~ Hodie Christus natus est pro nobis ~

Prayer to the Christchild in the Manger

O Divine Redeemer Jesus Christ, prostrate before Thy crib, I believe Thou art the God of infinite Majesty,

even though I do see Thee here as a helpless babe. I humbly adore and thank

Thee for having so humbled Thyself for my salvation as to will to be born in a

stable. I thank Thee for all Thou didst wish to suffer for me in Bethlehem, for

Thy poverty and humility, for Thy nakedness, tears, cold and sufferings.

Would that I could show Thee that tenderness which Thy Virgin Mother had

toward Thee, and love Thee as she did. Would that I could praise Thee with

the joy of the angels, that I could kneel before Thee with the faith of St.

Joseph, the simplicity of the shepherds. Uniting myself with these first adorers

at the crib, I offer Thee the homage of my heart, and I beg that Thou wouldst

be born spiritually in my soul. Make me reflect in some degree the virtues of

Thy admirable nativity. Fill me with that spirit of renunciation, of poverty, of

humility, which prompted Thee to assume the weakness of our nature, and to

be born amid destitution and suffering. Grant that from this day forward,

I may in all things seek Thy greater glory, and may enjoy

that peace promised to men of good will.

Amen.

Cell Phones

As on an airplane, cell phones “switched off” means “switched off”: not

silent-mode, standby, or anything else. Cell phones being activated

while an aircraft is taking off or landing may interfere with the flight

deck with disastrous consequences. They can also have deleterious

consequences for your and others’ spiritual progress, especially during

Mass.

Leaving a cell phone switched on – even in silent-mode with no-one

else in the Church – so as to check messages is effectively saying:

Excuse me God, but this could be important …

Prayers at the approach of christmas Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan Thou didst send a messenger to prepare people's hearts for the coming of Thy Son. Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

~ †~ Loving mother of the Redeemer, gate of heaven, star of the sea,

assist thy people who have fallen yet strive to rise again. To the wonderment of nature thou didst bear thy Creator,

yet remained a virgin after as before. Thou who didst receive Gabriel's joyful greeting,

have pity on us poor sinners.

Ember Days “The Wednesday, Friday and Saturday following the

first Sunday in Lent, Whitsunday (Pentecost), Holy Cross day (Sept.

14), and St. Lucy's day (Dec. 13), which are days of fasting for the

special sanctification of the four seasons, and for obtaining God's

blessing on the clergy, for whose ordination the Ember Saturdays are

specially set apart." (Catholic Dictionary) Note that ember days are of

very ancient origin (possibly dating back to apostolic times). It is

customary to fast and observe partial abstinence (meat once only) on

Ember Days, and observe the usual Friday full abstinence.

Stewardship Fair ~ Today, December 4th

Stewardship of our parish involves more than just tithing and financial

support. It consists of many active volunteers fulfilling a variety of

services and filling many needs. After each Mass today, you will have

opportunity to become informed of the number of categories of service

which are provided by parishioners, and you will also have an

opportunity to offer your assistance.

Page 8: The Nativity of the Lord - WordPress.com

Finding God through Faith and Reason resumes the regular schedule

this week (Dec 4). If you have missed a few classes, this is a good time

to re-join. The new section, A Posteriori Cosmological Evidence, will

be looking at evidence from science (Physics and Astronomy in

particular). This section specifically answers many of the questions

raised by people like Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, and Carl

Sagan.

Bible Timeline will resume next week (Dec 11), looking at The Divided

Kingdom - Part 2 (Judah).

Propers of the Mass: The missal texts for Sunday Masses are

available near the bulletins for those visiting or those who are without a

hand missal. With the texts now printed, the Epistle and Gospel will

no longer be read in the vernacular before the Sermon. Please return

the sheets after Mass.

Gregorian Masses for Archbishop Donoghue We have now collected sufficient stipends to offer the 30 consecutive

Masses. Thank you for your generosity. The Masses will be offered by

the Benedictine Monks at Clear Creek Monastery, OK.

Remember that you keep holy the Sabbath day. Six days you shall labor

and do all your works. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord

your God: you shall do no work on it. (Ex 20:8-10)

If you would enter into eternal life, keep the commandments. (Mt 19:17)

All Knights of Columbus are invited to our end-of-the-year party, a

celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, on Monday, December

12. Mass is at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner for Knights and their

families at 7:00 p.m. Please RSVP by 2:00 p.m. on December 11 by

signing the list on the K.C. bulletin board in the parish hall or by

sending a message to [email protected] (Please indicate

how many family members will be attending.)

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Thanksgiving food drive.

Thanks to your generosity, the Knights of Columbus delivered 400 lbs.

of food to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in Paulding County.

The Knights of Columbus will be serving a $1 breakfast after Low

Mass today. All proceeds will go to the K.C. "Coats for Kids" program,

helping to provide coats for poor children in Georgia.

The ‘Rorate’ Mass is the votive Mass of Our Lady in Advent. It will be

offered here on Saturday, Dec 11. The name is taken from the first word

of the Introit. The Mass is sung by candlelight, beginning before dawn

(representing the darkness before Our Lord’s entry into the world), so

that it ends in light. It is particularly beautiful, and well-worth the effort

of getting out of bed on a Saturday morning. As an additional incentive,

there will be a pot-luck brunch to follow.

When receiving Holy Communion, please remember to slightly

extend your tongue, and not simply open your mouth.

Cell Phones

As on an airplane, cell phones “switched off” means “switched off”:

not silent-mode, standby, or anything else.
