We have had a wonderful
summer in Family Life
Ministry. First and
foremost, we would like to
say “Thank You” to the
congregation for your
support through the
donations given and budget
support provided. It shows
how much you value
children, youth, and family
ministry and we are so
grateful. We also want to
thank ALL of the
volunteers who have served
with us in these summer
ministries. We would not be
able to offer these
experiences without your
help. A special “Thank
You” to Lindsey Kimbell
who served as the summer
intern in our program.
Lindsey led Kids’ Kamp at
the Mission campus July 10
-13, assisted with VBS set-
up and organization, and
helped in many other ways.
We wanted to share the
highlights with you to let
you know how we are
working to grow as a
“Community Following
Jesus.”
Lutheran Valley Retreat 2017 Theme: “Made for More” Trinity had fifteen youth
and two adults attend LVR
Youth Camp June 4-10.
Our theme this year was
“Made for More.” We
focused our week in Bible
study on the life of Joseph
and learning “God’s
Promise Prevails” in every
part of our lives. There was
daily worship, Bible study,
and on Wednesday there
was worship on top of
Cedar Mountain and at
Outpost. The youth
participated in service
projects for camp and also
in a variety of fun activities
like zip line, rock climbing,
rappelling, archery,
horseback riding, evening
hikes, and a sunrise hike.
Those attending were Claire
Hofstetter, Aubrey
Hofstetter, Elizabeth
Hartje, Anna Owsley, Jenna
Haase, Peyton Wagoner,
Lauren Harrell, Anna
Nellis, Annie Roney, Blake
Harrell, Noah Kuhn,
Demitry Barker, Evan
Nellis, Cameron Pilchard,
and Kyle Mayfield. We had
four returning LVR
campers and eleven
incoming freshmen.
Madison Delamore served
as a Cabin Coach and
Rhonda Synovec served as
Lead Staff.

Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School
We had so much FUN at
Maker Fun Factory VBS. We
learned that we are “Created by
God, Built for a Purpose!” We
also learned that God is
always with us, he is
always for us, and he
will always love us!
We served 240 children
at VBS this year – 150 at
Shawnee and 90 at
Mission! Over 90 volunteers
served in a variety of ways
during our VBS weeks. We
were especially excited to have
a day camp from Olathe join us
for the Mission campus VBS!
Special thanks to our VBS
teams – Barb Estes, Cheryl
Palmer, Aubrey Hofstetter,
Claire Hofstetter, Kristol
Stenstrom, Suzanne Cox, Katie
Taylor, Nancy Schulz, Annette
Kramer, JoAnn Emerson, and
Julie Messbarger.
Kids’ Kamp We served 23 children in
first through fifth grade in
Kids’ Kamp at the Mission
campus. Lindsey Kimbell
served as our camp director.
Trinity youth served as our
camp coaches. Our camp
activities included games,
singing at Bickford Senior
Living, movie day, and a
swim day.
A Summer to Serve is an
intergenerational event for
children, youth, families and
all congregation members
on Sunday mornings at
Trinity from 9:45 – 10:45am
at both our Mission and
Shawnee campuses. It takes
the place of summer
Sunday school. Each
Sunday this summer we will
explore God’s Word for
our lives based on the Fruit
of the Spirit. We will share
a short devotional and
grow in fellowship with one

another as we serve others.
This Sunday, July 23, we
will be sorting LEGO
bricks for repackaging and

Rhonda Synovec Begins Sabbatical By Pastor Mark Schulz
sabbatical, the staff member
then shares their learnings
with other staff, ministry
teams, and the
congregation.
This year Rhonda Synovec,
Trinity’s Director of Family
Life Ministry, will be on
sabbatical from July 15 until
October 15. She will be
exploring innovations in
family life ministry. Several
staff members as well as
members of different
ministry teams are covering
Rhonda’s ministry
responsibilities during her
time away. We pray that
Rhonda’s sabbatical will be
a blessing to her and to our
congregation. Please contact
Pastor Mark if you have any
questions or concerns.
One of the ways that
Trinity cares for its staff is
by providing a three-month
sabbatical experience for
ministry staff members
every five years. The
sabbatical is a combination
of research and learning
about a particular ministry
area as well as time for rest
and renewal. Upon
completion of the

John Peimann continues to
share the story, and his deep
heart for the Guatemalan
people with us in a way that’s
contagious and really focuses
our attention.
It was a blessing to reconnect
with Joe and Cindy Betsill, the
organizers of our work here.
We lean into the relationships
they have and intend to
connect people to one another
and to Jesus through their
connectivity and deep heart for
people.
Hello from Panajachel,
Guatemala!
Travels went very well this year
and we just finished our first
bigger day of work on Elvira’s
house. She and several of her
children were there. It was
great to work beside them.
There was a little time to play
soccer in the alleyway with a
little boy, maybe three years
old. He smiled as he kicked the
ball, passed Doug Lewallen
and yelled, “Gooooooal!” We
laughed! He then kicked the
ball to John Hoestje a few
times too, even into the
wheelbarrow full of wet sand
John was pushing. Soccer
takes all forms!
Our work at Elvira’s was
focused. We moved a lot of
concrete block and sand and
cut re-bar. Hanna Hurt cut out
a tall “limon” tree, which was
impressive. Erin and Wayne
talked as they cut strips of
metal bar for the rebar work.
Jane continues to be a blessing
in communicating to the
people we meet. It will make
her and us smile when people
will speak to her in Spanish
and then one another in a
Mayan language. We always

