The Minsk Region Promotes a Healthy Lifestyle

Tourists visiting our country pay attention to ex-isting sports facilities and those that are still under construction. It seems that life in the Belarusian capital is most interesting and eventful, at least as far as sport is concerned. The Sports Palace, the Tennis Palace, the Football Manège, the Ice Pal-ace, numerous skating rinks, a ski- and roller-track, stadiums and what not… This is how the main priority of our national policy – public health protection – is put into practice.

Belarusian sports facilities can host competitions of the highest international level. Sports facilities located not far from Minsk, in the Minsk oblast, keep pace with the capital.

Silichy

The republican alpine-skiing centre Silichy entered the list of tourist attractions of the Minsk region quite recently – in January 2003, but won popularity with the citizens of Belarus and the guests of our country at once.

This is not a coincidence – Silichy is a multifunctional facility where every visitor can find a pastime to his liking in summer and winter alike. The complex covers the space of 30.5 hectares. Hotels and fitness centers with saunas, restaurants and cafes, a gym and a con-ference hall, pistes, and rental stores can be found in picturesque places. The guests will also benefit from a parking lot accommodating 850 cars.

All the willing can make good use of their spare time with alpine and cross country skis, snowboards, tubers, mountain bikes, roller skates, ski rollers, all-terrain vehi-cles, mini-buggies and snow mobiles. The only skiing slope simulator SkyTee in Belarus is here, in Silichy.

Silichi regularly hosts numerous events: in winter – the regional sports festival within the framework of the international specialized exhibition “World Health Fashion Week”, in summer – the pubic event “Day of the Republic in Silichy and the “Tea Festival in Silichy”.

Raubichy

The Raubichy Olympic sport complex is located about 20 km far from Minsk, the capital of Belarus, and 25 km from the international airport Minsk-2, in a picturesque spot with terrain features affected by the glacier.

A distinctive style of local architecture makes you feel that you are in a mountainous region. That is why tourists from all over the world call this place a ‘Bela-rusian Switzerland’. Despite its ‘young age’ Raubichy has a glorious past – it hosted 4 World Championships in biathlon, World Cup in ski-race, European Freestyle Championships and many other competitions. Raub-ichy became a launching pad for many famous bia-thletes of the former USSR. In 1996, the Raubichy sport complex was rated “A” (highest category) by the IBU and gained a license to hold the highest-level com-petitions with no exceptions.

The complex is a network of ski-tracks which meet the world’s standards with full track length of 20.5 km. It comprises a shooting-ground equipped with 36 me-chanical targets; an acrobatic slope for freestyle; a complex of 20, 40, and 60 meters ski-jumps; 6.2 km ski- and roller-track with special coating; sports build-ing with two universal sports halls; football-, volleyball-, basketball-, and handball-grounds with artificial coat-ing; tennis-courts; as well as a medical centre, restau-rants, bars, saunas, a rental store, and a museum of arts and crafts. On the territory of the OSK Raubichy, near River Usyazh, there are two comfortable hotels and cottages with 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 beds and a net-work of recreation facilities. All in all, the two hotels and cottages accommodate 280 people.
