    THANK YOUS

Dear Prayer Shawl Ministry, Thank you for the

prayers for Ronald’s recent surgery. He has done

well. God has given me help too as I have cared for

him and my home responsibilities. Thank you so

much for the card, cross and lap robe stitched by

    Christ, Ronald & Lynn Lewis

Dear St. Mark’s Church, I would just like to start

off by saying I am beyond grateful for all of your

help financially, emotionally & spiritually. I have

always seen St. Mark’s & St. Mark’s church family,

as a second home. I sang in my first choir at St.

Mark’s, my first solo performance, my first time

singing on Christmas Eve & I made many

memories and friends there. I love singing at St.

Mark’s and I cant wait to do it again. Thank you

so much for being kind, welcoming & supportive of

me, as well as believing in my abilities. I love you

all! I hope you stay safe & healthy, and I cant wait

to come back to church. Thank you, Thank you,

    Dear Members and Friends,

On this very warm day, in the middle of November, it is difficult to think about Christmas. How-

ever, when I do focus on Christmas, there is one scripture that always pops into my thoughts -

    Isaiah 9:6-7.

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom,

establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the L456 Almighty

    will accomplish this.

I believe this powerful scripture should NOT be Limited to Advent and Christmas only! Perhaps it is one

which we should read once a month. Take a moment to read through it once more and let this knowledge

soak into our soul. That the government of the en-re universe is si.ng on the shoulders of Jesus, not us.

Nothing happens apart from His sovereign doings and delight. We cannot change very many things on my

own. However, we can change ourselves. I know I need to be reminded my worry does not change any-

thing, Our Lord has it ALL in HIS hands. Even when we cannot see the plan, believe me there is a plan. Je-

sus, the Wonderful Counselor is ruling with the wisdom from God, and that is why He is the Wonderful

Counselor! The Mighty God also describes that He is one with God, the Father. He is coequal, along with

the Holy Spirit. There is nothing He cannot do! He never “Tries” to do anything, He simply executes His

pleasure, at His discre-on. The Everlasng Father who perfectly reveals the Father image and riches to us.

The Prince of Peace, who by His life and death, made peace between God and us possible. Let us join to-

gether, and extend the glorious kingdom of peace on the earth. Peace on earth and good will towards

mankind. Merry Christmas from Linda and Me.

    Peace,

    Pastor Ed

    United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women of St. Mark’s is comprised of 4 Circles that meet monthly at

various times and places. During this crazy year of 2020 the leaders have kept in touch with

their circle members by emails and phone calls as there has been no meetings.

We have continued with many activities that enabled us to earn our Gold Star standing for

another year. We had 3 circle members complete Plan 1 of the Reading Program. There were

two members that attended the virtual Spiritual Growth Retreat in September. Many

members have been dedicated in sending Pat Jones their Pledge to Missions and Prayer and

Self-Denial giving's, two of the three offerings that all UMW members are asked to participate

in each year. World Thank Offering is collected in November. Ladies, please send Pat Jones

your World Thank Offering. We have also chose our recipients for the Gift to Missions award

and Special Mission Recognition but that is a secret until we decide when to present them.

I would also like to mention a very dedicated circle member, Jane Sullivan. Jane lets each

circle know what is needed for the St. Mark’s Village Pantry each month and each circle

collects these items for the pantry. Since the circles are not meeting Jane is personally

supplying the items. Thankfully many have stepped up to help Jane with financial donations

for this endeavor. Thank you Jane and all others that have helped out thus far but there is

still an opportunity to help Jane and the recipients of this pantry.

On November 21 there will be a virtual Peninsula-Delaware Conference annual meeting.

Ladies I hope we have many in attendance for this meeting.

    Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Brinsfield, President St. Mark’s UMW

    TRASH IS MONEY!

We have 28 pounds of aluminum soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. They will be sold and the money used to purchase gas for their vehicles

which transport parents and children from Ronald McDonald House to several dif-

ferent hospitals in the area. This is a wonderful use of something that many peo-

ple throw away. Keep collecting and bringing them to church.

Baskets for St. Mark’s Village Residents

We will be delivering holiday baskets to residents of St. Mark’s Village, 25

Thanksgiving and 25 for Christmas. The food has been provided through

your generous giving to the “Virus Fund”. The baskets will be delivered Sat-

urday, November 21 for Thanksgiving and Saturday, December 19th for

Christmas. As members of St. Mark’s this mission is another way that we can

be the hands and feet of Jesus.

