Drive for 47 km north of Siem Reap by Remork (known as Tuk Tuk) to visit Banteay Srei, one of remote Angkor’s highlights.

This temple contains the finest, most intricate carvings to be found in Angkor. Located in a remote area the temple was rediscovered in 1914 and cleared some 10 years later. It was reconstructed

using the method of anastylosis by French conservator Henri March al during the 1930’s. Today the Banteay Srei is a very well preserved monument. Its exquisite ornamentations that cover most of the temple show great skill and

precision. Along the way to this temple, you will have the possibilities to

observe the typical Cambodian villages, and the daily life activities including the techniques of making Cambodian palm sugar. Stop at Preah Dach to see the Cambodian noodle street

vendors Continue to Banteay Samre temple, a temple at Angkor, Cambodia located east of the East Baray. Built under Suryavarman II and Yasovarman II in the early 12th century, it is

a Hindu temple in the Angkor Wat style.

Pean and Preah Khan if time permit. East Mebon and Pre Rup are both increasingly popular sunset viewpoints so although touring the

clockwise or anti-clockwise. Ta Som is a small temple, built at the end of the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII.

Neak Pean is an island temple sitting on a baray (reservoir) it is reached via a wooden walkway over the water. The temple itself is very small, taking only five minutes to look at.

Preah Khan, meaning the “sacred sword”, is the crowning jewel, with twisting tree roots that recall Ta Prohm but without quite so many bus loads, detailed carvings, a more impressive Hall of

Dancers than found at Ta Prohm or Banteay Kdei—Preah Khan has it all and it is easy to while away an hour here walking around and taking photos.

Instead of going all on National Road No 6, we take a detour to visit the gigantic water reservoir built by the Pol Pot regime forced labor, Ang Trapeang Thmor, a unique

wetland ecosystem giving home to over 200 bird species including the endangered Sarus Crane. The population of the Sarus Crane species in this area rose constantly within the last

years to a number of more than 300 birds today.

18 of the existing species in Ang Trapeang Thmor are being classified as globally or near globally threatened.

On the way stop at Phnom Srok Silk community, famous for producing silk and keeping the traditional ways

of growing fabric trees, silkworms feeding, spinning and weaving a high quality of Cambodian Golden Silk such as Som Putt Hole, Phar Mourng and Scarf (Krama).

Uniqueness of Khmer silk: Hand-made product that is produced with natural dye.

Silk producers: In Phnom Srok district there are approximately 700 families who formed a silk producer

community

DAY 6 – BANTEAY CHHMAR – TEMPLE EXPLORER [B/-/-]

the temple of my son. Banteay Chhmar, rarely visited temple to the Noth-West of Angkor, one of the provincial capitals of Jayavarman VII on the “Voie Royale”and

dedicated to his son and four generals who were killed in the battle repelling a Cham invasion in 1177. Banteay Chhmar, because of its secluded location, received a few

visitors only and waits to be discovered. Lunch on own account

This afternoon, take a local transport called Kor Yoan, a locally invented vehicle used to ferry heavy stuff in the bad road condition, to an ancient and forgotten ruin of Banteay Top temple, a

fascinating and interesting temple site. The name is thought to mean ‘Fortress of the Army’ and it was built during the same period as the Banteay Chhmar temple complex. It is believed to have been built as a tribute to the Khmer army for their defeat of the Cham army leading to Khmer control of the

region. The temple is located about 12 km south of Banteay Chhmar.

The homestay program is an important part of the activities in Banteay Chhmar. The homestays allow for our visitors to have a more authentic Khmer experience as compared to staying in a generic

guesthouse. The homestays help provide additional income for the families as well as improve their standing in the community.

This morning transfer to Bamboo Train station. The Bamboo train has been set up by the villagers to facilitate the transportation of goods. The train is very basic. One bamboo

platform on 4 wheels is activated by a small motor. Sitting on the platform, you will travel the 8 km to the next station through beautiful landscape and rice paddies. On arrival, visit the village

and discover the daily life of the Cambodian countryside.

Visit the village of Wat Kor, a very old traditional Khmer

house. It dates from 1920, you can exchange with the owner who will tell you the story of this house made of precious

wood, which has escaped from destruction during the Khmer Rouge. The village is typical of many houses of the Last Century, is home to fruit vendors and farmers who daily come

to the market to sell their crops. Then visit some of the ancient temples in Battambang Phnom Banon and Wat Ek Phnom.

Afternoon continue to visit Phnom Sampov. Phnom means “Mountain”

in Khmer. “Sampov” means ship. Phnom Sampeau is a striking limestone mountain and an important religious site known throughout all Cambodia. It is a pleasant place to visit despite its tragic past.





Especially the panoramic view from the top over the countryside is truly breath taking. On the top of the mountain you will see a pagoda and many stupas as well as various shrines and grottos. During the Khmer Rouge period the mountain was used as a place to kill the enemies of the regime. You will

see a memorial to the victims in the “killing caves”. Visit the bat cave, offers an amazing spectacle around 5pm.

visit Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and Cambodia National Museum.

Royal Palace was built in 1866 by the French. Among various buildings within the walls the Throne Hall ranks as most important. This Khmer-style building was erected only in 1917. It

is used only on special occasions. Attached to the Throne Hall is a tower, 59 meters high.

Silver Pagoda (or the temple of the Emerald Buddha), formerly a wooden building, was rebuilt in 1962 in concrete and marble. The pagoda is floored with over 5000 silver tiles each weighing 1 kilo. It

is famous for its 90 kg solid gold Buddha made in 1907 and an emerald Buddha said to be made of baccarant crystal.

Continue with the National Museum of Arts is to the North of the palace grounds, on the opposite side of 184th street. The building was designed in Khmer-style in 1920 by a French architect. The most important artifacts are sculptures from the Angkor era and before.

In the afternoon visit Tuol Sleng – S21 detention center and Cheung Ek Killing Field. The Phnom Penh’s most famous draws are the Khmer Rouge sites –

the Tuol Sleng (S-21) prison and Choeung Ek killing fields. These are an uncomfortable reminder of the trauma that Cambodia has been through in our lifetimes, and they are not easy sites to

visit, and some visitors choose to avoid these illustrations of the Khmer Rouge’s “government” of Cambodia.

Remainder of total cost can be paid at ASIA NATURAL TOUR (ANT) office in cash, credit card. Except for the cash payment, any levied charges for the telegraphic/electronic transfer or any

applied surcharges for credit card banking (3.5%) should be covered by the clients. Following the full payment, final voucher of services and related documents will be forwarded

by e-mail at a maximum of two weeks prior to guests’ home departure.
