Sunless TannersEnhance the efficacy of sunless tanners with Floraesters K-20W Jojoba (K-20W) and Floraesters K-100 Jojoba (K-100). Their film-forming properties help retain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) on the skin, increasing tan longevity. K-20W and K-100 also improve tanner application, resulting in a more even tan.

FORMULATION GUIDANCEin general

Floraesters K-100 Jojoba can be directly added to and dispersed within the oil phase, or predispersed with glycerin, glycols or alcohol. It is recommended that Floraesters K-20W Jojoba be predispersed with glycerin, glycols or alcohol. Both K-20W and K-100 can be predispersed at the following ratios:

• use K-20W at a 1:1• use K-100 at a 1:2 (K-100:diluent)

K-100 is designed to be used at 1/5 the usage level of K-20W.

clear water-based systems

Add a solubilizer to the predispersion. Once the solubilizer blend is uniform and free of gel bodies, add to the formulation prior to adjusting the pH.

clear hydro-alcoholic gel systems Without a standard neutralizer – Blend K-20W with a solubilizer. Mix until no gel bodies are present. Add a portion of the alcohol to the blend and mix. Finally, add remaining alcohol and then introduce to the polymeric system.

With a standard neutralizer – Blend K-20W with a portion of the alcohol. Mix until no gel bodies are present. Mix the polymeric system with the remaining portion of alcohol. Add the predispersion to the polymeric/alcohol system. Neutralize the polymer at the end of the formulation.

clear surfactant systems Add a solubilizer to the K-20W or K-100 predispersion. Once the solubilizer blend is uniform and free from gel bodies, add to the surfactant mix. The pH can then be adjusted for either low or high pH systems.

low ph systems Add the predispersion of the K-20W or K-100 at 50-60oC, after the emulsion has been created, but prior to adjusting the pH. K-100 dispersed within the oil phase can be heated to 75-80oC and mixed with the water phase for emulsification.

Polymeric systems – Add the K-20W or K-100 predispersion, after the emulsion has been created, but before neutralization of the polymer. NOTE: Depending on usage level, the predispersed K-20W or K-100 may partially or completely neutralize the polymer.

ph-sensitive ingredients – K-100 may require pH neutralization prior to introduction to the remainder of the system (e.g. antiperspirants).

neutralizing carbomers gel systems – Slowly add the predispersed K-20W or K-100 to the hydrated carbomer phase while mixing. NOTE: If clarity is required, add a solubilizer to the predispersion.

emulsion systems – Add K-20W neat wherever Triethanolamine (TEA) would typically be added.

additional systems – Fatty acids, acrylate crosspolymers, and polymer fixatives can also be neutralized using methods described above.
