Pastor’s Paragraph “All who want to come after me must say no to themselves,
take up their cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23 (CEB)
Jesus challenges us to “take up our cross daily” when
we follow him. That’s an enigmatic expression.
What does it mean? To me, it’s a reminder that we
can take a step every day. Some days we’re feeling
well, healthy and invigorated by the Spirit. We’re
ready to tackle the mountain. Let’s get up early for
the hike! Other days, we can hardly raise our head.
The idea of sitting up is enough, much less getting out
of bed. Where’s the Tylenol?
Jesus challenges us to follow, no matter how you feel
or what the day is like. Take a step on your spiritual
journey. All we have to do is go to God first. God
loves us. Jesus frees us from the power of things that
would limit or bind us. The Holy Spirit gives us the
power to persevere and thrive. We can be a blessing,
no matter whether we’re in a hospital bed, in a line or
stuck in traffic.
The problem is that we don’t usually go to God first.
We rely on our own strength. We think “I can do it”
as if will power alone was sufficient to overcome the
challenges of our anxious world. Failure comes with
a high cost. We lose confidence, our self-esteem is
low.
When we rely on God’s strength, we’re tapping into
an amazing power and energy that’s outside our
capacity and abilities. Paul tells us that God’s power
is made perfect when we are weakest (2 Corinthians
12:9). That’s because when we are at our weakest,
we need God the most. We get out of the way and let
God take over. We stop trying to be in control and
receive grace.
Accept God’s love and pass it on. What a wonderful
blessing to share with your family. Happy
Thanksgiving!

➢ A big thank you from the UMW! Our jelly sales were
once again successful and there are many to thank. Many
thanks to those who donated the pomegranates and then to
the tireless workers who picked pomegranates and
squeezed the juice. Those that donated jars are much
appreciated as it helps our profits. The wonderful team of
ladies who make the jelly are the best! Thanks to Marian
W., Deanna M., Sue T., Fungai C., Vicki R., Doreen P.,
Esperanza S., and Carol H.. Everyone seems to have
their own special area and we just jell! Betty N. and Judy
Z. “dressed” the jelly, which made them look nice and
ready for sale. Many days and hours go into making the
jelly and as you know this year we have expanded our
offerings! Everyone is always very positive and willing to
try new things. We so appreciate everyone who buys and
we hope you will enjoy the jelly. The UMW uses the
monies earned from this yearly sale to support its Missions.
This truly is a collective effort by all.
Thank you – Linda McG.
➢ And another big thank from the UMM!
The Men of the Church would like to thank the
congregation for their past support in making our Annual
2017 Turkey Dinner a large success.
We would also like to thank everyone who helped out at
the dinner and assisted in preparation, serving and clean-
up.
A special thanks to the cooks who prepared dinner: Doug
C., Jim S., Lynn B., Ron S., Alan D., Ernie F., Ray E.,
Herson P., and Ralph McG..
Our Vision We are a church of
blessings, changing the
world through words and
deeds of grace,
showing others how to
follow Jesus Christ.

News from Faith in Motion We are in need of our congregation’s generous help! Our help is needed for clothing and shoes
for a 17 year old student in the Corona Norco area. His name is Chris and he likes basketball.
Chris wears a size Medium men’s shirt; Large pants; and shoes 10 ½. He likes basketball shorts
and sweats.
We also have a request of jackets and warm clothing for a family in Home Gardens. There are
five children; one is developmentally delayed. The sizes are: Boy, age 8 – size 10; Girl, age 11
– size 16 (child/teen); Girl, age 16 – size Medium woman’s; Boy, age 17 – size 2XL; Boy 19 –
