Glenn A, Brumbaugh How about this weather? We have been truly blessed with a warm and sunny spring that is now fading into the summer season, that laid-back time of the year when our thoughts turn to warm vacations and outdoor activities. Often a time when we travel to visit love ones or spend some time enjoying the beach or mountains in the glorious sunshine and warmth of the awesome Pacific Northwest summer. In our worship time, we find ourselves in “Ordinary Time,” that time between Pentecost and Advent when we just march our way through the Lectionary, or if the pastor is ambitious, maybe take up a focused series of sermons on a particular topic or scripture. Last summer we explored the Book of Ruth, and this year my goal is to tackle a more daunting task, a series on The Book of Revelation during the later part of July and August. The more relaxed pace of the summer months can also lead us to reflection and contemplation, whether basking in the sun on the beach, or floating down the river. As we find our minds wandering, let’s also be intentional to make our journey together as a community of faith one of the topics of our reflection. How can we as Christ’s body minister differently to the community around us? What new ways can we engage the people of Seattle to shine the light of Christ into the lives that would benefit from the love, compassion and support that can be found in our midst? I hope and pray that the Spirit will work in our lives to lead us down new paths to find ways to re-imagine what the church is and can be in the changing times in which we live. May you have a blessed summer! In Christ’s peace always, Pastor Glenn Photo by Glenn Brumbaugh

PASTORS REFLECTION

by Rev. Glenn A, Brumbaugh

How about this weather? We have been truly blessed with a warm and sunny spring that is now fading into the summer season, that laid-back time of the year when our thoughts turn to warm vacations and outdoor activities. Often a time when we travel to visit love ones or spend some time enjoying the beach or mountains in the glorious sunshine and warmth of the awesome Pacific Northwest summer.

In our worship time, we find ourselves in “Ordinary Time,” that time between Pentecost and Advent when we just march our way through the Lectionary, or if the pastor is

ambitious, maybe take up a focused series of sermons on a particular topic or scripture.

In Christ’s peace always,Pastor Glenn

Michael Stern is a Seattle singer/songwriter who has been creating inspiring music of peace, justice and compassion since the 1970’s. His performances move audiences with original lyrics and melodies that can be thought provoking, humorous, romantic and spiritual. Come prepared to laugh, cry, be challenged, and to sing-along. Mike performs in a wide variety of venues including folk festivals, churches, schools, and for groups such Fellowship of Reconciliation, Hiroshima to Hope and the World Friendship Center in Hiroshima. Mike’s songs have been used by the Brooklyn Women’s chorus, Habitat for Humanity and the Hiroshima Peace Choir. Two of his songs can be found in Rise Again Songbook (the sequel to Rise Up Singing). Generations of listeners have been empowered by Mike’s songs with messages that matter. He has recorded 11 albums. Learn more at www.mikesongs.net

Mike will be joined by an extraordinary pianist, Stephen Jacob. Stephen composes original instrumental music that touches the heart and soul. MAPLE LEAF SUMMER SOCIAL JULY 17th

Maple Leaf Community Council will be hosting their 24th annual Summer Social at 6:30 pm, on July 17th, 2019. The event will take place at the Maple Leaf Park in the Family Terrace area next to the playground, near Roosevelt and 83rd st. in Seattle.

There will be musical entertainment and tables for local businesses and churches, Olympic View Community Church being one of them.

Volunteers to man the Olympic View table would be very welcome. A volunteer would need to know enough about this church to answer questions about Olympic View Community Church and hand out literature about the church and engage in some fun handouts and activities, yet to be announced.

Lots and Lots of Music!

THEME & ACTIVITIESSummer camp is an incredible place to ‘Grow’! During your time here at camp you will grow in a new skill, grow closer to new friends, grow in your independence and grow in your faith. Did we mention you will grow?

Day campers and overnight campers will be together from 8:00am-6:00pm each day.
