gujarat has
sanconed 11000 NSS volunteers vacancies
to Gujarat Technological University, in year
2015-16 total 9500 volunteers have been
joined NSS GTU from various instuons of
Gujarat state.
(4) The Bridge Course:
The Bridge Course is
aimed to act as a welcome for the incoming
students of the rst year degree
engineering, with an objecve to provide
adequate me for the transion to hard-
core engineering courses. This course is
design for four weeks under specic
structure. During this interacon of four
weeks with the faculty and their classmates,
the students have been equipped with the
knowledge and the condence needed to
take on bigger challenges as future
engineers of this country.
In the Academic Year 2015-16, the structure
of the Bridge Course has been covered
under four major heads. Those are Village
Visit (5 days), Learning
Engineering (7 days), History of Science and
Technology (5 days), and Life

Technology, which will be used in Gi city to
make it zero waste city. This was disclosed
by sciensts in a workshop held at Gujarat
Technological University on 5th
March, 2016.
Research and Consultancy Services Cell,Gujarat Technological University (GTU) &
PG Research Centre for Governance
Systems, GTU In associaon with Facilitaon
Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies
(FCIPT) of Instute for Plasma Research
(IPR) organised a Seminar on Plasma
Technologies on March 5th, 2016 at GTU
Chandkheda Campus. Dr. Akshai Aggarwal,
Vice Chancellor of GTU gave movaon to
students. He told that it is great to be
Indian. Believe in yourself. You are not less
than any other students of the world. You
are the person who can do something that
helpful to society. He advised students to
learn the lessons of latest technologies.
Dr. Dhiraj Bora, Director of IPR said that,
we are discussing the innovave and
eecve waste disposal plan withMunicipal Corporaons to implement it in
their region. India is producing more than
1.4 lakh tons Municipal Solid Waste per
day. This includes plasc waste of around 10
-20 %. Bio-medical waste produced from
hospitals is the most dangerous waste.
Thermal Plasma Technology is ideally suited
for waste treatment. IPR has made a system
disposing 15 kg per hour suitable for 300
bed hospital. We have installed similar
system at Gujarat Cancer Research
Hospital.
World is facing two challenges: energy and
environmental. Both are co-related. At
present 75 % energy is being produced from
fossil fuel, rest energy is being produced
through non-convenonal sources. Fossil
fuel will not last longer. As development is
increasing, demand of energy is increasing
and cleaner technology is need of the hour.
For the rst me in India IPR is making
research on Fusion Technology. It is Green
source of energy and it is future
technology, he added.
Dr. S. Mukherjee, head of FCIPT said that,
Surface engineering is a part of our daily
life. Using it we have developed Angorawool. We have used the technology at Kullu,
Gi city to become zero waste
by using Plasma Technology

which is worlds rst Plasma treated plant.
IPR is using Plasma Nitriding in enhancing
component life. Plasma technology is also
used in seed and Nano paern based
sensor, pescides and forensic science. It is
also used to clean breathing air and in
water puricaon. He gave example of
how a pen sized instrument with plasma
technology can be helpful to stop bleeding
in wounded person. How the technology is
helpful as a stain remover.
Dr. S K Nema, IPR talked about waste
disposal Plasma pyrolysis and gasicaon.
He said that, in waste disposal methodburning is dangerous to human being. In
Plasma Technology hazardous and toxic
compounds are broken down to element
constuents due to high temperature. Dr.
K. N. Sheth, Director (Operaons) Adani
Instute of Infrastructure Engineering and
Dean (Advancement, Alumni aairs and
Interdisciplinary Research), GTU expressed
his opinion. Prof. Rajnikant Patel, Hony.
Director, Graduate School of Smart Cies
Development and ADVISOR (Research and
consultancy Service cell), GTU presented
vote of thanks.
Second session was chaired by Prof. Shri
Rajnikant Patel, Advisor, GTU. Ms. Nisha
Chandwani talked about Plasma texle
applicaons, while Dr. M Ranjan, IPR thrown
light upon Nanopaerning, nanoparcle
and its applicaons. Ms. A Joseph, IPR
talked about Surface hardening by plasma
nitriding, while Dr N Jamnapara, IPR
discussed about Collaborave R&D on
plasma technologies and funding
opportunies.

Today what is there, will change tomorrow.
Sustainability is the major part of the
process. So we are talking aboutinnovaon. We have the largest market &
the largest number of working class people.
Only missing part is technology. Unl we
empower ourselves with technology, we

television took 13
years, internet
took only 4 years,
while Facebook
took only 4-5
months. Media
survived only because it changed with me
and understanding the slogan of Content is
the King. Once upon a me, Vikram
Sarabhai called Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and
C.K. Prahlad at Ahmedabad and took them
to Gujarat University and expressed his
wish to develop the best educaonalinstutes within two mile area. He had a
dream to develop Ahmedabad as a
Knowledge City. Today we have IIM,
Plasma Research Instute, ISRO, Physical
Research Laboratory, NID etc. top class
instutes. Need of the hour is how we
impart high quality educaon, Shri Ajay
Umat, Editor of Nav Gujarat Samay said.
Educaon is an area which does not
remain unchanged. Today world over there
are so many challenges faced by technical
educaon. Huge expansion is going on in
the educaon eld. Increasing cost of
educaon is a problem. Need of the hour
is quality educaon at low cost. We have a
long way to go. We must remember that a
University is tested every day in its
laboratories and class-rooms. It is only the
excellence achieved by our students,
researchers and Faculty Members, in their
work that can make the University great.
This requires hard work, this requires
dedicaon and commitment by the
management and this demands connuous
and disciplined work from the students,
Dr. Dr. Akshai
