The Memorial Baptist Church Greenville, NC Volume 44 Issue 2 February 2019 Celebrang Growth in the TMBC Music and Worship Arts Ministries You may have noced a number of new faces in the Chancel Choir over the past fiſteen months. Several newer members as well as some longer-term members of our church have joined with the choir and are contribung their voices and musical abilies in the worship life of TMBC. In the past year, we have welcomed to the choir Sue Morgan, Susan Nelson, Mary Roby, Pat Terry, and Susan Zimmerman to the soprano secon; Jim Harris and James Taon to the bass secon; and Russ Gray and Tyler Morgan to the tenor secon. I am thrilled to have these folks joining with our long-me choir members who are so faithful and generous in giving me to rehearsals and worship leadership. You may also have noced our four Choral Scholars: Bridget Fex and Lauren Walsh in the soprano secon and Sarah Holt and Rachel Wilson in the alto secon. Inially, these four ECU students assisted with our Christmas cantata in 2017 at the invitaon of Dr. Catherine Garner; they also assisted us in 2018 with Maundy Thursday and Easter services. With some individual donaons, we were able last fall to invite these students to join us on a regular basis under the tle, “TMBC Choral Scholars.” As of 2019, we were able to rearrange some music budget priories and create an ongoing TMBC Choral Scholars program without increasing the overall music ministry budget. The Choral Scholars program is intended to provide a link between the music ministry and ECU’s outstanding School of Music. We provide the student-scholars with important experiences in serving the church with the goal of helping them to idenfy a vocaonal calling into church service (part-me or full-me) when they graduate and begin their professional music careers. Meanwhile, they support our church and help give us a more open and stronger engagement with young adults in our community. It was my privilege to host a similar program at my former church in Shelby, but the program at TMBC was paerned aſter those hosted by churches in Greenville, including First Presbyterian, Jarvis UMC, St. James UMC, and others which value the connecon with ECU and seek to provide a process that benefits both the church and the students. If you have any quesons about this program, feel free to get in touch with me ( [email protected]). TMBC’s Chancel Handbell Choir is also growing. In the past year, five new members have joined with the exisng conngent of experienced and highly commied bell-ringers! We now have a full four-octave choir of ringers and look forward to sharing musical offerings in worship throughout the next few months. Youth Choir is preparing to share and serve in Washington, Philadelphia, and New York this summer. This group, which was begun last spring, is now up to twelve members. This is the LAST CALL for middle and high school students to join this choir in me to parcipate in the mission/music project in June. Preschool and Children’s Choirs are acvely engaged in teaching and leading children to use and develop their musical abilies as they learn of God’s love for them through the songs that they sing. Music Makers (grades 1-3) and Young Musicians (grades 4-5) are preparing a new musical, In the Image, to be presented on Sunday, April 14, in morning worship. All boys and girls are invited to join each Wednesday night and on selected Sunday aſternoons. (See the weekly church schedule in the E- News and Family E-News.) Mary and I are honored to serve with you here at TMBC and to be a part of this family of faith. Soli Deo gloria, Andy The Mission Council has received a request from our adopted school, Eastern Elementary, for book bags. Book bags may be placed in the bin by the church office; they may be new or gently used. Volume 44 Issue 2 February 2019

Celebrating Growth in the TMBC Music and Worship Arts Ministries You may have noticed a number of new faces in the Chancel Choir over the past fifteen months. Several newer members as well as some longer-term members of our church have joined with the choir and are contributing their voices and musical abilities in the worship life of TMBC. In the past year, we have welcomed to the choir Sue Morgan, Susan Nelson, Mary Roby, Pat Terry, and Susan Zimmerman to the soprano section; Jim Harris and James Tatton to the bass section; and Russ Gray and Tyler Morgan to the tenor section. I am thrilled to have these folks joining with our long-time choir members who are so faithful and generous in giving time to rehearsals and worship leadership.

You may also have noticed our four Choral Scholars: Bridget Fex and Lauren Walsh in the soprano section and Sarah Holt and Rachel Wilson in the alto section. Initially, these four ECU students assisted with our Christmas cantata in 2017 at the invitation of Dr. Catherine Garner; they also assisted us in 2018 with Maundy Thursday and Easter services. With some individual donations, we were able last fall to invite these students to join us on a regular basis under the title, “TMBC Choral Scholars.” As of 2019, we were able to rearrange some music budget priorities and create an ongoing TMBC Choral Scholars program without increasing the overall music ministry budget. The Choral Scholars program is intended to provide a link between the music ministry and ECU’s outstanding School of Music. We provide the student-scholars with important experiences in serving the church with the goal of helping them to identify a vocational calling into church service (part-time or full-time) when they graduate and begin their professional music careers. Meanwhile, they support our church and help give us a more open and stronger engagement with young adults in our community. It was my privilege to host a similar program at my former church in Shelby, but the program at TMBC was patterned after those hosted by churches in Greenville, including First Presbyterian, Jarvis UMC, St. James UMC, and others which value the connection with ECU and seek to provide a process that benefits both the church and the students. If you have any questions about this program, feel free to get in touch with me ([email protected]).

TMBC’s Chancel Handbell Choir is also growing. In the past year, five new members have joined with the existing contingent of experienced and highly committed bell-ringers! We now have a full four-octave choir of ringers and look forward to sharing musical offerings in worship throughout the next few months.

Youth Choir is preparing to share and serve in Washington, Philadelphia, and New York this summer. This group, which was begun last spring, is now up to twelve members. This is the LAST CALL for middle and high school students to join this choir in time to participate in the mission/music project in June.

Preschool and Children’s Choirs are actively engaged in teaching and leading children to use and develop their musical abilities as they learn of God’s love for them through the songs that they sing. Music Makers (grades 1-3) and Young Musicians (grades 4-5) are preparing a new musical, In the Image, to be presented on Sunday, April 14, in morning worship. All boys and girls are invited to join each Wednesday night and on selected Sunday afternoons. (See the weekly church schedule in the E-News and Family E-News.)

Mary and I are honored to serve with you here at TMBC and to be a part of this family of faith.

Soli Deo gloria, Andy
