Theology on Tap for Young Adults: Brick Lounge, Madison June 28th 7-8:30 pm
Explaining the Church’s teaching on same-sex
desires in today’s world isn’t easy. Hesitation.
Embarrassment…Shame. Living the Church’s
teaching on same sex desires poses it’s own
challenges. Confusion. Hiding…Shame. In a culture
that too often politicizes before it personalizes, what
does it mean to live unashamed? Join us for an
interactive presentation from Eden Invitation on
receiving people in love and accompanying them in
truth. All of us - whether you’re explaining the
Church’s teaching or integrating it into your own
life - share in the same invitation before God and
others. Life unashamed.
SPEAKER BIO: Eden Invitation is a movement
celebrating personal integration and promoting
solidarity beyond the LGBT paradigm. Through
community and conversation, they invite young
Catholics to discover the fullness of personal
identity in Christ. Co-Founders Anna Carter and
Shannon Ochoa are based in Milwaukee, WI.
Shannon is a UW-Madison grad whose passion for
relational ministry brought her to college campus
ministry with the Evangelical Catholic and Brew
City Catholic. Anna earned her undergraduate
degrees in theology and catechetics from the
Franciscan University of Steubenville, following
which she worked as a NET team supervisor, high
school religion teacher, and campus minister.

ST. IRENAEUS
Can you imagine sitting at the feast of the Apostles?
St. Irenaeus was born in Asia Minor -- now Turkey --
and was tutored in Christianity by St. Polycarp,
himself a disciple of St. John the Evangelist. Irenaeus
caught the missionary zeal and became a
priest sent to Gaul (modern day France).
Following a persecution by the pagan
Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius,
Irenaeus replaced the martyred bishop in
the region. His trials were not over,
however. The heretical sect of
Gnosticism spread to Gaul. Gnostics
proclaimed a secret, spiritual knowledge
available only to a few. Irenaeus
researched the Gnostic texts and exposed
the falsehoods they taught, such as denying the
divinity of Christ. His book Against Heresies is still
being published today, over 1800 years after his
death. May St. Irenaeus intercede for our own quests
for greater understanding!