Every time there is a fifth
Sunday in a month, the
children at Trinity celebrate by
having a Noisy Collection.
This is exactly what it sounds
like – it’s noisy while the kids
collect change from the
congregation. They use metal
buckets so everyone can hear
the change being donated. Of
course, paper money is always
accepted too, it just isn’t as
noisy! This change is used to
help other kids and families in
need. It gives our Trinity kids
an opportunity to participate
in the worship service as well
as serve others. We are
thankful to the congregation
for generously supporting

What happens if the fifth
Sunday is a special service or a
holiday? In that case, to help
keep worship within the time
constraints, Noisy Collection
is moved to the following
Sunday. So if it happens to be

Intentional Personal Ministry By Tom Perry
Saturday, August 19,
9am-noon
Mission Campus
What is a personal
ministry and, more
importantly, what is your
personal ministry? Most
people, if asked if they are
loving and caring, would
most likely characterize
themselves as being so.
But how does that
manifest itself into
intentional action by you?
How are you spreading
Christ’s love and promise
to others?
On August 19 at 9am
Trinity will sponsor an
event in which we will
encourage and assist you in
finding ways to participate
in your own intentional
personal ministry. We will
have members of the
Shawnee and Mission
campuses tell what they
have done and how they
got started. You will have
the opportunity to
participate that morning in
an in-house mission
activity. The goal is that you
will leave looking for ways
that you can uniquely share
the blessings of being a
Child of God.
Sharing the unique gifts
God has given you can
come in a wide variety of
ways. Find ways that you
share with others in an
enjoyable and eager way.
We hope to see you on
August 19!
Listening to You By Cheri Wright, President
One of the primary
responsibilities of Trinity’s
Executive Committee is
listening to you, the
members of our
“Community Following
Jesus.” This happens in a
variety of ways, both
through organized events
where input is sought as
well as informally in
personal conversation.
Another way this happens
is when one or more
community members
attends an Executive
Committee meeting. Please
know that there is an open
invitation for you to do so.
It would be helpful for you
to contact President Cheri
Wright beforehand.

With Jay Williams’
departure, facility room
setups at the Mission
campus will now be handled
by Nissen Services. We are
working toward having as
smooth a transition as
possible. With everyone’s
help and an added measure
of patience, we are
confident that facility needs
will be handled adequately.
There are a few things that
anyone who reserves events
in the building should keep
in mind.
1. All event setup scheduling
will now be handled
through Gretchen in the
church office. This was
mostly already being
done.
2. All room setups will be
done the evening before
the event, so please keep
this in mind to avoid
scheduling facility changes
Facility Setup Changes at the Mission Campus By Gretchen Hollman
for the same day.
3. Please reserve rooms as
early as possible.
Gretchen will be printing
reports of all events and
this will greatly assist her
in managing the expanded
workload.
4. Please be as exacting as
you can in reserving
rooms and equipment. If
you would like a podium
or an extension cord,
please request it. If you
need a skirt for a table, we
will need to know.
5. A master facility binder
will be kept at Gretchen’s
desk in the church office.
All event reports, room
setups, and equipment
listings will be kept in that
binder.
6. Gretchen is more than
happy to assist you in
making sure your event is
reserved so you are
pleased with the result.
Feel free to call or email
with any questions or
requests. She is here to
serve!
7. Remember that there is
an Event Setup Request
form that can be found
at tlcms.org on the
calendar page. Using this
form is preferable.
8. Patience and
cooperation is extremely
appreciated in the
transition. If something
isn’t right with your
setup, feel free to
modify it or ask any staff
person to help.
We will miss Jay, but
together, the body of
Christ continues our vital
work as we fulfill our
mission to be a
“Community Following
Jesus.”

Ushers Needed at Mission Campus By Randy Fassold
Usher groups, a time-

organization, are in need
of more members at the
Mission campus. All of
the Sunday services (8:30,
9:45, and 11am) could use
more team members. The
usher teams for each
service are divided into two
groups, A and B. Each
group is assigned in a
pattern of two weeks “on”
and two weeks “off”
throughout the year. Both
men and women can be
valued members of an

Wittenberg English Ministry By Deacon Tim Reaman
Since 1997 the Wittenberg
English Ministry (WEM)
has coordinated English-
speaking worship for
visitors to Wittenberg,
Germany. All services are
conducted in the historic
churches where Martin
Luther taught and
preached. Luther posted
the 95 Theses on the
Castle Church doors in
1517 which initiated the
Reformation of the
Christian Church. 2017 is a
celebratory year since it
marks the
500th anniversary of the
Theses posting.
Since WEM’s beginning,
more than 250 Lutheran
pastors from the USA,
Canada and Australia have
voluntarily served in this
ministry, leading worship
five days each week for a
period of two weeks.
For the fifth time, Deacon
Tim Reaman will serve as a
host in Wittenberg–working
with WEM pastors–for 6
weeks from August 19 –
October 2.
My Dear Trinity Family,
It was so wonderful to be remembered by everyone at Trinity
by your prayers, cards and the beautiful flowers. But most of

visit was so nice. See you in church!
