The National Certification Body of Jamaica provides management system certification
services within Jamaica and the wider Caribbean through committed and competent personnel and a certification decision process
based on impartiality.
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL CERTIFICATION BODY OF JAMAICA (NCBJ)?
The NCBJ was established in April 2007 as the Certification Unit and a legal entity of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica.
The NCBJ has been given the mandate to offer certification of management systems.
WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF SERVICES OFFERED BY THE NCBJ ? The NCBJ offers services related to:
Certification to ISO 9001 Certification to ISO 14001
Future Offerings……. (local and international)
Certification to ISO 50001
FSMS – Food Safety Management System Certification (HACCP & ISO 22000)
ISO 9001 is the actual specification for QMS. It can be used irrespective of size or type of organization.
It is among ISO’s most widely known and successful series of standards ever.
ISO Survey – “Up to the end of December 2010, at least 1,109,905 ISO 9001certificates had been issued in 176 countries and economies.
Achieve Customer Satisfaction and continual improvement.
ISO 9001 has become an international reference for quality requirements in business dealings.
ISO 14001 is the specification for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

ISO 50001 is the specification for Energy Management Systems (EnMS).
Up to the end of January 2012, 100 organizations in 26 countries had received certification
Provides the roadmap for organizations which must meet energy management objectives
Achieves stakeholder satisfaction, continual improvement, energy efficiency and reduced costs.
Confirms global relevance for organizations wishing to improve energy performance in an sustainable
manner.

THE COMMITTEE FOR SAFEGUARDING IMPARTIALITY (CSI) is comprised of : ◦ persons with
experience in management
◦ members of trade associations and
◦ representatives from consumer groups
who are all external to the certification body.
They provide oversight to eliminate commercial pressures and give advice on matters affecting openness and public perception.
The purpose of the firewall is that there is no “intermingling” of processes that may pose a risk to Impartiality and Conflict of Interest.
A firewall exists between the NCBJ and the divisions and departments of the BSJ.
The NCBJ has implemented a management system to ensure that its operations conform to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021
The NCBJ is accredited by ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to offer certification to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.

1. Client completes NCBJ Application for certification
2. NCBJ presents proposal and upon acceptance, the certification contract
3. Client signs contract and makes payment to the NCBJ
4. NCBJ schedules and conducts Stage 1 Audit
5.NCBJ provides report & Stage 2 Audit proceeds
6. Executive Committee reviews auditors
report and approves certification
7. NCBJ issues certificate

In accordance with IEC/ISO 17021 Clause 5.1.3, the NCBJ shall be responsible for, and shall retain authority for its decisions relating to:

NCBJ has a cadre of experienced and competent auditors and technical experts (TEs)
