Salary Range: $24,756-$36,577Full-Time PositionNon-Exempt The City of Whiteville is seek-ing to fill the position of Utili-ties Maintenance Worker. This position performs a variety of responsible unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work on water and sewer lines and appurtenances. Also involves operating a variety of tools and light and medium equipment to build, repair, and replace section of water and sewer lines. Em-ployees are subject to working in both inside and outside en-vironments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving me-chanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. Employees are also subject to working in water or sew pipes and manholes; work around raw sewage is also sub-ject to the final standards of OSHA on bloodborn pathogens. Employees are also subject to on-call and callback work.
This person must possess a minimum of a valid Class B North Carolina Commercial driver’s license with tanker en-dorsements. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to ability to read and write and some experience in semi-skilled maintenance or construction work, which pro-vides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is required. Development Incentive Grant For A Planned Expansion of Black’s Tire
Service Columbus County proposes to appropriate and expend County funds for the following Economic Development projects pursuant to North Carolina General Stat-ute 158-7.1. The Columbus County Board of Commissioners intends to consider entering into an Eco-nomic Development Incentive Grant Contract with Black’s Tire Service for an expansion. The County will make annual cash incentive grants pursuant to the County Economic Development Incentive Grant Policy, begin-
ning in the first quarter of 2021, following the payment of 2020 property taxes. Pursuant to the policy, the amount of each year’s grant will be based on ac-tual tax base investments made. The investment proposed totals $3,173,000 over the next 5 years and involves the creation of 26 new jobs. The Board of Com-missioners believes this grant will total $61,509, payable over a five-year period as investment is made. The County will fund the payments from available revenues in the County General Fund. The Board of Commis-sioners believes this project will help stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs.The Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed appro-priation and expenditure of funds on Monday, August 19, 2019, at 7:00 pm, in the Commissioners’ Chambers, Dempsey B.
