THE COLLECTS - Proper 29 (Page 181 BCP) Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

REFLECTION FIRST LESSON: In our opening reading the Lord promises to be the

shepherd of the people.

FIRST LESSON (OLD TESTAMENT): Ezekiel 34:11-17

"Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock when some of his sheep have been scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the fountains, and in all the inhabited places of the country. I will feed them with good pasture, and upon the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on fat pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord GOD. REFLECTION THE PSALM: A call to worship the great God and Ruler, Creator of all

the earth. We are his sheep, the people of God’s pasture.

1. O COME, let us sing unto the Lord : let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation. 2. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving : and shew ourselves glad in him with psalms. 3. REFLECTION SECOND LESSON: In this lesson Paul describes the plan of the

resurrection age. It has begun with Christ’s rising from the dead and will be fulfilled

when all things are subjected to God.

In fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. "For God has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "All things are put in subjection under him," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things under him, that God may be everything to every one.

REFLECTION THE GOSPEL: Our Gospel presents a picture of the universal

judgment when the Son of Man, acting as judge and ruler, will separate humankind

into two groups: those who have a cared for the Lord in the needy, the stranger and

prisoners—and those who have not. On one level the evangelist intends those in need to

be understood as Christian disciples. But the bringing of all peoples into judgment has

caused Christians to realize that the Christ is to be recognized in every individual.

Beneath this awareness lies, a profound theological mystery: the likeness of God, which

has been decisively revealed in the human person of Jesus, may be perceived in every

human being.

Jesus said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, `Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Bidding Prayer

For the spirit of love and service, let us pray to the Lord.

Grant to the Church light to know the will of God and grace to perform it…Make all Christian people true followers of Christ in their lives day by day.

Fill the world with the spirit of compassion, that the powerful may use their power to help the weak…Break through the barriers that divide people and nations, and draw all together for the common good.

Give us deeper compassion, open our eyes to see the presence of Christ in all people…Grant us insight to know where we can give help in the needs of friends and neighbours and in all our community, and grace to offer it.

We pray for all who suffer, for the poor and hungry, for the sick and the homeless, for prisoners and those who have no one to care for them…Bring them relief in their misery and strengthen all who as individuals or organizations work for relief.

Have mercy on those who have passed from this world and come to judgement…Pardon their failures and receive them in the compassion of Christ…Grant mercy to us all when we are called to account at the end of our lives.

May our prayers be accepted in the name of Christ, our Judge and our Redeemer. Amen.

Organizations are asked to start their planning for next year. This is to facilitate a meeting of the Pastoral Committee.

Persons needing envelopes for 2015 are asked to give their names to the Rector. Thanks to all members who have adjusted to the monthly envelope system. This continues to be working well, as we have been able to reduce the cost of the envelopes and also the wastage. The persons responsible for the counting of money on Sundays are finding the job much easier.

We are in the process of assembling a tent to house the playground for the Day Care Centre. The tent has been donated by Mrs. Regine Sixt and her Charity “Drying Little Tears” will provide the equipment for the area.

Flower Show & Garden Festival 2015

The Garden Festival Committee is encouraged by your support and as we move steadily forward, the areas still available for sponsorship are listed below:-

1 Arrangement on the Landing (Upstairs) – approximately $800.00

4 Pillars approximately $150.00

We are also looking for sponsorship for newspaper and radio ads. The newspaper ad is approximately $1000.00 and the radio spots are approximately $250.00 per ad. Your participation in sponsoring either an arrangement or an advertisement for the festival is greatly appreciated.

Pink Sunday

The Third Sunday in Advent is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, with the lighting of the Rose Candle in the Advent Wreath. This year it is our intention to focus on the subject of Breast Cancer, which is a challenge for many women in our society and Church. It is hoped that we will use ‘Pink’ as the liturgical colour for the day; with the Mothers’ Union donating a pink chasuble to be worn by the Clergy on the day. Two pink stoles, matching Burse and Chalice Veil will be much appreciated. With members wearing pink to show solidarity and prayerful support of sufferers. This gives a wonderful opportunity to bring our liturgy in line with this important aspect of human life. I am asking for your support in making this a meaningful celebration.

Casual Sunday

The Sunday before Christmas, the Fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated as casual Sunday. We are invited to wear jeans and T/shirts.

St. Ambrose Church Feast of Title

The St Ambrose Church invites you all to its Feast of Title Celebration to be held on Sunday 7th December 2014 starting at 6:30 PM. The service takes the form of procession, Sung Eucharist with sermon. The preacher will be The Rev Joseph King priest in charge of St Cyprian's Church. We are having one service so all groups and

organisations are invited/expected to attend in uniform in support of the groups and

organisations at St Ambrose.

The Anglican Youth Ministry Council will be hosting a Sunset Concert to observe Holy Innocents Day on December 28, 2014. The theme for this concert is “Peace begins with Me”. The concert will be held at the Church Village Greens, Bridgetown St. Michael (adjacent to the Central Bank).

As with previous years, we are asking persons to bring items to be donated to a worthy cause. This year we have chosen the Barbados Mothers’ Union Breakfast Programme. The Mothers’ Union has been working tirelessly with this venture and we see this as an opportunity not only to foster a partnership with the Mothers’ Union but more importantly to help the nation’s children. We are especially asking churches to have collections done in their churches with a view to bring them to the concert.

We are inviting you and your members to join us at 5:00pm for the concert which will showcase talent of young persons across our Diocese.

The other guy says, "You idiot! How do you know we'll get the same boat?"
