Born on October 23, 1932 in Scott Hollow of Culleoka, Mary Sue was the daughter of Sallie Sue Damron Scott and Miles Dugger Scott. She was preceded in death by Harold Floyd, her husband of 54 years and the love of her life. Harold passed away in 2011. Mary Sue has two devoted daughters, Mollie Floyd and Susie (Dr. Brian) Jackson and two grandchildren whom she adored, Christopher and Suzannah Jackson.
Mary Sue was a 1951 graduate of Culleoka High School, where she received the DAR Good Citizen Medal. She also attended Columbia Business College. Afterwards, she was employed as a secretary with Ross Insurance Agency.
Feisty, enthusiastic, merry-hearted, independent, kind
and loving - she was all these and more. Mary Sue always put her family first and was an avid supporter of anything they were involved in.
She was a lifelong member of the West Seventh Street Church of Christ. Mary Sue was a member of the Jane Knox Polk Chapter of the DAR, the Capt. James
Madison Sparkman Chapter of the UDC and Maury County Historical Society. Mary Sue was a civilian reenactor at living history events and was involved with the APTA Home Tours. She was also a founding member of the Woodrow Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Woodrow Community Club. She was very generous with her money and time and always helped others. In her youth, she was an avid horsewoman and continued her love of animals throughout her life.
When Mary Sue was asked what life lessons she lived by, she answered: “Follow God, be kind to everybody, don’t consider yourself better than other people and always tell the truth.”

United Hispanic Worship
On Sunday, March 8, groups from West Seventh, Church Street (Lewisburg), and Berry’s Chapel (Franklin) met at our building for a morning of fellowship and worship. Sharing a physical and spiritual feast with 76 people uplifted us as we lifted praises to our Lord. Included in that number was a couple of visitors from the Columbia community and elders and deacons who work with the Hispanic ministries in their respective congregations.
Tom Anderson and Santos Galicia (West Seventh) led prayers. Steve Allen and Hugo Och, (Church Street); Josué Montano and Keith Thomason (Berry’s Chapel); and Alex Quintero (West Seventh) served the Lord’s Supper and collected the offering. Frank Meza (Berry’s Chapel) led singing and Hector Cruz (Church Street) delivered a message on “Caring for Our Salvation.” Dozens responded to the Lord’s invitation requesting, “Brothers, pray for us” (1 Thessalonians 5:25).
While our earthly citizenship may belong to Mexico, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, or USA, we are united by “…our citizenship in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20). We look forward to participating in the next united worship in June at the Church Street congregation and again in October at Berry’s Chapel. Thank you to each congregation and their leadership for the collaboration and support of these events that strengthen our faith and our bond as a family united in Christ.
Culto Unido Hispano
elevamos alabanzas a nuestro Señor. Incluido en este número había un par de visitantes de la comunidad de Columbia y ancianos y diáconos que trabajan con los ministerios hispanos en sus respectivas congregaciones.
Tom Anderson y Santos Galicia (West Seventh) hicieron oraciones.
Mission Report - by Alex Quintero
One year ago in March, the Bowens and Pinkstons left to begin the work in Southeast Asia. In that year, they have found homes, identified and begun Bible studies with Christians, completed one year of language school, and
begun to make contacts in the community. They have also begun to work on finding part-time jobs such as providing social work in the local hospital, offering exercise and nutrition education, and even caring for patients, depending on each individual’s talent and training. Those jobs will eventually open doors for new contacts--new people to study the Bible who have never heard the gospel before.
Also in that year, this congregation has continued to pray, has held a special service just for the Bowens, and has sent at least one care package every month. Now the time has come to visit the work there. Unlike other mission trips, the nature of the work in Southeast Asia does not permit us to send a group of people to provide a service event as a way of outreach. Instead, we can send a small number of people with a different set of goals: to encourage the mission team, to bring a report back to this congregation, and to encourage the Christians in Southeast Asia--many of whom may
never have met a Christian from another country before this work began.
This May we will send Ben and Heather Diles to accomplish those goals. Though we cannot send a large group, there are still biblical ways in which the members of this congregation can support and encourage this trip and the work as a whole. We are sending in order to encourage the mission team and the members at West Seventh,
just as Paul sent Timothy to Thessalonica and received an encouraging report (1 Thess. 3:6ff). We can pray, as Paul constantly asked Christians to pray specifically for the work around the world (2 Thess. 3:1-5). We can give to cover the costs of the trip, and in that way participate in the sending (Phil. 4:14-20).
We ask that you please pray for this trip, for the safety
of Ben and Heather, for unity of the team in Southeast Asia, for the encouragement and well-being of the team members, and that God will direct and open doors for an effective work. This specific trip will cost approximately $4,000, including airfare, food, and travel in country. If you would like to support this, please give money earmarked for the Diles’ trip to the church office, or talk to Josh Hardin or one of the elders. The Diles will also pack an extra bag to carry supplies and gifts to the team. We are requesting a list of needs from the Bowens and will publish that list closer to May.

JESUS IS SUPERIOR
On Sunday, March 22, the elders shared a mission for the church:
West Seventh Street Church of Christ – Striving to be completely committed followers of Jesus. Discipling – Equipping – Serving – Loving
That message, including several announcements about ministries to our children and youth, was recorded. This mission marks a new day for our church family as we look forward and take bold steps of faith to disciple, equip, serve and love! If you were absent, you will want to listen first-hand and be informed. You may listen online; just go to the church website and click the IN THE KNOW tab to find sermons. Some extra CDs were also made, or you may order and pick up one at the Information Center. You will also want to hear Barry’s message on March 29. Barry shared some opening remarks at the retreat for elders and ministers and they asked him to share that same message with the whole church family.
There was an air of excitement as we announced the addition of a staff position to lead the way in revitalizing our children’s ministry. In many ways, an effective, vibrant children’s ministry will impact the church today much like hiring a youth minister did for congregations 20-30 years
ago. It is hard to imagine a vibrant, growing church now, without one. And, speaking of teens, making room for even more by relocating the teens to the Fellowship Hall is our first step. As mentioned in the announcement, this will mean patience is needed by all of us as we further develop these plans to invest increased efforts discipling, equipping, serving and loving these young souls.
Additional conversations, planning meetings and multiple opportunities to be involved are in the works, so be listening. The children’s ministry, in particular,
is going to need more than the usual teacher roles to make it happen. To renovate the learning spaces we will need creative minds, artists, painters, both skilled craftsmen and willing hearts. Imagine Vacation Bible School, but on a bigger scale and with permanent props, creative learning atmospheres and volunteers of every sort. All of this will be done to bring the truth of Scripture alive to children in the many ways they learn and retain information.
Be extra attentive to announcements, meetings, etc. both in the bulletin, web and
email, so you can be involved - whether you are 8 or 88! Pray that everything we do as a church will help us live out our mission to be completely committed followers of Jesus. Discipling. Equipping. Serving. Loving.
