THE MOULTON MEDALS 1929-1996

T he Moulton Medals, Senior and Junior, commemorate the name ofLord Moulton who wasprominently associated with the development of chemical engineering during the1914-18 war. They were introduced by the Council of the Institution of Chemical

Engineers as awards to the authors of the best papers published by the Institution each year. TheMedals were first awarded in 1929.

The Senior Medal is awarded to the author, or authors, of the most meritorious paper publishedby the Institution during the year. Senior Medallists need not be members of the Institution.

The Junior Medal is awarded for the best paper published by the Institution during the yearwhich is by an author, or co-author, who is a member of the Institution and has not attained hisor her 31st birthday at the time of submission of the paper. In the case of co-authorship the JuniorMedal may be awarded to the junior author of the paper if it can be established that his or hercontribution to the work is of sufficient merit, and it is not proposed to award the Senior Medalfor the paper.

The Assessors may, if they consider that a sufficiently high standard has not been reached inthe year, recommend that the Junior Medal be not awarded.
