WELCOME to Fr. Jerry Hackenmueller
who celebrates with us this weekend. Fr. Jerry is a member of the Unbound Team, a lay Catholic sponsorship ministry that helps children and the elderly in 19 developing countries. Please consider sponsoring someone. There is a flyer included in this bulletin or you can learn more, by calling (800)875-6564 or visit Unbound online at www.unbound.org.
On Trinity Sunday,
celebrating love! Every week Unbound offers a
prayerful reflection from a member of the Unbound
community.
There is a legend about the great theologian, St. Augus-tine. One day, as he walked along the beach pondering the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, he noticed a young boy sitting at the edge of the sea. Over and over, the boy scooped water with a seashell and poured it into a hole in the sand. Curious, the saint asked the boy what he was doing, and he replied, “I’m emptying the ocean into this hole.”
Amused, Augustine told the boy that what he was at-tempting was impossible. The boy looked up at him and said, “It’s no more impossible than your attempt to under-stand the Trinity.” At this, the boy vanished and the saint realized that he’d been talking to an angel. The concept of one God in three persons is an essential Christian belief, but it is one we embrace more than com-
prehend. Even so, at the heart of the relationship be-tween the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is something we can understand — love. The Holy Trinity is a community of love so pure and whole that it’s expressed in all of creation. We, too, are called to be a community of love, and called to express that love by serving one another. It is in acts of loving service, more than anything else, that we give honor to
our Triune God. .
Please pray—
Most Holy Trinity, bless the Unbound commu-nity as we strive to follow your model of life-giving love. Guide us with the compassion of the Father, the generosity of the Son and the wis-dom of the Spirit. In all we do, may we strive only for the good of our brothers and sisters and the fulfillment of your will upon the Earth. We ask this in your holy name. Amen.
