THE NEW DEAL NEGATIVE EFFECTS

The New Deal wasn’t efficient or helpful and did NOT pull out country and its economy out of the Great Depression, as its purpose was, and could have possibly plunged us into a greater depression and DEFINITELY bigger federal debt.

o Compare current economy vs. the Great Depressiono Increased taxes no money to buy and invest in products

stops the circulation of moneyo Increased economy= the money going in and outo Encouraged segregation—how many white men got gov. jobs…

how about women and African Americans/Black?o Channeled money from the South, the poorest regiono Boosted poor farmers out of land loss of jobs in agricultural

areas—for white farmers & black tenement farmerso Effective short term expedient as an attempt to improve the

economy, but could not pull through a long-term solutiono Overstretch of executive powero Substantially financed the middle and lower classo 1 white man jobless out of every 20 blacks joblesso Drove Americans into povertyo Especially the lower class, who were already in deep poverty

increased poverty due to weak income and inability to afford products money doesn’t circulate

o Tripling of federal taxes from 1.6 billion in 1933 to 5.3 billion in 1940 taxed every day goods that the average Americans could not afford, simple things like butter

o Increased presidential power , took away the power of the people and the loss of freedom

o Possibly encouraged dictatorship, for example, it encouraged people like Hitler to become a dictator due to our government’s large takeover over the individual citizen’s lives on a daily basis
