Aquamarine is suggested as a gem to give on the 16th and 19th wedding anni- versaries. The aquamarine is a member of the beryl family and ranges in color from an almost colorless pale blue to blue-green or teal. The most prized color is a deep-blue aqua color. The Aqua- marine gets its name from Latin words meaning water and sea. The most valuable aquamarines come from Brazil, but it is also mined in Kenya and Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia. Aquamarines are often heat treated to change a blue-green or teal colored stone to a pure blue. This results in a permanent color change. Aquamarine has been believed to endow the wearer with foresight, courage, and happiness. It is said to increase intelligence and make one youthful. As a healing stone, it is said to be effective as a treatment for anxiety and in the Middle Ages it was thought that aqua- marine would reduce the effect of poisons. A legend says that sailors wore aquama- rine gemstones to keep them safe and prevent sea-sickness.

In the words of Mr. Parker By: Mariah l. and Sherrin Q.

When interviewing our ISS teacher, Mr. Parker, he revealed that Bradley Middle School is the first school he has ever worked in. He came to work at Bradley be-cause he thought it was a good school academically. Mr. Parker has worked here for 5 years, and doesn't plan on retiring any time soon. If he does retire, he would like to be a college professor. Most people would think that it would be difficult to be an ISS teacher. Mr. Parker is very committed in his work so it tends to come with ease. Most experiences Mr. Parker has encountered have been very positive. He has developed programs for kids to be successful to make for the best experiences possible. Mr. Parker has worked with all different kinds of chil-dren. He has the ability to calm kids and teach kids re-spect. When you see Mr. Parker around, you should say thank you because he could do wonders for you here at Bradley, but also for Life!

Ms. Weter Interview

February 8th, 2016 Destynee S. and Sara M.

had the opportunity to interview Ms. Weter, our

school Avid teacher. She is originally from Chica-

go, IL and graduated with her Bachelor's degree in

Science. Ms. Weter decided to become an Avid

teacher because of her inspiration to help stu-

dents and make a difference. She loves to travel

to Illinois to visit family and friends. Prior to work-

ing at Bradley Middle, Ms. Weter was a Language

Arts and Social Studies teacher at Lincoln Middle

and Gregory Middle. She has been working for

Bradley Middle for 9 years as an Avid teacher and

loves the opportunity to take the students on col-

lege field trips. Already she has taken students to

10 colleges. The number of colleges each grade

visits raises as you increase in grades. She

teaches a different curriculum to each grade but

the overall goal for every student is to finish

school and become a successful adult. A few

ways she helps every student try to meet that goal

is by consistently giving TRFs (Tutorial Request

Forms) and by having students take Cornell

Notes. Her advice for upcoming 6th graders

would be to work hard, get involved, and take op-

portunities.

What is the Meaning of the Four Leaf Clover?

By:Jasmine. B

The four leaf clover is a symbol of Saint Patrick's Day and people say it gives you good luck. Well that's probably why they are very unusual to find. It is a real plant because when I was in elementary school my friend found one and decided to keep it for “good luck.” I never heard of someone receiving good luck from a four leaf clover but for me, I didn’t believe they gave you good luck. Instead, I thought they would just get people's hopes up to try to and find one. In my opinion, I think the four leaf has a false meaning and it is basically a regular plant.
