LOCAL INWARDINVESTMENT
The Round Foundry in the heart of the Holbeck Urban
Village where almost 2,000 people are employed has
been acquired for £31.5m by Hermes Real Estate
Investment Management. The development, which
comprises 155,811 sq ft (14,476 sq m) of office,
restaurant and residential space over 5.65 acres is
located adjacent to The Mint. The Round Foundry,
which is an integral part of Holbeck Urban Village to
the south of Leeds Station and the River Aire, is known
as a creative hub. The development encompasses a
cluster of new and listed buildings, the Round Foundry
Media Centre, Marshalls Mill (a Grade II*-listed former
flax mill) and Marshalls Court.
Earlier this year, Carillion was named as development
partner for Tower Works area of Holbeck Urban
Village, Leeds. The £80m development plan located
close to The Mint will breathe new life into this iconic
area of the city. Carillion has been selected by the
Homes & Communities Agency as the preferred
development partner to deliver a new prestigious
mixed use development at Tower Works, a key
development site within Holbeck Urban Village, Leeds.
Plans to bring this historic pin factory site in Leeds back
to life has taken a huge step forward during October
2015, with construction firm Carillion signing a contract
to transform the 1.17 hectare site at Tower Works.
The site at Leeds’s South Bank will be transformed
into 90,000sq ft of office space, 24,000sq ft of retail,
restaurant and bar space and a mix of apartments and
townhouses on the doorstep of The Mint.
The regeneration of Leeds’ South Bank is happening
very quickly, which covers the area from Leeds Dock
to Holbeck Urban Village, and includes the Tetley
Brewery as well as the development of the South
entrance to Leeds Train Station. The former Tetley Brewery site has been sold by Carlsberg UK for an
undisclosed sum during October 2015. The brewing
giant has announced that Vastint, the property division
of the IKEA Group, has bought the prized 22-acre
plot in the city’s South Bank. The landmark site was
home to the famous Tetley Brewery for 189 years
Vastint has confirmed it has plans to bring forward
the redevelopment of the site in line with the aims of
Leeds City Council’s South Bank Planning Statement
to create a vibrant, residential and business community
with the prospect of a city centre park.