    Thank you for your giving!

    Presentation of the Bibles

Each year, we recognize the Sunday School students who completed the Learning to Use My

Bible curriculum taught during our 3rd & 4th grade class. During this study, Sunday School

teachers Lee Royer, Helen Pritchett and Della Andrews lead their students in understanding

how to study the words and different sections of the bible through various stories, puzzles and

    activities.

“We rejoice in the step in your journey with God.

We pray God will guide you, your family and us

As you use the Holy Bible in your home,

In your church school classes, and in our worship.”

Please join us in recognizing the following students who received their Bibles this year with

their hands, hearts and minds. This year’s recipients were: Grant Higginbottom, Wyatt

Blessing, Rachel Claire Smith (photo unavailable), Lilly Swann, Mary Clarie Callahan, Wyatt

Coursey, Karah Brice (photo unavailable), and Kylie Chadwick.

Worship Notes 9:am in the Sanctuary and Facebook Live

(Also available on our website after 10 am on Sundays)

    A reflection...

I love the changing of the seasons and I feel blessed to live somewhere that experiences all four. I love the reminders that change is ongoing, never held back by what may have occurred in the previous sea-son. Our weekly worship reflects this same idea. We come into the presence of God, seeking him, that

we may offer thanks and praise for the glorious world we live in. Regardless of what the week has held for us ,we encounter a God that reminds us that while everything around may be changing, God is

steadfast and sure. Worship opens our hearts that we may draw nearer to a God that desires to be in relationship with us and gives us the gift of the holy spirit to rely on to strengthen us, to embolden us, and to lead us. We are preparing to change season in the church as well, as we get ready for our new

year with the beginning of Advent. Advent is a season where we prepare our hearts and our lives for the coming of Jesus. We prepare for his arrival in a few weeks at Christmas as well as his promised coming again. It is a season for our hearts to be turned to expectant waiting, a waiting with purpose and mean-

ing. We have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, and open our heart to worship and seek him anew, as a child and as our savior.

    Can you help with worship?

As Advent and Christmas approach we are still in need of folks to help with some worship needs on Sunday mornings and our three Christmas Eve services. Along with Ushers and greeters, we need a few families to participate with our weekly advent wreath reading and lighting. If you are interested in being

a part of worship please give us a call or email at church!

    Keep a watchful eye out...

for Carols! This advent season, in addition to the online advent devotions and our weekly candle read-ings, we will also be featuring a number of musical offerings that we hope will add meaning to this sea-

son. There will be a variety of carols that we will feature to bring added light into a darkened world. We hope you will enjoy and share them freely as part of our outreach here at St. Mark’s.

    Other things to look for…

The pandemic has significantly change the arts community throughout our country, and our own con-cert series has been paused as well. Organizations have instead created other ways to make and share

these invaluable gifts that are meant to touch and move our spirits. Amidst the varied offerings throughout the season here are two that have connections to our church that we want to bring to your

    attention.

Once again this year, our Youth Group will be selling ceramic Christmas Ornaments as a fundraiser to help cover the costs of Youth Group activities for the upcoming year.

This year’s image is “You Clothed Me”. It is the third image from the Christian Service Stained Glass Window located in our Chapel.

The price for each individual ornament is $15 .

We still have a few of the first two years available. Our ornaments make great gifts to give out any year because they do not have the date printed on them. The ornaments will only

be available in the Gathering Area on Sunday mornings during the Advent season.

At this time, St. Mark’s Preschool is still closed due to COVID

concerns. I will be giving a final presentation to the Administra-

tive Board on Thursday, November 12 regarding opening in Jan-

uary. I have looked at a variety to opening options and will pre-

sent those options in hopes of trying to get some preschool learn-

ing in this school year. Christ Church Day School and The Mini-

Master’s Program at the Academy of the Arts, both of which have

programs similar to ours, have decided to remain closed for this

year school year. The Presbyterian Preschool, which also has a

program similar to ours, opened last week. The Country School and Saints Peter and Paul

opened their programs (which include preschool) in September. The local public schools

have their preschoolers attending two days a week at this time. I ask that your keep our

Administrative Board in your prayers as they decide the best course of action for our pre-

school program. Thank you to all who have given to the Shepherd’s Club this year. Your

generosity is so appreciated. We can’t wait to get back to school and put those funds to good
