The IST Degree

Originally created in 2001Designed to be accreditable by ABET

Reasons for a redesign include:● A rapidly changing field● Faculty changes● Smaller than expected enrollments,

so courses could not be offered as often as intended

● Increase student flexibility

● Modernize courses○ security and information assurance○ virtualization and cloud

Consent

4 1-credit experiences, with subtitles like:

● Cyber defense team● WWW support● Networking support● Contest support● High school interaction● Community support● Certification preparation

Experiential Learning

Previously, a certification exam was required.

The new curriculum removes that requirement and requires a formal technical presentation.

Additional Requirements

● Department offers at most 4 IST courses per semester for major

● Degree can be completed in 4 years, starting with IST 126 in Spring of Freshman year

● Student may select any elective
