An Encouraging Word
Volume 23 - Issue 2—May / June, 2019
The Mt. Nebo News
“Fireside Gazing: Seeing God in the Flames” There’s
something about a campfire that draws us in close. We
can’t help but gaze at the flickering flames. When we
do, we slow down. We focus. And we reflect. Maybe
that’s why God used fire to help some people see Him
at key times in their lives. Plan to be part of some fire-
side gazing we’ll be doing through Scripture on Sun-
day mornings in May and June. It may turn out to be
the thing God has planned to help us see Him at a key
time in our lives. —Pastor Mike

Prayers and love to their families and friends.
A s another school year comes to an end, we wish to
sincerely thank everyone who has helped make
this ministry a success again this year. Nearly 100 chil-
dren at Hamersville Elementary have been given the ex-
tra food they need to get them through the weekend.
On average, it costs about $100 per child for the school
year, and it could not be accomplished without the gen-
erosity of so many of you! Many of these families turn
to local food pantries over the summer, so please contin-
ue to support these children by donating to Mt. Nebo’s food pantry. We will
also continue to collect items throughout the summer so we are ready when
the school year begins again. Thank You!

To Mars and Beyond
B last Off with us as we travel to Mars and Beyond and help kids discover the wonders
of God’s universe. Children Pre-K** through 6th grade will become voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God’s power can take them. Beginning in an Assembly area- an outpost on Mars- they will lift off to distant planets on special missions each day to collect power sources. Along the way, they will learn
how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them, too! Add to the adventure, some out-of-this-world fun, snacks, crafts, and science activi-ties. All of this will inspire kids to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we can imagine. Registration link is available at Mt. Nebo church website, www.mtneboumcoh.com or print registration forms are available at the sign up table in the church narthex. Each family completing either online or print registration prior to June 22nd will receive a free CD of the music for the To Mars and Beyond VBS.
**must be 4 years old and potty trained by June 20th.

Prime Timers’ Spring Events
W e have a great event sched-
uled at the church for Friday,
May 3rd at 6PM by the men in our
group. They graciously have planned a
“Celebrating Our Ladies” Lasagna din-
ner for us “lucky ladies”. This has be-
come a yearly event and is so enjoyed
by all of us, because the guys always do
such a good job of spoiling us. We
thank Harlan Moore, Junior Hayslip,
Richard Kirk and Jim Luckadoo for
planning and hosting the event.
We look forward to our June 8th
“Men’s Appreciation Dinner Celebra-
tion” to be held at the church at 6PM in
honor of our “great guys”. Guest enter-
tainment will be provided by Don Jen-
nings. Meat will be provided. Ladies
please bring a side dish or dessert. We
look forward to this event and hope to
see you there (to be hosted by Susan,
Dorothy and Nancy.)

“BARK”
A mother mouse and a baby mouse are
walking along when suddenly a cat
attacks them. The mother mouse shouts
“BARK!” and the cat runs away. “See?” the
mother mouse says to her baby. “Now do
you see why it’s important to learn a foreign
language?”
It’s The Thought...
M om, I was gonna give you an all ex-
penses paid, first-class trip to Hawaii
for Mother’s Day, but I knew how much
you'd miss me and I just couldn't put you
through that kind of agony.
Poor Preacher
A little boy said to the pastor that he
would give him some money when the
little boy is grown up. Pastor thanked him
and asked the little boy the reason. The little
boy mentioned that his father says that the
pastor is one of the poorest preachers they’ve
ever had.
The 1900s
T oday nearly 100 years have elapsed
since the first Father’s Day was cele-
brated. Fathers of 1900 didn’t have it nearly
as good as fathers of today; but they did have
a few advantages: In 1900, fathers prayed
their children would learn English. Today,
fathers pray their children will speak English.
