BE’YAD

• Must be removed by hand

WHAT IS CONSIDERED YAD• When the utensil does not aid in the selection process, then it is considered yad

• When the utensil aids in the selection process, then it is not considered yad

MI’YAD

• Must be done immediately before time of use

WHAT IS CONSIDERED MIYAD?• Whatever time is needed by an individual to prepare a particular food is considered miyad

• It is permitted to do the Borer activities during the entire course of preparation, even if the selected item will not be used until later in the meal.
