The March 2016 Newsletter for First UMC Family and Friends
First United Methodist Messenger Rockingham, NC
A Message from Rev. Allison Farrah
Mark your calendars! The 2nd Annual Hoofing It for Haiti 5K will be Saturday, March 19,
2016 at 8:00 am at the Mary Ellen Kindley Fitness Trail on the campus of RCC.
The .purpose of this meaningful event is to raise money to purchase rice, beans, and oil for the
people of Haiti. We will purchase, bag, and deliver this food while on mission there in July.
Whether you choose to walk, run, volunteer, or serve as a sponsor, there is a place for you.
Check out the bulletin board just outside of the choir room You will see all the sights of last
year’s big event and will be excited to get involved. 100% of each $25 ($30 after March 11)
entry fee will purchase a bag of rice, beans, and oil for Haiti. In other words, each
person who registers for the 5K will feed a family in Haiti for a month! The best part of
participating in the 5K is knowing that each step a participant runs or walks will provide nourish-
ment to a body and soul in Haiti. The 5K is also a great way to connect with churches, organiza-
tions, families, and individuals within our community.
We celebrated 225 registered runners and walkers and 60 sponsors at last year’s event. As a
result of the 5K and the other projects of our church, we were able to deliver 21,372 pounds of
rice, beans, and oil to precious Haitian children and adults who were literally without food for
their next meal. We look forward to what God will continue to do through our Haiti project in
2016.
We covet your prayers as we plan and prepare for this event. Entry forms and sponsorship
forms are located in the entrance areas of the church. You may also find online registration
information on our church website or on the 2nd Annual Hoofing It for Haiti Facebook page.
We look forward to seeing you on March 19th! Together we can share God’s love around the
world!

You!
The Youth would like to thank all of
you for supporting them at the Spa-

We could not have done this without
everyone’s help by sending/bringing in
items, inviting friends and family, help-
ing with decorations, cooking, serving,
singing, cleaning up, joining us for
dinner, praying for us, and more.
A special thanks to those who
provided us with wonderful entertain-
ment: John Patrick and Alex
Hutchinson, Brianna and Abigail Ham-
ilton, the Youth Choir, Sherry Boyette
and the Children’s Choir, and to Lee
Griffith for being the MC and entertain-
ment.
Everyone enjoyed the evening and it
was a fun night for all!

These funds will be used throughout 2016 to allow UMW to continue funding programs/projects that we have supported in the past. Another opportunity to enjoy food and fellowship and have a fun luncheon with friends is March 13 when the UMW will be hosting a Chili Luncheon. We will have lots of crockpots of chili along with all the toppings AND homemade desserts! Please join us on Sunday, March 31 immediately fol-lowing Worship Service in the Fellowship Hall. We will be accepting donations. Your UMW looks forward to providing you an opportunity to enjoy another delicious lunch and a time for fellowship. As always, thank you for your support!

Servers for March
Dear friends in Christ: On behalf of the congregation of East Rockingham UMC, we would like to express our warmest, heartfelt appreciation to all who par-ticipated in the Community Thanksgiving Meal which was held on November 21, 2015. To all the Churches, businesses and individuals who helped in any way, we are truly thankful for whatever part you played in mak-ing this occasion such a great success. We could never have been able to carry out this huge undertaking without the help of so many people. When we started this event five years, we fed approximately seventy-five people, mostly senior citizens and one student from one of the surrounding schools who came and brought his Grandfather. We were truly touched by the show of appre-ciation from those attending and we were blessed beyond ex-pression We have doubled the number of persons fed each year since that first year and our blessings have also doubled. This past year, 2015, we were able to feed approximately 1,060 people with over 600 of those being shut ins and home-bound members of the community. A huge thank you to all of you who came and delivered plates for us. We are so thankful for all of the Churches, businesses and individuals who have jumped in and carried us through this growth. Each one of you are a blessing and a God-send to us. God has truly showed his hand in this so greatly by always providing the funding and the help that we needed to carry out this project. We pray that God continues to help us provide this meal to those in need, whether that need is for food or for the blessing of having someone to share the meal with. May God bless each and every one of you and thank you again for any part that you played in assisting us. Sincerely, The Community Thanksgiving Meal Committee East Rockingham United Methodist Church
