A Letter from Kevin the Chair

By: Chris P. Bacon (Geneva Elison)

Dear concerned citizens,

I want to first thank you for taking the time to read this article. As you can imagine, my peeps don’t usually have a voice. I work in the service industry as a seating technician. I am made of fine oak with artisan-crafted carvings and a classy but not too classy cushion. My day is usually quite peaceful and sometimes boring. The reason I am writing this article is to bring to your attention the fears and struggles of my fellow chairs. Kind folks of the people world, please do not step upon us as if we were a common ladder. We are seating technicians, not seating and ladder technicians! Ladies and gentlemen let me also point out a lack of common courtesy often overlooked. We often have the sitters sit upon us with nothing more than a thin piece of fabric separating us from what we call the “Bad Place.” With respect, allow me to suggest that extra cushions make seating more comfortable for both of us. Furthermore, my dear friends of the people world, if I scream out a creak, please understand this to be a call for help not a call to wiggle more!

The Island School By: Ava Charles

The Island School is a great school that allows students from all over the world to come to Eleuthera each year to study sustainability. The Island School also rethinks of ways on how to grow food. Students at the Island school learn about many things like food miles, sustainability etc. Food miles are the total distance food travels to us. Everything that is grown at the school stays on campus. Fun fact food travels in steps, not miles.

At the Island School students learn that dirt is not needed to grow plants. Instead of dirt they use aquaponics.

Aquaponics is a sustainable way to grow plants and raise fish together. The Harbour Island Green School and The Island School are quite similar because they both want to change the planet for the better, and both the Green School and the Island school do not use plastic and they compost.
