Last Friday, 180 children from twenty London schools listened to inspiring speakers, who shared their career journeys at the Primary Careers Conference organised by Netley! The event, held at The Place, was hugely successful giving the children a taste of whats possible, if you believe in yourself and grasp every opportunity. The children, mostly from Year 5, were selected to aend as career champions with a mission to return to school and organise an event on careers for their school. The buzz of acvies and excitement on their faces proved that they had a very enjoyable and enlightening day. Feedback from the teachers was highly posive. This iniave was funded by the Richard Reeves foundaon and Camden Council. I am very proud that Netley has opened this opportunity for children, some of whom may not have been exposed to the range of careers showcased at the conference. I was disappointed that none of our parents aended the community safety meeng held in our school last night. I have asked Sir Keir if it would be possible for him to give us some me during the day to hear your concerns. I hope, however, that if such a meeng is organised that I will have the full support of our community. I hope you have a lovely weekend. On Friday twelve children from year five went to The Place for the Primary Careers Conference. As the Netley Careers Champions our job was to discover different career paths and bring back the skills and inspirational messages we learned from the many speakers.

We enjoyed hearing Junior talk about how to be confident and follow your dreams, he helped us to discover that ‘We Are Champions !’. We also enjoyed listening to Sofia talk about how she followed her dreams of being an artist by finding a job that involved art. She has now used her art to campaign and become an activist.

We got to meet lots and lots of people with different jobs and even got to make our own animation.

Network Rail HS2 enabling works

As per the latest works notification letter from Network Rail dated 11 September, there will be enabling works taking place this

weekend (5-6 October). Network Rail will be carrying out track replacement work and ballast removal in the approaches to the

station and a crane will be on site to carry out this work. Should you have any queries or concerns about these works, please contact the Network Rail 24 hour National Helpline on

03457 11 41 41.

HS2 surveys and investigations In addition we are carrying out surveys and investigations of the structures beneath the track level north of Mornington Street

Bridge. You can read or download the works notification leaflet here for more information about these works.

We need to carry out these works at times that cause the least disruption to train services, and for safety reasons when the trains are not running. We will keep noise to a minimum where possible

and noise monitoring is in place. If you have any questions about HS2 or our works, please contact

our HS2 Helpdesk team on 08081 434 434 or email [email protected].

Year 3

Our topic for this half term is Japan! We’ve been using our map skills to find out lots of information about Japan. We’ve found the biggest cities, the surrounding water and nearby countries.

Year 2 We went to Hampstead Heath for a den building workshop. We had so much fun working in teams building dens and we even had a go at

using fire starters to start mini fires! We also played in the adventure playground and thought about how we could use some of the ideas when designing our own playgrounds.

Year 5

We have been practising our written addition skills using place value counters to help us remember when we need to exchange. We did our working-out on large sheets of paper, with felt tips, so that we could help each other and work together.

Year 4

We have been singing this week! We can't get over how great we sound. Make sure you ask us to sing for you and in own private concert!

Year 1

In our Maths lessons, we have been learning about whole and parts. Can you ask us to explain this to you using a piece of fruit or a box of eggs?

Reception

We have been playing number games linked to our big book 'The Gingerbread Man'. Each time a player spins, we add either 0, 1 or 2 buttons to our gingerbread person. We needed 5 buttons in order to win! Questions we have been asking each other to extend our mathematical understanding include: "How many buttons do you have?" "How many more do you need to make 5 altogether?" "Which numbers have you landed on so far to make the total that you have now?" "Who is winning? How do you know?"

Woodlands

This week in Oak Class, we tested the balls we made from carrier bags. It turns out you need a lot of bags to make a really good ball!

Year 6

We have started a new text called ‘The promise’ and we are currently working on making a promise tree. Look at our beautiful origami leaves! We have been learning how to use modal

verbs for possibility and certainty and have written some promises we can keep to make the world a better place. We promise we WILL use less plastic and we COULD donate old toys and clothes. What do YOU promise to do to make the world a better place?
