James Fleming, executive editor of the New York Amsterdam News has been elected to the national board of directors and to the ex- ecutive committee of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Amer- ica, it was announced this week Tne new memuer was associ- ated with the Presidents FEPC from 1941 to 1945 as regional di- rector, directing the program in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. He was secretary for race relations of the American Friends Service from 1945 to 1950.' Dr. Fleming is a graduate of Hampton Institute and the Uni- versity of Wisconsin, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his M. A. in eco- nomics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1944, and his Ph.D. in political science in 1948. He is a member of the Amer- ican Academy of Political and Social Science, American Society for Public Administration, Sigma Delta Chi (national journalism society), Sigma Rho, (national speech fraternity.) Dr. Fleming has written for the Crisis, tne Annais of the American Academy, Journal of Negro Education, and was the principal editor of the current Who’s Who in Colored America. A Time*’ Ad Pay*! The sixth grade class motored to Mays high school for the pur- pose of rendering a program be- fore leaving us. They were ac- companied by Mrs. Pauline Dunn, Mrs Viola Crawford, Mrs. Bernice Thompson, and Mr. White. Our operetta was a success. title of it was "Taffy Ann.” From the information that I gathered it was superb. Some of out teachers are Dlanning to attend summer school in order to improve themselves professionally. I A summer program is being offered at Richmond Heights. This is aimed directly at our so-called Negro-programmed stations. If you guys aren’t more careful of that low-down type of record, you’re gonna llnd yourselves in the middle of a “dirty wax campaign”. We agree a lot of folk go for that stuff, but then what about the many more who detest it. After all, you should give the young people a break and not expose them to such listenings. You never hear that sort of stuff on the big network stations. Now let’s clean up our pro- grams before the ire of the public forces you to do it You can’t beat good public relations. Nus sed.
