IN 1920 e JEE results declared on ursday 27 th April 2017, saw Vasu Jain of Modern School Barakhamba Road secure the 2 nd All India Rank in the Joint Entrance Examination. Vasu scored 350 out of a possible 360. Over 10.2 lakh students appeared for the exam all across the country. e examination is conducted for admission to various engineering colleges including the premier of IITs. Vasu Jain who comes from a family of doctors is passionate about Maths and Chemistry and calls himself a ‘perfectionist’. He says that ‘speed’ has been his winning factor and feels that ‘focus’ is the key to crack JEE. Vasu is not a book worm as he makes sure to take out time to read novels and comics. CATALSYT: THE MEDICAL EXHIBITION

“LINGUA FIESTA 2017”

The Students’ Union of the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) organized an exhibition ‘Catalyst’ on 27th and 28th April 2017 at the institute. hundred and five students from Modern School Barakhamba Road, of classes S5, S6 and S7 witnessed the exhibition. The students got an opportunity to examine real human body organs and also to compare them with pathologically diseased organs. Students were demonstrated the method to give CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), which is an emergency procedure performed to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person in cardiac arrest. The exhibition provided students with a chance to understand human anatomy beyond their textbooks and laboratory experience at school.

“Lingua Fiesta”- the language festival, held at The Modern School, Kundli on Saturday, 29th April 2017 was a unique event where students from various schools participated in different competitions that celebrated languages.

It had competitions and workshops in French, German, Hindi and Sanskrit. Students of Modern School, Barakhamba Road along with the Facilitator Ms. Divya Sharma participated in various events like the French fancy dress competition, the French poster making competition, the French solo/group song and the French workshop. Modern School, Barakhamba Raod students bagged the rolling trophy for scoring the maximum points overall. The students also won the hearts of the audience by singing a medley of songs during the closing ceremony of the event.

On 19th April, 2017 the SPIC MACAY of Modern School organized an Inter-House Comic Strip Competition wherein 10 students from classes S1 - S3 made a 10 page long comic strip on the assigned Indian Classical Music and Dance forms as their topic. The students highlighted the background and emergence of these topics and brought forth a creation that gave detailed description about the various dance forms.

Thirty four students of Modern School, Barakhamba Road participated in the Madhubani Painting Workshop under the aegis of Ms. Jyoti Karan. The chief guest, Ms Rekha Raikera, Civil Service Officer with the Ministry of Finance praised the works of these students and found them a beautiful depiction of “the age old traditions, culture and heritage of our country”.

A group of girls from Modern School Barakhamba Road were selected and trained by Smt. Uma Ramesh for an exceptional Bharatnatyam performance- Mallari which was performed by the students on the

occasion of World Dance Day. Ms. Ramesh also interacted with the students and enlightened them about the intricacies of the classical dance, its origin,

development, renowned ‘mudras’ and other lesser known facts.

On 28th April, 2017 the World Dance Day organized by the SPIC MACAY of Modern School, Barakhamba Road featured spell-binding performances ‘Shankar Sreegiri’ and ‘Ardhanareshwar’ by Smt. Uma Ramesh, and a breathtaking Kathak solo by Pt. Rajendra Gangani with maestros such as Kamaal Ahmed Khan on the Saarangi, Mr. Pranshu Chaturlal on the Tabla, and Rohit Parihar and Dipti Gupta as vocalists. The performances of the artists mesmerized the audience creating a true blend of cosmic tune and divine music.

The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian Classical Music, Classical Dance, Folk Music, Yoga, Meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture. A spectacular and fun filled evening was presented by the members and teachers of Gandhi House on the occasion of their Biennial House Function on 28th April, 2017. Eminent educationist Mr B. K. Sood was the Chief Guest for the evening. The show began with a rocking performance on Drums by Eshaan Minocha. On the occasion of World Dance Day, members of the house presented a ballet showcasing various dance forms of India followed by a solo dance performance by Manya Sikka and a Fusion dance. The main attraction of the evening was the play “Mother’s Day” by J. B. Priestly, enacted by the budding actors of S6 and S7. Our mothers work relentlessly and deserve a much better treatment for their continuous devotion and hard work, was the message conveyed beautifully by the play. The boys group next presented a tribute to the King of pop and dance - Michael Jackson The House song was truly inspirational. The event received accolades from the Principal and the Chief Guest.
