So why was Jesus’ death important?

Christians who are suffering?God’s Self sacrificing love: God showed us what He is like. He willingly accepted all suffering & mockery, out of love for us.
Atonement: Jesus’ sinless sacrifice broke the barrier of sin that separated God and man. Through Jesus’ humanity, we are at-one with God (atonement).
Freedom to live with God: Jesus, as God, freely suffered our rejection of him, and forgave us. God does not hold anything against us. So we are free to live in God’s presence – to have eternal life.
Victory over sin: Jesus’ death on the cross is a victory of obedience to God. Therefore it is a total victory over sin (=which is disobedience of God). His resurrection proves this victory.

Atonement with God
Tearing of the veil in the Temple.
Jesus suffered on our behalf
Jesus’ cry “My God, My God why have your forsaken me?”
Jesus’ freed us - from death, gave us eternal life
“For the Son of Man came..to give his life as a ransom for many”. Mark 10:45
Victory from Sin
By the fact that he was completely obedient to God’s will for him, even unto death.
