NEW BOROUGH HALL
On February 27th, 2019 the Moonachie Police Department begantheir move into their quarters at the new Borough Hall.
The Police Department was housed in trailers on the property of 70 Moonachie Road, post Sandy, for the past 6 years. The contractfor the trailers ended on March 1st, so the Police needed to be intheir new home. Phone lines were run, computer systems set up,furniture moved in and supplies procured to make sure the move went as smoothly as possible. Over the last few weeks, kinks have been ironed out.
The new quarters have offices for the Chief, the Detectives,Sergeants, and a processing room, two cells, and other processingareas. There are locker rooms for the squad and a new dispatch area.
The Administration will be the next department to move over (by June 1st) and finally the Court offices willbe moved.
There will be a grand opening celebration when everyone is moved in.

2019 CURBSIDE GRASS COLLECTION BEGINS
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3RDEven though the Borough provides aweekly collection of grass from theresidents, we strongly encourageback yard composting or “cut it andleave it” as a preferred alternative.Grass will naturally decompose andprovide food for new growth andhealthier lawns if you cut it and leaveit on the lawn. The new mulchingmowers will chop the grass into
smaller pieces, causing them to decompose quicker and to minimize the clumping that resultsfrom grass which has grown too long before beingcut. Collecting your grass and composting it in asmall bin or pile will provide you with fertilizer as itdecomposes. It can also be used as ground coverto deter the growth of weeds in flowerbeds and gardens although it should not be used in gardensif the lawn has been treated with chemicals.
For those residents who chose to put their cut grassout for collection, the Borough will pick-up grass, yard waste and tree trimmings every Wednesday, beginning April 3rd through October 30th . Grassis not collected at the Recycling Depot any longerand must be placed at the curb in compostiblepaper bags for collection. Tree trimmings must becut in 4 foot lengths and bundled not to exceed50lbs. Tree trimmings are not to exceed 6 inches indiameter.
Tree stumps, tree trunks and branches exceeding 6 inches will not be picked up in the curbside collection and must be disposed of by the resident.
Compostible paper bags can be purchased at theMunicipal Building at a cost of 3bags for $1.00. A maximum of 15bags can be purchased at onetime. The borough charges thesame amount that it costs topurchase the bags from themanufacturer.

Can You Spell Better Than a 5th Grader?Over twenty 4th and 5th grade students recently participatedin a spelling bee sponsored by the New Jersey StateFederation of Women’s Clubs-Ridgefield Park EMD. Our spellers were well prepared, and the final roundsbecame very intense, but Sam Santamaria could not be out-spelled and won first place! Honors also go to DeanCardia (5th grade) who came in second place and Ryan Tu (5th grade) who came in 3rd place. Special recognitionbelongs to Gianna Eaddy who lasted many rounds and wasthe last 4th grader standing! Sam moved on to the nextround to represent RLC at the North Jersey Competition heldin Hasbrouck Heights.
I-m-p-r-e-s-s-i-v-e!Scripps Spelling Bee Grades 6-8This year’s National Scripps Spelling Bee for grades6-8 was a nail-biter. The last contestants remainingincluded two 7thgraders, and one 6thgrader. The judges had already resorted to the set of dictionary words, considering the contestants hadalready spelled all the provided words correct. Finally, with one minute remaining, the 6thgraderproved victorious. He won his third spelling bee in arow and cried tears of joy. All of the Robert L. Craigcontestants did a phenomenal job studying andpreparing for the competition.
