Who Needs a Learning Ecosystem in the Future?Too many people are unable to thrive in the current postsecondary education systemResources and funding are often geared toward the traditional 17- to 22-year-old college-going population and less often toward working adults, our growing, new-traditional student population.

If we solve for the pain points of our most vulnerable people, we will have created an ecosystem that can help all learners achieve meaningful careers and lives.

The New NormalSteve is at a crossroads… He doesn’t know where to turn.

How should Steve explore his fit for teaching or other new professions?

How can he find and secure a new job quickly without impacting his family?

What choices exist to protect his health? What are his funding options for further education?

The Need for a Learning EcosystemTogether, we must weave together the disparate factions that exist today and build new solutions that do not yet exist.

● Opaque● Duplicative● Siloed● Out-of-date

● Transparent● Efficient● Integrated● Tech-enabled

• Too many learners are faltering in the spaces between the disjointed pieces of the current system, unable to get relevant information, funding, advising, support, and skills training to navigate transitions.

• A structured ecosystem model can enable Strada to act as a more cohesive network internally while externally, we can partner across education, nonprofits, business, and government to drive systems-level change.

FROMCurrent State

TOFuture State

● Inequitable● Biased● Risk-averse● Rigid

● Equitable● Data-informed● Learner-centered● Seamless

Why a Learning Ecosystem metaphor?

• An ecosystem is a community of interconnected, interacting organisms and their physical environment—a network of living and non-living things.

The complexity of our situation demands an ecosystem-approach to the challenges that we face.

The time to build is now.

• A Learning Ecosystem is a network of learners, learning providers, funders, education technologies, policies, policymakers, and employers.
