Pastor’s Perspective …

“LIKE GOD, LIKE WORSHIPPERS” Easter celebration was essentially a celebration of Jesus Christ, the Second per-son of the Blessed Trinity. Pentecost was a

celebration of the Holy Spirit, the third Person. After those two celebrations, today, Trinity Sunday, the Church celebrates all Three Persons of the Trinity: Fa-ther, Son, and Holy Spirit. The three Persons of the Blessed Trinity are but one God. They are not three per-sons in one Person; nor are they three gods in one God. The doctrine of the inner relationship of the Fa-ther, Son, and Holy Spirit in such a way that each of them is fully and equally God, yet there are not three Gods but one, cannot be fully comprehended by the hu-man mind. It is a mystery. If we expected today’s readings to give us clear and elaborate presentation of the doctrine of the Blessed Trinity, we have found out that they simply do not. The doctrine of three persons in one God, equal in divinity yet distinct in personality, is not explicitly spelled out in the Bible. In fact the very word “Trinity” is not found in the Bible. Early Christians arrived at the doctrine when they applied their God given reason to the revelation which they had received in faith. Jesus spoke about the Father who sent him (the son) and about the Holy Spirit whom he was going to send. He said that the Father had given him (the Son) all that he has, and that he in turn has given to the Holy Spirit all that he has re-ceived from the Father. In this we see the unity of pur-pose among the three persons of the Trinity. In the story of salvation, we usually attribute creation to the Father, redemption to the Son and sanc-tification to the Holy Spirit. Nevertheless, they are dis-tinct as persons; neither the Father nor the Son nor the Holy Spirit ever exists or acts in isolation from the oth-er two persons of the Godhead. My brother and sisters in Christ, we may not be able to understand the how of the Trinity but I think it is very important to understand the why. Why did God reveal to us this mystery regarding the very nature of the Supreme Being? The importance of this doctrine lies in this: we are made in the image of God, therefore, the more we understand God the more we understand our-selves. Experts in religion tell us that people always try to be like the god they worship. People who worship a warrior god tend to be warmongering; people who worship a god of pleasure tend to be pleasure-seeking; people who worship a god of wrath tend to be vengeful; and peo-ple who worship a god of love tend to be loving; like a god, so the worshippers. Therefore, the more important question for us to ask today is: What does the doctrine of the Blessed Trinity tell us about the kind of God we are worshipping and what does this say about the kind of people we should be? As we celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday today, may that love and unity which God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit share be established among us. Amen.

Knightly News

The Knights of Columbus Council will be holding its monthly meet-ing at 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 10 at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall. Following the current Diocesan guidelines, a limit of 9 people are able to attend in person. However, we need full attendance as some crucial business must be addressed. A VIRTUAL meeting will run in conjunction with the LIVE meet-ing. Login information will be sent to all members prior to the meet-ing.

Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Community Events

St. Vincent de Paul-Kiel Opportunity is looking for warehouse volunteers from 1-5 pm, Monday-Friday. Choose one afternoon or more! Help is needed with incoming donations, loading furniture sales, garbage removal and other handyman warehouse tasks which may include some heavy lifting. If you have a few extra hours or are newly retired, this is a great cause. Our store has many volunteer opportunities in a variety of departments. Please consider volun-teering for this wonderful community organization. Stop in and see Kathleen or Lynda, or call 894-7834.

K of C Founder to be Beatified Pope Francis announced the formal recognition of a miracle attributed to founder, Venerable Fr. Mi-chael McGivney. A Mass of Beatification will soon be scheduled.

“Venerable Michael McGivney was the founder of Knights of Colum-bus, now the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization. After studies in Canada and the United States, he was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop James Gibbons in Baltimore. He founded the Knights of Columbus as a mutual aid society, geared especially to working men and their families. He was known for his tireless work among his parishioners. He died at the early age of 38 from pneumonia.”

How Has HT & SG Benefitted? Growing Our Faith

In December SG held the 2nd Annual Setting a Place for Jesus. It’s a wonderful evening that brought together women of both parishes and the larger community. This past year our guest speaker was Julianne Stanz from the Dept. of Evangelization at the Di-ocese. Julianne delivered a motivating and spirit-filled message about the importance of keeping a fo-cus on Christ during some of the busiest days before Christmas. She had shared her faith story and inspired about 100 women that evening. The ladies in attendance were energized by and appreciative of her wonderful message and have requested her return. The fee for Julianne to present at parish events such as this, along with her travel expenses, is entirely covered by the Bishop’s Appeal. What an important mission to help our sisters grow in faith! We look forward to hosting more future events with Julianne.

Thoughts for Today’s Readings …

To the Point: Our God is the ultimate gift giver. From the first story of creation, God gifted humanity with plants and animals to steward and use. In time, God called a people with whom to form a covenant rela-tionship, the people of Israel. And then, in the fullness of time, he gave his only son, Jesus, to open up this covenant to all who call upon the Lord. In all these gifts God calls us into relationship with himself, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. What will be our response to the abundant gifts of God? Connecting the Gospel to Experience: Throughout the history of salvation, God has longed to be in communion with the people he has created. We are invited to make the heart of the Trinity our own dwell-

ing place and to rest secure there in the love of God. 1. In the first reading, Moses invites God to “come along in our company.” How do you invite God into your daily life? 2. On this feast of the Holy Trinity, how does it change you or affect your perception of God to think of God-self as a relationship

of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? 3. In the second reading St. Paul urges the Corinthians to “encourage one another.” Which individuals or groups within your

community are in need of encouragement? 4. Our gospel today begins with one of the most well-known lines in Holy Scripture: “God so loved the world that he gave his

only Son.” What does this action tell us about the one we call the Father?
